We have two pet doors installed for our three dogs in the basement and out to the backyard. Because we have to keep the stairway to the basement open for their access, we have had to keep the door to the stairwell open and the light in the stairwell and basement on 24/7. In order to cut down on the amount of electricity, I decided to install in a motion sensor switch. I tried to install in the switch myself, but quickly gave up when I realized I had no real idea how to do it. I called Kevin O'Neill whom I had never met before. We agreed to an appointment on Wednesday evening at 4:30 p.m. He showed up at 4:28, which was great. He quoted me an estimate for $65.00 for the enitire job (installing the switch and the outdoor lights). I agreed that was more than fair. When he went to install the switch, he found that the circuit was not getting any power. It took him over two hours to isolate the problem due to the wiring for the basement having been poorly installed by the previous owners. He also found where the old wiring to the light in the basement (different from the switch), was frayed and likely to cause a fire. Kevin worked through some tough issues with humor, politeness, tenacity and professionalism. To be honest, I would have thrown up my hands and given up. Instead, he worked until the job was done correctly. Unfortunately for us, the job has turned into something a little bit bigger, because now he has to replace the light until downstairs as well. That's just the nature of home ownership, I'm afraid. But I was delighted to find that Kevin didn't overcharge me and he will be back on Saturday to finish the job. I HIGHLY recommend his work and attitude. We will continue to use him for future projects as well.
