Called them to come out and look at 1st floor ac unit that was not cooling like it should. Notice the 1st floor of my home was only cooling to 76, while the 2nd floor was cooling to 74, even though it was 90 + outside it should still cool at least 20 degrees, Called Casey Services HVA, asked receptionist how much it would cost for them to come out and look at the system to tell me where the problem was. She said it would be $89 to come out and run diagnostic on it. Ok, that sounds fair, they are a local business. Service worker comes out in ripped pants, hooks up gauges to unit, says it's low on coolant. Coolant is $100 for 1st pound and 90 or 95 after that. Asked how much coolant it would take, probably 10 or 11 pounds. Let me also say, it was blowing cool air, but not enough to cool my house 20degrees. basically I could spend a 1K to fix nothing, How much is it to fix the problem. He said he could put nitrogen in it to find the leak, but then I could not use my air conditioning. Can't you find the leak without making my system unusable so that I am not without air if we need to order parts, since it is most likely the evaporator coil? He goes to the truck and I go inside just to check to see if the 90-100 per pound price is reasonable, next thing I know, he has some kind of sensor thing for detecting leaks and is telling me the evaporator coil is bad, Ok! I need an estimate and time frame on replacing it. estimate is just over $1,600. Ok then he show me the bill, - $89 diagnostic, $89 leak test and $71 to add NITROGEN pressure test ($89 Diagnostic, costs me $249 and leave my unit unusable while waiting to replace evaporator coil), Decided if the estimate works like the diagnostic charge, who knows how much I'll end up being charged. Ok, so I come inside after paying they guy, MY AC is set to run, so AC unit is on, not just the fan, and nitrogen is running through my system, which I was told not to do, Maybe he needed to do it for a test, but he should have set it back or told me. So I did call another company for a second opinion, They come out, said my system is overcharged now, run a leak test and say I need a new evaporator coil as expected.
The second company that came out, not Casey, charged me $79 for diagnostic which included diagnosing and leak test and finding the problem. Gives me a quote which is a little more, but they stuck to their word on the diagnostic, So the other Company has me on the schedule, but in the mean time, NO AC on my 1st floor because my system now has nitrogen in it..
"Upon reviewing the listing from [member name removed] and pulling a copy of the invoice from his service call the following statement is written on the invoice: “Found system low on R22, almost empty. Tried finding leak and found nothing with leak detector. Added nitrogen to build pressure in system. Rechecked for leak. Found evap. coil leaking under house. Left nitrogen on system per customer. If repair made release nitrogen before moving forward.” As an additional note, [member name removed] signed the invoice in two places 1) authorizing repairs and agreeing to provide payment upon completion 2) agreeing to our warranty terms. We responded to [member name removed] “first floor system not cooling” call and he was correct, his system was low on R22. [member name removed] authorized a leak search and nitrogen test to determine the cost to “fix the problem” in lieu of adding freon as a temporary repair. Per the notes on the invoice [member name removed] signed, the nitrogen was left in his system and rendering it inoperable. In reference to the findings from the company [member name removed] requested a second opinion from, the system gave a high pressure reading because the system was filled with nitrogen. Since the system was filled with nitrogen, the second company would not have needed to perform the same tests our technician performed in order to find the leak, which explains why they only charged for a $79 diagnostic. At the time of the service call, [member name removed] did not indicate to the Service Technician or communicate to our office he was dissatisfied with the services he received. We take pride in providing up front pricing, repairs, and system replacements at a fair price."
We have been without HVAC since mid February because of a lightning strike. At first we didn't realize that it was something that was covered by insurance so we beat around the bush a little. We found someone......long story short. When he realized he had ordered the wrong size units, I think he just bailed on us. Casey services came out the same day the other guy bailed. From the time our insurance said okay to their quote (which was only a couple of hundred dollars more than the other guy who was going to give us smaller units), it was a week to getting them in and started up! Contracts signed, materials ordered, and installed! The tech guy was here tonight (Friday) from 5:00 to 6:00 to make sure we had air over the weekend.
Two 14 Seer units! I am loving how my house is cooling down!!!
problematic. Casey quoted a fair price, installed the new equipment as
promised and were extremely professional. We've been using them for 10
years and we've always been completely satisfied.
I did not have a checklist of the specific services included in the service agreement but I did notice that the technician did not blow out the condensate drains and did not clean any coils (indoor or outdoor). I don't know if these are considered routine actions in this area but HVAC folks in FL always blew out the drains and usually cleaned the coils.
Overall, I think they did a good job at a fair price.
