elaborate on my reasoning. I had a fairly significant renovation project done
by the company. I was fortunate to be able to be on site for the entire four
weeks of the work. First, Roger has his own
crews thus he does not rely on sub-contractor who are more difficult to
control. Second, his crews have been with the company for years (some over 10
years) and fully understand the work to be performed. Because, he has multiple
crews, the members of each crews can specialize in areas of their expertise.
The crew chiefs carefully direct every step of their particular process. As a
side issue, he provides an extensive benefit package to his employees-
insurance and retirement. This is not normal, certainly not with a company that
uses sub-contractors; this builds a dedication to the work and the company. His
crew chiefs, some who have received national recognition for their skills (thru
national competitions) take a personal ownership in the job. They look for the
small (and large) ways to do the job correctly. They take quality steps that
get covered by the finished work, but insure the job is done correctly. Let me
give a few examples, when installing copper shielding (a very expensive but
necessary material that can easily be overlooked with a cheaper substitute)
each fold and seam were carefully bent (using the proper tool) including
envelop folds to insure no sharp edges would be exposed. This is a small item,
but when a child cuts their hand on a sharp copper edge, someone is not going
to be happy. Another example, was the
nails, rather than the traditional galvanized nail, the crew used all stainless
steel (and a good quality stainless steel as well) for exterior work. Turning
to the craftsmanship, the crew that install the exterior window trim could pass
for cabinet makers with their carefully mitered joints and fittings. The
interior trim people exhibited similar skill ? carefully fitting each piece (we
had many windows, high, low, curved and traditional).
Enough on the quality, it was definitely there at each
step. Turning to the cost, Roger?s
estimate was reasonable and each change was priced in the same manner. There
were no surprises, each items was estimated and came in at or below the estimate.
When we ran into additional work, the crew coordinated with me (I was on the
site) and with Roger (cell phones are well worth the cost) to insure the work
was done correctly and reasonably.
I can list numerous other small quality steps, that made the
job a pleasure to see unfold, but let me close by stating that I fully
recommend this firm for your construction needs. I will certainly call Roger
for any of my future work requirements.
