After 38 years in our home, my husband bought me a gorgeous Stelian Popa iron fence for our 45th wedding anniversary. garden. I called several companies, searched the web, found Raleigh Wrought Iron & Fence on Angie's List. Mr. Popa immigrated from Romania over 25 years ago. He is very professional, talented, prompt and "KNOWS HIS STUFF"!!! It is fascinating to watch the video of him "blacksmithing" on his website.
I called Stelian for an estimate. From the "get go" it was obvious I was going with his company. He told me when he would come to take my old fence down, remove the old posts, breakup the concrete and haul it all away. When the rain stopped he came and did exactly what he promised. Came back and installed the posts. Came back and installed the beautiful fence. All went like clockwork. Stelian and his men (Joel is an accomplished welder) worked like the Blue Angels. You could SEE their experience in their mode of operation. During the process they ALWAYS left my garden immaculately clean.
What an addition to my garden, simply beautiful. What a positive experience with a seasoned professional!
We selected a design that we liked from the one of the photos displayed on their website. The railings were fine but we hit some bumps in the road when it came to installation. We ordered the railings in the color brown but when they arrived, they had painted the rails black. No big deal, mistakes happen and they were sent back to be painted again. They returned a week later and installed the railings. When I returned home that evening, I noticed that there were two screws that were silver and had not been painted. I also noticed that there were some nails protruding from my columns. When we spoke that night I requested that the screws be painted brown and to also leave me some paint for touch up. I was assured they had already been painted and that they would be touched up the next day upon receipt of payment. No explanation for the nails sticking out from my columns but I later determined that the measurement of the rails may have been a little off which caused them to tighten the screws in the columns tighter than normal so the rails would reach the columns. This tightening pulled the columns off slightly from their base which caused any nails already in them to become dislodged.
I left payment out the next day. When I returned home, the two screws I had previously requested be painted were not and did not see a paint sample. Never heard from Raleigh Wrought Iron again even after I let them know the screws were still not painted. I did later find a very small sample of paint in a Smithfield?s Chicken BBQ cup in my grass which froze that night because I was unaware it had been left. I was able to thaw the paint sample and attempt to paint the silver screws. Did not turn out perfect because the paint had been compromised but was sufficient enough to get by.
I did receive cheaper quotes and in one case, a quote $1,000 less than what I agreed to with Raleigh Wrought Iron. I selected them because I trusted they had the experience and expertise to provide what I wanted. The rails appear to be fine and are pleased with them so far. Was not entirely pleased with the communication during the installation process. The installation was not entirely satisfactory as it should have been. It is not acceptable to have two large screws on the railings silver when they should have been painted as I requested. Looking back, the installation made me question whether I should have maybe selected one of their competitors and saved some money. My expectation is that when I spent the amount of money that I did on rails, the company would have followed up after installation to ensure that I was satisfied. Craftsmanship was fine and would be comfortable recommending them on this aspect alone but should have withheld final payment until my concerns were addressed.
The railing was completed in the 3 week time period as promised. They did a great job, performing a clean removal and structurally sound installation. The railing is simply beautiful, EXACTLY what we wanted and what he promised!! It is so nice to look at and is such an improvement to our front entrance. We highly recommend Sam for your wrought iron needs and suggest you watch video of his work on his website, it's amazing and nice to see a well-made product made in America by hand. All A's for Raleigh Wrought Iron Co!
