I scheduled the work with Linwood Piper, owner for the last week of May. The work was supposed to have been finished in ~ 2 weeks. There were multiple delays: problems with the business' painting system and a long back order of one or more parts. The truck was delivered repaired and looked good. Drove it home and there was a major rattle in the door and scratches on the hood I didn't recall being there. I had to make a couple of extra trips back to get these items fixed and Linwood did so without question or hesitation.
Because of the long delay in getting my truck back, Piperperformance made very reasonable adjustments in my bill to offset other expenses incurred from the wreck (alternate transportation). Piper also did some extras (outstanding work ethic) that I'm sure other businesses would not have done.
The only thing is that where the rear door was repaired, it does not align with the truck bed, but sticks out about an inch. The truck was so shiny, I and (perhaps Linwood) missed this flaw which I didn't notice until months later. The repaired door works fine, the truck drives fine, so the misalignment is not that big a deal on my 10 year-old truck, but probably would be on a Mercedes.

I had taken my car to another repair shop, but after seeing the kinks on the doors, they said I needed a shop with a frame machine, which they didn't have. They recommended Linwood at Piperformance Inc, called him, and setup a time for an estimate. I had seen all the good reviews for Linwood on Angie's List, but went to the other shop first because it was close to my home(it also had great reviews on Angie's List).
When I arrived for my estimate, I found Linwood to be very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. A good first impression! His shop looked very good, and had one car all wrapped in plastic. When I asked one of his employees what kind of car it was, he said it was a Rolls Royce. A good second impression! When he did the estimate, it included taking the front bumper off before painting, taking the moldings, mirrors, and handles off the doors before painting, and taking the moldings off the rear quarter panels before painting. No masking around the trim. A good third impression!
The next day I went to Allstate(the at fault driver's company) to get their estimate. They disagreed with somethings on the one from Linwood, including using a re-conditioned rear bumper instead of a new one, and it was almost $1500 lower. When I showed it to Linwood, he said he refused to use re-conditioned bumpers because they were not as smooth as new ones, and didn't paint well. To prove his point, he pointed to my front bumper(it had been replaced the year before using a re-conditioned one), and said that is probably why the paint had cracked, and the base color coat looked like it had texture in it. He told me not to worry about it, as he would work something out to use a new Mazda rear bumper. He also said it was his job to deal with the insurance company when they disagreed on things, so I shouldn't worry about the estimates being different. A good fourth Impression! I told him I was going out of town for a while, and not being sure when I would return, I would call to schedule the repairs when I did.
Later, when I took the car in to be repaired, the high heat was causing havoc with Linwood's painting schedule. I had another car, so told him I was in no hurry, and to take his time.
When they took the front bumper off, they found out it, along with the energy absorber, had been damaged, so both would need to be replaced. Even though the supplement from Allstate called for using a re-conditioned front bumper as with the rear one, Linwood still said he would work something out so to use new Mazda ones.
One day while I was in the area, I stopped by to see how things were coming. Linwood wasn't there, but I noticed the car up on the frame machine. I went over to look at it, and one of the employees came over after seeing me. He showed me how he was taking the kinks out of the tops of the doors, and also explained how they had cut out the damaged rear body panel, and welded a new one in. It was all caulked, and looked just like it had come from the factory! A good fifth impression!
A few days later I stopped in to see how Linwood was doing with the insurance company on the supplement and original estimate.
He said he had worked it out where I would get new Mazda bumpers for both the front and back, by working a deal with his supplier and eating some of his normal profit from the new bumpers. He indicated he would rather make less profit and have his work look good than make more profit and have it show in his work. A good sixth impression!
When the car was finished, a friend dropped me off at the end of the day to pick it up. It looked great, and the paint on the front bumper looked much better than it had after the earlier repair with a re-conditioned bumper. When I went to open the trunk to see how the removal of the kink in the trunk floor looked, my key wouldn't work. When I went inside and told Linwood, he realized he had forgotten to have the new lock re-keyed. He apologized and said any time I was in the area I could drop it off, and use his car for the time it would take them to remove the lock, him to take it to the locksmith to be re-keyed, and them to reinstall it. When I asked if it wouldn't be easier for him if I made an appointment rather than just dropping in, he said since I had been nice enough to give them three weeks to do the repairs, they could drop what they were doing to finish things. I asked if was OK if I just came in the next morning and rode with him to the locksmith. He said that would be fine. We did that and had a nice visit.
Linwood also mentioned to me that I should be able to get some money from the insurance company for "diminished value". I hadn't heard of this, so asked him what it was. He said the car was worth less even after good repairs because of the accident, especially because it had frame damage. The insurance company should reimburse me for the amount it had diminished in value from just before the accident and after the repairs. As part of preparing a diminished value claim, I took it to CarMax to get an appraisal as to what they would pay me for it. On the printed appraisal they gave me it said "very high quality repairs".In fact, the appraiser told me that he would not have known it was in an accident if I had not told him. A good final impression!
I found Linwood to not only run a very good repair shop, but to be a very nice person. He puts the quality of his repairs before extra profit, takes the time to explain things no matter how busy he is, and is always very pleasant. All the employees I dealt with were the same way. Hopefully I won't have any reason in the future to stop in other than to say hello, but, if I have the need for a repair shop, or someone needs a recommendation, it will definitely be Piperformance!
"Thanks for the good word any problems just let me know and it was nice to meet you even though it is not the best way to do so I am glad I could help."
Very pleased with the results. You wouldn't even know that any work was done. The paint matched perfectly and the area where the work was done looked like it did when we picked up the car from the dealer. In fact have already referred Piperformance to other people we know.
"Thanks for the good words sorry it has taken me this long to respond to your review but Glad I could help any problems just let us know. Thanks Again!"
"[member name removed] Thank you! if you have any problem let me know and have a great week."
"Thank you ! and I hope one day we can restore a old car for you that would be great for both of us."
"Thank You always glad to help"
My first interaction was over the phone to see if they could provide a quote in a timely manner. Well done
Second interaction stopping in for the quote - took 20 minutes and Linwood talked to me about as a person not as a sale.... well done!
Third - dropped off my truck after hours and left keys in the drop box. Linwood called me when he got in and let me know they would be starting on the truck later that day.
Fourth - picking my truck up - he and one of his employees were outside washing the exterior! awesome!
Payment was easy.
reasonable cost for great service.
I'm sold for all future work!
"Thank You ! always glad to help"
