We recently purchased a house and within about 2 months the nice hardwood floor buckled when the weather turned cold. We were told by the former homeowners that the floor was installed by Ezzell Flooring in Stedman. We called Ezzell to ask that they come to repair the floor. It took several phone calls to get a reply, and when we did get a reply they made an appointment for the following week rather than quickly sending someone to address the issue. When they arrived, they did nothing to repair the floor. They walked on the raised boards trying to press them down. This cause damage to the boards which we had to pay to have repaired by another company. They also did not identify the problem and tried to convince us that the floor got wet and caused the problem. They suggested that maybe a pipe was leaking under the house or the moisture barrier needed replaced. Furthermore, they knocked a taxidermy deer mount off our wall, pulling out the drywall anchor and left without offering to repair the wall. So I was now left with a buckled floor and a wall to patch,but no solution. We had the crawlspace inspected by a professional company to inspect for damage. The underside to the floor was immaculate and dry. There was no moisture problem. The problem clearly was the installation of the floor. This company suggested that the floor was installed without the proper gap to allow the walls to expand and contract. We called another flooring company, who promptly came to the house and repaired the floor. They found that the floor was installed much too tight and when the weather changed and the walls expanded it pushed the boards up. They pointed out several shortcuts that were taken in the installation of the floor, to include not nailing the wood boards down properly and apparently tacking a row of boards down from the top where the floor appeared to have raised before in the past. They trimmed the edges of the floor and nailed down the boards down properly. They had to replace the boards that the Ezzell company walked up and down, because the trim tabs were broken. The job cost $490 and 3/4 of the boards had to be pulled up and re-installed. If you need hardwood flooring installed, we would not recommend this company. It could cost you in future repairs. We certainly would not recommend this company to a neighbor or friend.
