Sandhills Heating & A/C salesperson (Mike) came to the house and presented choices of systems to replace our 19yr old Carrier heatpump. He was very knowledgeable, and spent time in the crawlspace to inspect and map out how the work would be done. He explained the process and what would happen the day of the work as well as follow up afterwards. We chose the Trane XR15, and Sandhills' price was about where we expected based on what we researched. As bonus, Trane and our electric utility had rebates which made the overall deal even better. Sandhills' price was all inclusive (no add-ons like condenser pad, thermostat, etc)- no surprises. We have been using Sandhills for our service maintenance for 15 years and were very pleased with the overall result and value. Install was very clean, all debris cleaned up like they were never there, and professional to the end. Mike later came by with the warranty paperwork they had filled out for us and submitted to Trane, as well copy of the rebates applied for on our behalf. We recommend Sandhills for your service and/or equipment replacement.

The service technician was on site for less that 5 minutes when the pronounced that my system was out of Freon and would need to be recharged. Less than 5 minutes later I was told that I had and quot; a significant leak somewhere within the systemand quot; that was going to be hard to repair. When I went outside to talk with the technician he mentioned to me that the unit and quot;was 12 years old and might not last that much longerand quot;.

I then told the repairman that I had no trouble getting air conditioning which made his diagnosis a bit lacking. After standing next to him while he was diagnosing the problem he then proceeded to check the refrigerant pressures and found that I was correct. The system did not need Freon.

After another 5 minutes he found the correct issue, a bad TXV valve. His estimate to repair the valve was in excess of $1700.

The next day I called a local competitor (Carolina Air) and had them come out. They found the bad TXV valve in minutes and DID NOT suggest I buy a whole new heating unit. They quoted me $1200 and did the job perfectly.

I've been using Sandhills for 12 years but will never use them again.

They didn't clean the coils when they came here so they came back and when they did they told us that we had a leak upstairs in the evaporator unit. They claimed that they put some refrigerant in and then they left at about five in the evening. Well it never worked for the whole night so the next morning we called them but they never did fix it and we ended up having to file a complaint on BBB. The bottom line is the unit was working when they got there, it was cooling and it has not been since they left. So I feel gouged. They had a deal to clean the coils for $75 and then when they filled the refrigerant they charged for that, then the other guy came back two days later and charged again saying that the line was burst. How could it cool before they got there if the line had burst? Even if they called me and told me they would put one in for free, I would not let them.

I knew my heat pump was on its last legs and when it failed I called and the service person came the same day. The compressor had failed. They replaced the complete unit and the thermostat. The thermostat was hard for us to use so they replaced it with one that was easier for us to see and understand. We are very happy with the results.

We are pleased with them. We pay $120 a year and they come twice a year. They are prompt and clean. They call half an hour before they come. They are efficient and they know what they are doing. They do the tune up and get out.

They were great. It was the middle of the summer when they came out and I was 8 months pregnant. They came out in the middle of the night to fix whatever was wrong with it. They worked with us on the payment. They were very good. It was pretty expensive but we haven't had any issues with it since so it was worth the money. They were very fast coming out. We would absolutely use them again.

They have serviced my home heating and air conditioning system three years in a row in the spring, two of which they pro-actively called to set up an appointment, which was good. They charged a standard service charge, showed up on time, performed the service thoroughly, explained the final report reasonably well, answered my questions, and cleaned up after themselves. In replacing the failed compressor they declined to call the manufacturer to check on warranty status as they were not the original installer, and wrote an estimate for replacement using the full retail price for the part. I arranged for the local supply shop to give them a replacement compressor at no charge, thanks to the manufacturer's helpful customer service (Goodman Mfg. Co.). Sandhills performed the replacement flawlessly and at standard hourly billing rates, which seem a bit high (although I have not surveyed other local service companies to compare).
