After 38 years, it was time for a new kitchen. Fortunately I hired Bill Camp of Triangle Design Kitchen. From demolition of the old kitchen, to completion of the new kitchen it was a delightful experience. Bill and his team are knowledgeable, skilled, precise, creative, innovative professionals! Bill built me a "dream kitchen" that is customized to how I cook and what I use to cook. He creatively used every inch of space available. Bill is so current on the "state of the art" in kitchens, that I went with 100% of his ideas! The end product is gorgeous and functional.
I am so grateful to Bill and his team for a job well done!
Bill was extremely helpful in the design phase of the project. His knowledge of cabinet design allowed him to take the wild design ideas that we had and adapt them to work within our budget through the creative use of semi-custom cabinetry. He literally brought our concepts to life, including a tiled ventless fireplace with a mantle that integrated into surrounding cabinetry, built in bench seating with storage that matched our existing cabinets, quartz window sills, and a minimalistic floating bathroom vanity.
I was thoroughly impressed with Bill's business acumen- clearly he has been doing this for many years. As we moved forward with scheduling the reno, Bill outlined the scope of work and timeline with official contracts so that we would always know exactly what to expect. Even minor change requests were documented with official change order paperwork which assured me that every detail that we had discussed would be addressed.
The cabinet order arrived on schedule, and the crew went to work. Cabinetry installation was handled by Ashley Boltinhouse, while electrical, plumbing, and tile was subbed out to Bill Stockford and Steve Beezley, with all coordination of the work handled by Bill Camp. The attention to detail that the TDK team puts into their work is absolutely incredible. "Good enough" is not in their vocabulary - everything fits perfectly, doors line up exactly, drawers open and close smoothly, and tile work is perfectly centered and transitions seamlessly to adjacent surfaces.
The finished product totally exceeded our expectations, and my wife and I could not be happier. We would absolutely recommend Bill Camp and Triangle Design Kitchen to anyone considering a kitchen or bath remodel.
There were no misunderstandings about the measurements, the design, or the building of the cabinets so everything fit just as intended.
Eighteen months later, we still love the new design and appreciate the improvement to our home. When there was one door knob that broke, one call to Bill brought him over and he ordered and delivered a new knob.
We also used the contractor he usually works with & recommends, Bill Stockford of Energy Independent Builders. They were also easy to work with, and did quality work on the plumbing, electrical, carpentry, insulation, drywall, and painting (his crew didn't do the floors - the company we purchased the flooring from did that install).
I would highly recommend Bill Camp and TDK - we are very happy with both how our project was handled, and with our new kitchen.
Our order was placed with the cabinet maker and a delivery date was agreed upon. Demolition of the kitchen began about a week before the delivery of the cabinets. All inspections were passed prior to installation of the cabinets. All deliveries were on schedule for the cabinet work.
Cabinet work went very well. TDK had a very tight space to work in and they designed everything to fit perfectly. We were very pleased with the cabinet work. Bill has a very practical approach to designing and we found that to be especially helpful. We wanted a kitchen that fit the house and not one that overpowered the house. We feel we accomplished that with Bill's advice.
We have been very pleased with the increased storage space we have with our new cabinets. Everything is easily reached now.
We had one problem with the granite. The edging was not done properly. The granite was replaced and edged correctly with no additional cost to us. My expectation is that we lost about 3 work days in the process. Not a big deal.
Overall, we were pleased with the work of TDK. Things were done on schedule and the budget was maintained. Bill Camp is very easy to work with and willing to offer insights and assistance on whatever topics you need help with. We relied on him to help us a lot in selecting the wall color and he made suggestions and brought by paint for us to see the colors in place.
Our total project took 8 weeks and that included Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. Without the Holiday times, it may have been a week or so shorter but we had planned on two months.
We think Bill does an excellent job in coordinating the many activities that are needed in a project of this type. We did not have any delays due to something being backordered or not delivered on time.
All City inspections were completed and everything passed. Being an older home, we did have to install smoke detectors but were not required to have them hard wired. Battery operated were fine.
He also worked well with suppliers and engaged high quality subcontractors and tradesmen with the result that the demolition, construction and installation process was much less disruptive than we had expected. The end result is a beautiful and functional new kitchen that we hope to be able to enjoy for years to come.
We consider Triangle Design Kitchens to be an excellent service provider and have no reservations about highly recommending this company.
He also answered and gave me moral support when I was stressing out about the contractor who did the tear out, dry wall, floors, plumbing, painting and heat/ac (more on that below). Ashley did a great job fitting the cabinets into a not straight room, replaced 2 doors that had problems that I didn't even see and added wonderful details I hadn't thought of, but love (small cables to keep the doors from hitting the walls, vent hood, etc.). He came back and replaced the trim under the cabinets when it wasn't big enough to cover the lights (no charge). AND he cleaned up after himself every day!
An example of Bill's kindness was that twice after everything was complete, drawers got stuck on things (a pot my husband crammed in the first day and a knife that popped up in another). Both times he only teased me a little, then made really helpful suggestions and explained how the drawers could easily come off. The second time was on Christmas Eve day and he didn't act impatient or bothered at all!
Bill also oversaw the installation of granite counter tops and ceramic tile backsplash. Both were done on time and beautifully. Twice he had the installers come back to fix minor problems, one of which I hadn't seen.
The only thing I didn't like as much wasn't Bill at all - it was the contractor Bill works with, Energy Independent Builders. Although they finished their parts of the job on time and under budget, I found the contractor (Bill Stockford) too laid back. Out of 8 weeks, there was only one week that someone was there every day. Most weeks there was lots of work on Monday/Tuesday, then nothing at all. This was frustrating when we were living with the guest bathroom as the "kitchen!" He would fix anything I found, but never looked for problems or things done wrong. He always fixed things, but it was frustrating that I had to find them all. Bill Camp said in the beginning I could get my own contractor and I wonder if I should have.
My only suggestion would be to make sure the drawings include horizontal measurements and where and how the outlets will be installed. Ours didn't have that and although it all worked out (Thanks Bill Camp!), it would have been less stressful if that info had been on the drawings.
