Dr. Matthews has provided our dog's care ever since we bought her from a rescue group in 2007, as well as our previous dog, who died in 2007. He is very thorough, and very gentle, and our little rescue cocker spaniel does have issues. All of his staff are friendly, and genuinely care for their patients and owners. Dr. Matthews twice has diagnosed conditions requiring a surgical referral, and though the surgeon was expensive, we were happy with the results. On more than one occasion, our cocker has needed diagnostics and sometimes an all-day stay, and I have never been hesitant to leave her there.
Most recently, he picked up on a life-threatening condition for Tandi, and referred us to a veterinary hospital an hour away that provided more services than he could. Had he not done this, she probably would have died within a day or so--and this was the day before we planned to go out of town for a holiday weekend, leaving her at a kennel, so we wouldn't have been with her. Since then, he has managed all her aftercare, manipulating her medications as needed, which has saved us much time and money. I'm sorry he doesn't have 24-hour care available, but he has an emergency number, and I have spoken with him after hours on a couple of occasions.
