I had an appointment for 11am today and no one arrived. I called and they were on the way. They arrived 20 minutes late, no big deal. The men were courteous and neat.
Since I've had chimney sweeps service my home in TX before, I had a set of expectations this time. The process usually takes over 1 hour to complete. What I expect is for the technician to sweep out the chimney and hearth, then perform a full inspection. This involves the use of lights and a pole mounted camera to check the flue for cracks. I also expect them to go onto the roof and inspect the cap for any issues.
This team of 2 men came in, laid down a tarp, and brought in a vacuum and their brush. They then proceeded to sweep up the chimney, then scoop out the hearth while brushing the walls. Once they had swept the chimney, they cleaned up and wrote me a receipt.
There was no inspection of any kind involved and we are still not sure of how safe our fireplace is. I asked if there were any issues with it and they said "no" and that was it. The entire process took about 15 minutes.
Considering the price I paid, I expected much more. In fact, I could have bought my own chimney brush and done it myself for less. I will not be using this company again.

I called the Carolina Chimney Sweeps and they were able to come out to inspect and provide an estimate an estimate my chimney cap. Two service technicians arrived at the appointment time and were able to provide a quote within minutes.
Since the quote from Caronina Chimney Sweeps was less than half of the other quote I received, I accepted their quote and they made the repairs then.
The two service technicians cleaned and put in new material to cover the old cap. This work took about 45 minutes and looks great.
One of the technicians suggested that we cover the new capping material with plastic so the new material would dry slowly over the next two days. This worked great and the new surface is smooth without any cracks and is rounded to shed water well.
I am very pleased with the quality of the chimney cap repair work done and at the very reasonable price.

These folks did just what they were asked and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. My realtor had a particularly good experience with them when, in the course of a sale, someone identified what they thought were serious problems with the chimney. Fearing an expensive repair and the loss of the sale, my realtor called these folks in. They inspected the chimney and found nothing wrong, saving the sale and an expensive and unnecessary repair.
