They are a great company. We have bene customers with them for about 20-30 years. We have a service contract with them and they come out twice a year. Their prices are reasonable. The technicians are excellent and they are very personable and friendly people. They are pretty prompt and you don’t have to wait very long.

"Thank you for your kind words! We enjoy having you as a loyal customer."

Whatever they did worked, and we have not had to call them back. They were able to fix it in one visit. The price was not shockingly expensive. We would call them again and they got the job done within 2 hours. The scheduling was pretty easy and straight forward.

I had an ongoing problem that was never resolved. After trying someone else, I called Hines. They were prompt and professional. The guy tried a few different things and then found the problem. It's been running great ever since! He replaced a part and did some rewiring.

Mike Hines and his people worked on our HVAC system in our home for years. We decided to have them install a new HVAC system for the downstairs of our home. We were remodeling the kitchen, the middle level of our home.
First we had Mike come in and install a new American Standard AC $3995.00
Next I started to remodel the middle level of my home. As we started exploring and getting prices from sub contractors we found out my crawlspace was air conditioned! Well none of Mike's people told me that there was loose duct work and that the duct work really should be replaced. It was in bad shape. You would have thought they would have mentioned that, tested that, or noticed when they installed the AC unit.
Next for another $2,450.00 they replaced the flex duct sealed all of it and everything but the box on the back of the unit and the concrete pipe duct under the slab on grade section of the home. Then when I was working in the crawlspace I noticed one of his people ran a duct over top of the girder. There was not way to get insulation in there. They had to come back and reinstall the duct under the girder so we could insulate. Crawlspace air going into our home. The crawlspace where they replaced the duct is about 750 sg ft. The original quote was lower on the duct work. It came up a couple of hundred dollars. No big deal it happens. I knew something went up and we paid it from the original. This happens.
There were a few other things and one with the building dept. but nothing too bad. Next they had to install the gas line to our new gas convection oven range. They had to come back and disconnect it and move it. Then when we went to do the final install on the range if I remember right it was not the right fitting for our stove. That is not their fault. The problem was the Hines installer did not want to put a drip leg on the gas line. I made him put one on the line behind the stove. That stove has the potential to use 87,000 btu. No drip leg is required until the unit uses over 100,000 btu by code. But I wanted it on there. This is a good practice. The gas line work was all time and material. Glad they did not charge me for the drip leg according to them. Thank you.
So here is what finished me off. The next year the end of September or beginning of October 2013 Our unit freezes up. The A coil ices up. This unit is just barely over a year old and it is a 10 year warranty unit. I wanted a good unit. I call Hines and they send a tech out. He calls me back and tells me a valve was malfunctioning in the unit and it would be a over $900.00 repair. The pressure was not right in the unit. I was furious this is a new unit and it is a American standard 10 year unit! What! I immediately told them to not work on it. I wanted a second opinion. This was a first for me that a unit would fail so quickly. It can happen but?
So I called american standard wasting my time and they said they would provide the parts and some of the labor.
Next I searched the internet and I called a NATE and American Standard factory certified HVAC contractor from Wilson B&J plumbing and HVAC. He came to my home on 10-15-13 He checked the pressure and the pressure was fine on the unit. He also said the unit is ok. He told me that their tech had to let all the ice melt off the a coil for pressure to go back to normal.
The problem was sort of my fault I had been working out of town so I was not home and the wife did not change the air filters.
New air filters and the ac is running like a champ this year. Been a year later and no problems. Over two years on the unit. This did not cost $900.00 plus as they told me. Glad I stopped them. The price dropped from $900.00 plus when American standard said they would send the part for free. My move to stop them saved me a lot of money and a repair that was not necessary.
To respond to hines. The filters were not clogged with construction dirt a year later. They where changed twice since the install. I also changed them before they got there.
I can't remember if Hines still charged me a service fee or not?????? I do not have a receipt on that. I will have to check that. It has been a year. I saw his advertising in the angie's list book this month. I do not know if things have changed but this is my experience. They have been at this business a long time. I have hired many HVAC contractors in my life for projects in two states.
All is working well now, but this is what I went through. The system is tight and running well at this time.

Response from Hines Heating and Air Conditioning
"This is my second response to the customer’s revised review. I am sorry he feels this way. We did everything he requested at the quoted price. All the work passed inspection. The comments about his duct work were not made by an HVAC contractor. Everyone has opinions. We don’t try to sell things that people don’t need. For the service call - our technician went out and found the filters clogged with construction dirt. He removed them. We felt there was an issue with the expansion valve and quoted him a price if it should need to be replaced. He did not “stop” us from anything because we don’t do work unless it is authorized by the customer. He sought a second opinion which is fine, although I am not sure how the other tech knew what our tech did or didn’t do since he wasn’t there. I tried to discuss this with him but he chose to yell and swear at me. I told him to call back when he calmed down. He did apologize. We did not charge him for the service call. I am glad his unit is working correctly. I feel this should adequately address his issues with our company and consider this matter resolved. There will be no further response should his review change again. Thanks! Susan Wise Hines Heating and Air Conditioning 919-934-9359"

Susan and Hines Heating made the trip to Fuquay Varina for the repairs, were prompt and reasonably priced. I would highly recommend them to others.
