It's a long story of the manager coming out to visit, first alone and then with the sales rep. for the flooring company. The rep made some recommendations to get an A/C inspection, tear up a few boards, investigate, relieve pressure in one area where the installers brought the wood super tight against the drywall instead of leaving room for expansion. I got my A/C inspection and nobody from USA flooring every followed through on their end. Since that time, floor board after floor board keeps loosening and moving underfoot. Very disappointing. It was an expensive project and I regret using USA Flooring.
The crew that installed the carpet also moved our furniture and dinged up a few pieces pretty good. Our bed in the master bedroom had chips in the wood (they had taken it apart and stored it in our master bathroom during the installation). They did not point this out or apologize, I just found the issues after they left and know for certain it was their damage as we recently moved into the house and I had already inspected the furniture from the movers so I knew where any pre-existing scratches, etc...were - these were new.
Crew also was loud and played music, etc...even though I was working from home. Overall they just did not appear very professional nor were they able to communicate well. Ideally we would have liked to have our salesperson or a project manager to at least show up at the end of the day to review the work and ensure it was done properly.
The amount of carpet needed was either underestimated or the vendor shipped too little or there was a mix-up on the order, but either way we were short on carpet in the media room and had extra carpet in the bedroom (we had 2 different styles in each room). I was told they would "rush" an order of the media room carpet to finish the job as soon as possible. A week later I still had no carpet on the media room staircase and had to call and ask what the issue was. Again was given reason that vendor was slow to ship (not sure what happened to the "rush" shipment I was promised initially).
They did finally get someone out on a Saturday to finish the job and they did give us a small discount for our troubles after we asked for it. Overall the carpet looks ok but we do notice a lot of lumps/bumps in certain areas where it seems like we can feel the carpet staples underfoot when we walk barefoot on the carpet. So far we haven't had any issues with the carpet coming up, etc...and we hope it stays that way - but overall I am not certain the quality of the installation was the best out there. We do love the carpet itself which is more praise to the manufacturer than the installation vendor. We ordered a soft carpet from Dreamweaver in both rooms and really like the look/feel of the carpet.
Based on our experience I am not sure we would use again. I think they could improve their process by having a project manager check in on the job and having better communication with the customer.
The next part is the worst part: within weeks of install, the flooring that covers the kitchen area began cupping. It has become very noticeable and really stands out. The salesman I had been working with came out and said cupping is not an installation issue and would not happen unless there was a moisture problem. He asked and inspected for signs of an appliance leak or burst pipe, none of which had happened. He tested the moisture levels between the wood and said they were much higher than acceptable in the kitchen, but okay in the family room. There is no cupping in the family room. He stated the installers would not have installed the wood at the time without first testing the moisture level. I am very skeptical about that. He had the store manager come out, who stated he would like to try to help problem solve. He examined the crawl space for signs of moisture problems and found none. I have a sealed crawlspace under the kitchen floors, where there is a dehumidifier. My logic is that the kitchen is the only area which did not have a new subfloor, and it's the only area that is cupping. The manager said he will have the wood rep. come out and take a look. Three weeks passed without a word. I called last week, and was told the salesman who worked with me had quit abruptly, but that the manager would call me the following day. 4 days passed, so I went there in person today. The manager was working and told me the regional manager had told him he really doesn't need to be having the wood rep. come out to my house, since cupping is "not an installation problem." However, he said he would still be in touch about having the wood rep. come out. I feel at a complete loss for what to do. My gut says the salesman should not have discouraged me from having the old linoleum and subfloor torn out and a new subfloor put in. I wanted it done as "right" as possible. Now I have a brand new maple floor that looks really terrible, to be frank. Everyone who sees it notices the cupping. I really hope they will make this right, but I'm feeling as though the problem-solving is going nowhere. The salesman made a big deal about how USA Flooring will stand by their work and warranty, as opposed to Lumber Liquidators, who often gets into a dance where LL blames problems on the installers, and the installers blame problems on the quality of the LL wood, and nothing is solved. Aside from all of this, I can also say that in the 4 houses where I've had hardwood floors, I have never had a floor with a finish that scratches so easily. It's really disappointing, and I do not have the funds to have the floors redone. If I have a positive outcome, I will certainly be responsible and update this review.
I called to complain. They don't seem sorry/apologetic about any of this. Don't waste your time with these people.
The installer was timely, efficient, neat, and did a good job. He did leave some glue on the flooring what we had to remove ourselves.
Overall, we are very happy.
I did business through the Durham location. The rep was professional, straightforward on everything, answered all questions and showed me a range of options. The installation crew was friendly and respectful and did a great job on the work. Took less than a day and my apartment looks completely different now. I'm happy with the experience all around.
"Thank you so much for trusting us in your home. I hope you continue to enjoy your flooring and we at the Durham store and all of USA Flooring thank you for your kind words."
Team that did install was great and I was really comfortable having them in the house. They worked fairly late into the evenings to get the job done and finished a day earlier than estimated.
When they arrived to put the carpets on the steps, they had to return the carpet because it needed to be bound on the sides, which meant that installation was also delayed. However, the final outcome looks fantastic. I love the carpet and have had many compliments on it.
