Visited Plant Delights on behalf of my father to get a gift for my mother for mothers' day. I did not know it was appointment only, as I was visiting as a personal favor to my father. I drove one hour from running errands in Wake Forest with $200.00 to buy two peonies. They were open for sales that day by appointment only. They were nice to see me without an appointment. They rung me up for two peonies at $300.00. Unfortunately, they quoted my father $200.00. Apparently they have special weekend pricing. I explained that I only had $200 to spend and could not come back for the special weekend pricing (seeing as how I needed the gift for mothers' day weekend). I asked if there was any way that she could check to see if I could have the special pricing. She said no, and that the owners are very firm. I asked if she could even just ask her manager, seeing as how $200 is more then $0. The associate did ask her manager who agreed to sell me the peonies. At that point I was very happy- until the manager said "even though you were snippy we will get you the flowers." I would have walked away after being called snippy, but I knew how much my mother wanted this rare peonies. I have never been called names at any establishment ever, so needles to say I was upset.

Go on the open house weekends so that you can explore the plants in person and decide what you want to buy. Great for getting those rare, unique, conversation-piece plants. Don't expect to find a lot of NC natives.

I visited Plant Delights on one of the open days and also have spent a lot of time viewing their online catalog. My background is in plant diversity and this nursery has been very impressive. They have many different demonstration gardens that show the potential of plants that one may want to add to their own yard; they also have a pretty good labeling system throughout the grounds and document how plants have fared on their property so that customers have a good idea of whether a plant will work well on their own land. Prices are higher than one will find at Lowe's or Home Depot- expect around $12 for most 4" pots. But the plants are healthy and the customer service is excellent.

The nursery has open houses several times a year. It is worth going to see what they have and to see their amazing gardens. The staff is very knowledgable. They will give you information on growing anything you are buying or thinking about buying. Things tend to be a little pricey, but the quality is very high. They are primarily a mail order business and they send plants all over the country.
