It started out well. They seemed very nice and were eager to start job. We had high hopes for this family company. They were between 20%-40% lower than 2 other bids we received and we liked the idea of supporting a smaller company. Important to note: and quot;Concrete Designsand quot; has good reviews, but this family company using that name is not great in any way.
The initial demolition went well in mid-June 2014. We were told that everything would be done by July 1st (with the exception of sealing the patio.) They were very nice, professional, and arrived at job site when they were suppose to (for the most part.)
The job was never finished and was at 98%ish completion in early September. Our entire backyard and side yard were torn up and unusable for the entire summer even though we were assured repeatedly it would be finished by July 1 (with the exception of sealing the patio which would need to be done 3 weeks later.)
They have been contacted numerous times about finishing a few other small issues with the job, we have never been called or e-mailed back to do this.
This company is a family owned company operated by a man named and quot;Willie.and quot; His son and daughter in law are also a part of the company as well as various friends. He is using and quot;Concrete Designsand quot; company's name and their reviews. Do not ever use them!!! Willie is a jerk. He yelled at my husband for asking his son a question and he lies to your face. He was supposedly sick and in the hospital, but they never told us until after we called and e-mailed repeatedly for over a week straight.
He blamed the weather every single day on why they couldn't do the work. There were many days that the weather was good enough for concrete pouring.Yes it rained a lot this summer, but absolutely zero work was done and no communication until we hounded them for what was going on.
They have horrible customer service. They do not call or e-mail back. They make the job site very messy and do not clean up after themselves. They frequently left water bottles, tools, and what not all over my yard. They got concrete splotches on our back screen door and in other areas of our yard. We had to fix this ourselves. Including digging out a very large of concrete in our side yard with a pick axe.
They spent a lot of time talking to one another and having other family members visit them while working. This was largely younger girls visiting their husbands/ boyfriends. The son's girlfriend (who is also the secretary of sorts) frequently stopped by and talked to her husband (he was the primary worker on the job.)
They did not come to the job site at times promised or days promised (many, many, many times.)
They got behind on our job and then rushed it doing semi-passable work. Then they wanted us to be overly grateful that they finished.
Our stained patio has uneven stain, their are ugly grooves in our stamped patio that we were told could be fixed. A few areas don't even have stain
They pulled a permit for our job, but we never received it. We now do not have a finalized permit for our pergola unless we want to pay for it all again. The only saving grace to this, is that since they pulled the initial permit they are legally responsible if anything goes wrong with the pergola in the future. We had to meet with the city and make sure we were not going to be penalized for their negligence..
We have contacted them numerous times about finishing job and are receiving no response.
Never, ever, ever use them.
I think this family is a subcontractor for and quot;Concrete Designs.and quot; They work out of the Wake Forest area and are just horrible. Never use them, tell your friends and neighbors not to use them. You are better off paying 20% more and using someone else.

They did a very nice job, and we extremely professional. There was a challenge bringing in the adequate heavy duty equipment upon discovering that my driveway (concrete) was 12and quot; thick in some areas (were expecting 4and quot; and no deeper than 6and quot;) and this slowed the project down considerably. But Willie and friends were diligent and followed through, doing a terrific job. I would definitely hire them again.

Willie was very professional in all of his work, he did not object to all of my questions. I would highly recommend him.

Willie and his team did great. As with many things with this house, a few surprises included the old concrete that was not the expected 4and quot; thick, but 10-12and quot; thick in many places...Willie and his team persisted in removing the old concrete, and the new concrete driveway looks excellent. Would definitely hire again - good work done by good people (which counts in my book).
