"I am sorry this customer was dissatisfied with my service. I never did give a final "Quote", only an estimate of what the job MAY cost. Perhaps he misunderstood what was going to be replaced. In my estimate I wrote a "Chase Cover", he mentions a "chimney cap"; these at two different things. I will not bother sending a real quote now since he has made up his mind not to hire us, but after looking up the size chase cover he would need at the cheapest website I could find, just for the Chase Cover it would cost $422 for Stainless Steel and $752 for copper. The link for that website is [Hyperlink Removed] The numbers entered were: Length: 66" Width: 34" Overall Size: Finished Size Side Skirt: 4" Drip Edge: Yes Powder Coat: No # of Holes: 1 I thought it may cost around $600 when I gave the ESTIMATE, but I was off by a bit, which would have been corrected in any Quote that I would have given. Adding the rental costs of a lift which would be needed to install that size chase cover, plus labor and cap repair, my estimate was quite fair. I am not sure what Angie's list "pricing guide" the customer used, but perhaps he was just looking at a chimney cap replacement, not a full Chase Cover. As for the service call charges as well as any estimates given; I am a Certified Chimney Professional. There are NO certified sweeps who charge nothing to come to a house to do an inspection. Even though the customer said that the service call was to "strictly trying to repair a cosmetic thing", he understood that there would be an inspection charge before I came as an inspection of the appliance and chimney is always done so the customer is aware of any safety issues there may be with their appliance and chimney. If the customer wanted to just take care of a cosmetic thing, then perhaps a roofer or handyman would have been a better choice to hire; they do not need to know the workings of a fireplace and or chimney and can charge much less because they are not certified to work on chimneys. A Certified Chimney Professional is a specialist in his field and commands a higher price than just a layman or a guy who does chimneys on the side. Beware of things that come cheaply, they may end up costing much more in the end. As for the "No Call/No Show", It was raining the day of the scheduled inspection, I called to postpone, but I had the wrong phone number written down, so I got "phone disconnected or not in service" message. Apparently we did mess up with that, but I greatly apologized for that mishap. That rarely happens, but on occasion, it does. Again, I am sorry. Before posting such a bad review, I would think the customer would call to talk over his disappointments with any service company. Many things can be explained and misunderstandings can be cleared with communication. If after customer and service company talk and there is still dissatisfaction on the customer's part, then a fair review can be made. Again, I am very sorry this customer was dissatisfied with my services. I hope he reads my reply and rethinks his opinion of us to at least understand the reasons for higher pricing and the procedures of a Certified Chimney Professional. Bless You for taking the time to read my reply. Alan Hart President Hart's Hearth Inc."
Alan Hart is an all around professional. He was thorough and fast in his work. The price for his work was much more reasonable than the other quote I received from a Greenville, NC roofing business of $500 to cap our chimney (without water damage preventer treatment). As part of his service, he provided a complete chimney service report. I recommend him to anyone who needs work done on a chimney or fireplace.
