It went well overall, even if a little more drawn out than we would have liked. Some of the sub-contractors rescheduled repeatedly, but the job was ultimately finished by the end date on the contract. When we had questions Doug, the owner/contractor, was responsive. The workers that he brought in were courteous. The end result is a great play room, living space, and workshop.

His contract was all about money and didn't break down what work would be done. I asked him to make an itemized list and he showed me one, but wouldn't let me keep it. He overcharged me for all of the materials, and there were some instances where he made mistakes, and instead of redoing the work to make it right, he just patched it up. Some of the boards are warping, so he obviously didn't install everything correctly. He was supposed to install new rafters in an outbuilding. In order to get the beams in, he had to cut down all of the lights, and he never replaced them. I actually had to rewire the lights myself. He took home all the extra materials after he stopped working, even though I had paid for them. Some of the work was done poorly and some of it hasn't even been completed and he is now trying to charge me $300 more to finish the work, despite the fact that I paid all the money specified in the contract. I will not use him again and will not recommend him to anyone. After further inspection we noticed the two doors on the screened porch do not fit the frame and have gaps under the door, as well as around the door. They don’t fit snugly in the frame and are not squared evenly. They are $18 doors that were installed on a $9,000. project. When I noticed this dip in the bead board that was installed was actually ran over by a fork lift and you can see tire tracks on the board. I noticed the dip in the bead boards on Monday he said that he wanted to wait a week to see if the boards warped anymore. We never heard anything else from him. He told us he’d give a year guarantee on his work, but obviously that is not the case. The slogan on his website is to consistently exceed customer expectations. He doesn't do the job correctly. He then tries to get more money out of you to fix what he should have done correctly the first time. He wanted the payment for the job before he even completed it. He choose an electrician for me that paid $450 to put up a ceiling fan. He wouldn't let me choose my own electrician to save me some money. He wasn't interested in helping me save money, but only interested in taking as much money from me as he could. I contacted the contractor after everything transpired, and he told me he would come out and fix the deck problems and he said, "he wanted to be done with us." Which is very unprofessional, in my opinion. I gave him the opportunity to fix the problems and finish the work he started, but through Service Magic (which whom we found him), he says he won't come and fix the problems until he receives $300 to fix it. We talked to Doug Brown right before Christmas and he asked us to make a list of all of the problems so that he could come out and fix this mess, and its been about 3 weeks now and we have not heard back from him at all. We've since hired a new guy to fix this mess and he has worked to repair the problems created.
Response from D Brown Construction
"I would like to take the time to correct and set straight the numerous false statements and discrepancies in this customer's report. I will start with the contract which was turn-key meaning i supply all material and labor, therefor I am the one who purchased all materials. The customer was given a breakdown of costs, and a scope of work to be performed at the time of the contract signing. As far as cutting lights down, these were only cut down after the customer realized the dangerous way they were originally installed and said he wanted to replace them himself. All of the work that was contracted was completed and signed off by county inspectors, and the 300 dollars in question is for the installation of lattice requested by the customer at the end, which he has refused to pay. On the issue of the doors there is no problems with these doors, and if this customer found vinyl screen doors for 18 dollars, i guarantee every contractor would love to know where. One thing this customer needs to remember is that this was 3 different jobs completed one after the other, if he was not satisfied with my work or prices he did not have to keep asking for more projects to be undertaken. I know if I am not happy with someone's work I will not ask them to do more. I have never once asked for money before a job is complete and find it disturbing that this customer would accuse me of that. As far as the electrician goes I stand firmly by my policy to only use licensed, insured subcontractors. The issue of the beadboard was brought to my attention at a later time and I informed the customer that I would gladly repair the warped board (which is not the result of poor carpentry , but 1 piece of bad material) if he was willing to pay he is outstanding invoice, which he refused. He then told me not to bother coming to his property. In hindsight I should have known there would be problems when the customer repeatedly tried to convince me not to pull permits, I will always stand by my policy to do what is right, ethical, and lawful. The customer goes on to say the cost was higher than the estimate, but I have the invoices, and contract to show it was actually lower. Thank you for your time reading this, and please remember that not all reports are 100% true."

Doug came to both locations and gave us an estimate for both jobs. We agreed on a date and time. He was a little late but called early enough on the installation date that it made no difference to me. He installed two coax lines. One into our formal living room and one into our kitchen. At my mother's, he installed a new line into her den. Both jobs were done to our satisfaction and right on the estimate. Doug does more than coax lines. He does general home improvement. I will consider him for future home improvements.

Excellent. Doug's company painted the downstairs of a townhouse that had been damaged by broken pipes and also installed a pocket door. They did everything they said they would and were happy to do some touch up that I requested. The floors and door both look great.

Everything was done in a professional manner. I was surprised with the speed in which the work was completed. The quality of work well exceeded my expectations.

It went Great! I originally called one of the top companies on the list and they recommended Doug. I had Doug quote several jobs for me. I had planned to do some work on my own and decided to let Doug install some doors for me. He does most anything other than plumbing. On day one, Doug installed a pocket door for me, installed a bathroom door and built out the entry so the bathroom door would fit. He hung the dry wall, but I told him I'd do the mudding. The doors went in without a problem. On day 2, Doug hung 2 French doors and a new entry door. The total price included the entry door, some dry wall and the pocket door (not pocket door frame). The materials alone probably were $300 of the total cost. Doug even picked up some extra dry wall for me while he was at the store. I don't have a truck, so that made my life easy. I also asked a lot of questions and he gave me tips with the work I was trying to do myself. I would recommend Doug and plan to use him again in the future.

Doug came in for an estimate the same day we called him. We scheduled for the him to come two days latter. The job was done in about two hours. He was very professional, fast and paid attention to the details.
