"UPDATE - We won the case! On May 7th received the lead and had a pleasant conversation with Nancys husband. On May 24th James and Nancy Herndon were provided a written estimate which stated the price for one coat of paint versus the price for two coats. The customer and her husband verbally accepted the estimate for one coat and in a text, they confirmed the date and time I was to start the project. 50% of the estimate is due at the start of the job per the estimate. In the work to be done section, it stated that if it took more than 3 gallons cost would be added at end of the job. Despite having 48 referrals all top scores all 5s and 4s Herndon asked for 3 referrals before they accepted the estimate., they were provided with 4 names and phone numbers they called all four. I finished the job on a Friday she came back to town later that weekend, went to the rental, and said everything looked good. Door panels WERE NOT in the estimate she verbally requested they be done and I had her mark the doors she wanted to be painted with blue tape so there would be no confusion. Common sense Extra work = extra charge. Before I started the change order/the doors I told her husband they were being charged 50% of the normal labor rate, they received a discount on the extra labor AND they were NOT charged for the door paint they paid $0 for the door paint I absorbed that price as a courtesy to my customer. They paid the balance of the contract plus the additional charge on Monday. On Monday her husband said NOTHING about the poor quality of work and shared ZERO complaints. with me at the time of final payment. The day after she complimented my work on June 5th Mrs. Herndon sent me a text demanding to see my paint receipts and that she had called Sherwin Williams. I told her in 30 years my integrity has never been questioned (in fact when you look at my reviews one customer noted I refunded him when his job turned out to be much smaller and easier than originally anticipated)! The price I quoted her was the price I thought I was paying was not aware my Sherwin-Williams rep had lowered my price. It is sad that this customer NEVER complained about the quality of work NEVER but yet wrote 2 bad reviews a 3 and a 1 using two different addresses, do not know why Angie would allow this to happen. The first I heard about quality complaints was when I read the review! Have had ZERO phone or texts from the customer. I saved this customer thousands of dollars by talking her out of removing popcorn ceilings and painting ceilings; I helped her appreciate not necessary in a rental unit, she was ready to pay I told her not to. Only an honest craftsman would treat customers like family as I did. I could have done the popcorn project as requested! I am a third-generation craftsman with 30+ years of experience and was taught by my father to give my best to satisfy my customer. This customer received a high-quality job, and was charged for extras per the contract at discounted rates!!!! It should be noted that during the estimate inspection walkthrough, I commented to the [Consumer Name Removed] that I was amazed the tenant had lived there for 5 years because the walls were so clean even the light switches had no fingerprints. Nancy later commented she thought the renter was a horrible housekeeper. One of the benefits of being a contractor is you can choose who to work for and can turn down work. Nancy comments about her tenant were a warning sign but I had already started the job and made the commitment. Nancy 2 bad reviews are the result. Please see below the exact wording in their estimate, would you have thought you were getting free no labor no paint charges for the doors, and paint beyond 3 gallons.! No!,! ?? Touch up all walls in the apartment. ?"
