Surgery was successful and the tumor turned out benign. The site became infected and repeated visits were necessary before the wound healed. The infection was not their fault and we were seen immediately whenever necessary. The veterinarians made common sense suggestions as well as recommending some newer wound care treatments. I was very pleased with the veterinarian care received. That said...there were issues. First, it was very expensive. Second, when visiting a vet for routine care we're usually ushered to a treatment room. The dog is only taken away for things like invasive procedures. Here, my dog was removed immediately-leaving me in the waiting room. When I requested to see the Vet, together with my dog, in a treatment room, the tech said... "but I'll have to go set up a room". After insisting, we were given a room. Two techs then came in and forcefully wrestled my dog flat to the floor for a nail trim. In 9 yrs with this dog (and 15 yrs with the one before) that has never been necessary. I'll condone the use of a muzzle to makes someone feel safer, but never this kind of force. I'll add that the only problem the one tech had at the next nail trim (elsewhere of course) was trying to avoid the wagging tail while trimming the back feet. I liked the Vets and received very good care from them but will not return due to the techs behavior.

The veterinarian,Dr. Potter, and the technician(a new one,of whom I don't remember her name)were very gentle, caring, professional with my cat and personable and detailed in talking with me.I have taken my dog and three cats to this animal hospital for thirteen years, since 2000,and the entire clinic staff have always been very professional and caring, especially when my older cat died there in 2010 from her kidney failure.

I recommend this vet to anyone in the Sylva area who loves cats.

The staff was very thorough on the phone, explaining the costs of the spay procedure for the two strays (with discounts provided by local friends of animals) and pre-test for feline leukemia as well as the recommended follow-up pain medication, required rabies and distemper shots, and minimal extra charge if the cats were already pregnant. The staff and vet were friendly and professional when I took the cats to the office, invited me to check on the cats' status by phone, kept the animals overnight after their operations and returned them to me the next day, as promised. The office provided rabies tags and a written report on everything that was done.

I have used this vet before for my own cats and appreciate their obvious care and concern, whether the animals are there for treatment of an illness or for regular checkups. They were especially compassionate when I had to put an older cat down several years ago.
