I have a maintenance agreement where they come out twice a year. They do preventative maintenance on the heating and A/C units.

Excellent service as always. Spoke to Marty several times throughout the process. I asked him to price out several different units and he offered straightforward, solid advice as to which units I should be looking at. In the end I decided on replacing the existing unit with an upgraded Carrier unit, same as the unit being replaced. The crew arrived early and had the unit replaced by 4:00 PM and did a great job. Save yourself some stress and call Marty and talk to him about what you units you are looking for. He will come out to the house personally and provide you options. They install and service units from all manufacturers and they get good pricing. Shumate may not be the cheapest, but they offer the best value, and this is what you should be looking for when either having your system serviced or replaced. You want an HVAC company that does commercial and residential as they have a lot of experience and it shows with the quality of their work. I had another company install the HVAC Unit at my last home 7 years ago. They provided a a little bit lower price than Shumate and their work was of lower quality, you see the correlation here. That company went out of business several years later and Shumate is still going strong. I will be contacting them again in the future when it's time to replace my other HVAC unit upstairs.

Work was done very well. I wish that i had just gotten the old system fixed. This was not Shumate's problem, i had already been pressured by another company and they told me that i should replace the 10 year old REEM system. I did not trust the other company and checked Angies List for someone else to replace the system. Shumate was able to install a new system the next day.

It was a wonderful experience. It was scary, we thought we had a fire and called the fire department, they shut the system down. We called Shumate and they came right out and they found that the motor was still under warranty and so we did not have to pay for the motor. We just had to pay for them to come out. I would definitely recommend them. They have a really good program where they come out twice a year and check everything.

I can recommend them; they made sure the job was done to my satisfaction. They were very thorough and returned once or twice to get everything right. Every time they visited they had two technicians; which was good.

I contacted 3 companies for a quote to replace our furnace in our attic. Marty Jones with Shumate came out when he said he would and did a great job for us. My wife commented on how he was the only one of the three to actually measure the attic door opening. Marty provided us with a written quote the next day, but not for what I?d asked for. Instead, he quoted what we needed. I?d asked for a quote on a 95% efficient furnace, knowing there was a tax credit available and thinking that was much better than the 18 yr old 80% efficient unit we had.  I figured the energy savings would pay for the added cost within 5-7 years. Marty explained to me that an attic unit only provides 30-35% of our heating requirement with our downstairs gas-pack providing the rest. He?d used an Energy Star calculator to show me that the payback period of the added cost was actually more like 20-22 years, which is the average life expectancy of a new unit. A better option for us would be to go with a variable-speed, 2-stage heating option.

I spent the next several days educating myself on AFUE ratings and furnace features and discovered he was right. So rather than sell me what I thought I needed, Marty spent the time to help me understand what I was buying and why. When I?d settled on the make and model I wanted (Trane XV80), I asked all three companies to give me their best quote. Marty?s quote was within $100 of one of the other companies and the other company was $900 higher (shame on them). I had Marty quote me a humidifier as well to increase our comfort during the winter months. He won my business.

When Marty?s crew came out to do the installation, they were very professional. They applied a plastic covering to the carpets (which the kids enjoyed walking on since it was sort of like bubble wrap), were polite and more than willing to answer any questions. My wife was very pleased with the whole experience. When I came home and checked it out, I couldn?t have been happier. The attic work area was clean, the unit looks great and they?d even shored up some of the older pieces with straps and screws. The new Honeywell thermostat is a breeze to program and we can?t even tell when the heat kicks on due to the variable speed motor. Awesome.

I highly recommend Shumate and will definitely use them when our gas pack finally gives up the ghost. Marty had some advice on that too ? a dual-fuel option (heat pump/gas-pack) with a high SEER value (14+) and 95% AFUE. On the downstairs unit, high efficiency makes sense.

I hired them on the basis of taking care of my system in the spring and in the fall.  The amount I paid them was $178 for two visits that they were here for taking care of my units.  I was thrilled and very pleased with them.  They are very professional.  The gentleman that came out was clean and neat.  He knew his business and went about it in a good professional way.  When I had questions, he answered them quite well.  I was very happy with him.  Shumate is a place that I would highly recommend.  They do have the programmes which I was looking for, that would have them coming out in the spring to take care of my air conditioning and then in the fall to take care of my heating.  They do have that programme and I was just very pleased with them.  I will use their services again in the future.

I dealt with Marty Jones (owner and general manager) initially and he could not have been more pleasant and helpful.  He personally came out and provided a quote to do the work.  Patrick and JD were on time the day of the installation....they were there all day in 100 degree heat and could not have been better.  When they were done Patrick explained all the paperwork and how to apply for the rebates, etc.  Overall great experience and I would not hesitate to recommend them to my friends.

Excellent service. They went the extra mile to do the work the way it should be done instead of just doing it. Marty Jones was very helpful in explaining options for eliminating the problems I had with the old system and providing for a sunroom we may want to add in the future. Straight talk, full disclosure, and no pricing gimmicks or add-ons.

There may be other companies as good, but I can't believe there are any that are better.

When we needed a new downstairs HVAC, we received quotes from several companies that had received good reviews.  In the end, we settled on Shumate, and could not be happier with our decision.  They arrived on schedule, did what they promised and did it well, cleaned up after themselves, spent time to explain the features of the new system and how to use it, and followed up a month after the install to make sure everything was still working to our satisfaction.  When it comes time to replace our HVAC, I'll pick up the phone and give Shumate a call.. During the planning phase, Shumate spent time discussing the several alternatives HVAC systems at different price points that would meet our needs.  Once we settled on the system which we wanted, we scheduled our appointment.  Shumate arrived early on the day of the appointment and worked throughout the day.  They removed the old HVAC, installed the new one, and did an excellent job cleaning up.  Inside, a new programmable thermostat was installed closer our return register so as to be more accurate.  After setting up the thermostat, the installer walked me through the thermostat and how to use the many features it provides. Our home was scheduled to switch from propane to natural gas in the Fall, so we opted not to install the propane conversion kit and connect the HVAC to propane.  That Fall after natural gas was run to our home, Shumate came out, the same crew who installed our system came out, hooked up the HVAC to the natural gas line, and handled the inspection process for no additional cost.

I requested a Residential Preventative Maintenance (PM) Agreement. The price quoted is for a PM on the air conditioner and future PM on the heating system. JR arrived in a neat unifrom and identified himself in a proper manner. He explained what he would be doing and then went right to work. He first cleaned the interior vents, changed all filters and checked all of the thermostats. He then checked the exterior air conditioner system. After spending over two hours on the system he reviewd all the work he had done and the condition of the entire system. I would strongly recommend JR and the Shumate company. They are truly professional!

At first, I thought the job went great and was happy with the work. However, I later discovered while getting an energy efficiency checkup that the installer had failed to seal the ducts to the main chases with mastic, so the system was very leaky. This was a shame, because the duct work itself was installed well, but we were losing a lot of energy because of the failure to seal correctly. I contacted Shumate and they promised to fix the issue, but after promising and failing several times to come out and fix the issue, I gave up on them and had my energy efficiency guy do the work.

Patrick and Jason arrived right on time and started working. George arrived an hour or two later with a nicely prepared packet of information regarding our new heat pump, the $1500 tax credit, the $600 manufacturer's rebate, and the $420 Progress Energy rebate. George filed for both rebates on our behalf which was helpful. Patrick and Jason worked all day and well into the evening to get the job done. They were both very friendly, and are W-2 employees of Shumate (not contractors). They put "gloves" on their feet every time they entered the house to protect our carpeting. Because our old unit had to be disassembled to get it out of the attic, Patrick came back a day or two later and took care of that task. I sent the following email to George and his boss at Shumate after the work was done: "George, I just wanted to let you know how satisfied I am with every aspect of our new heat pump installation. The information you provided during both the planning and implementation phase was helpful and complete, and the installers showed up on time and worked diligently to get the system installed. Patrick and his assistant had to work late into the night to get the system finished since you installed a new larger plenum at no additional charge. Patrick then came back today to adjust the air flow, seal the ducts, and disassemble our old unit in order to remove it from the attic. All the work was done neatly and everything appears to be working just fine. Most of all, you were all nice people to deal with and to have in our home." "In my opinion it's rare these days to find a company that does good work, so please be sure that I'll recommend Shumate to others."
