I was not aware but a tree limb had fallen and caused the damage that resulted in the roof leaking into my kitchen. The company responded quickly and repaired my roof in a timely manner. I no longer have a roof leak and I was very satisfied with their services all around.
I began calling Daniel Terry in May, 2011 to ask about the warranty and whether we needed to have them do the work. It took four phone calls and one rather irate voicemail for him to finally call me back just to answer that question. He came out in June to inspect the damage and we showed him the plans for the bed/bath addition. He gave us a reasonable verbal estimate and we said we would contact him once we hired a contractor to perform the other work.
We decided, and our GC agreed, that it would be best to have all the roofing work done at one time since the tornado damage to the roof was relatively minor and we weren't experiencing any leaks. When our GC was getting close to being done with the framing, we gave them Daniel's number so they could coordinate the roofing work. Our GC called numerous times and we're not sure if he ever spoke with Daniel. So, we started calling Daniel, and had to leave a couple voicemails before we could get him to call us back. (Note: His voice mailbox is nearly always full, so most of the time when you call, you can't even leave a message!)
Daniel finally called back and told us that the shingles currently have had been discontinued and sent my husband out to the supplier to pick out new shingles for the addition. (Our thought here was that Daniel should have gone to the supplier himself, picked up the samples and brought them to us. Very unprofessional.) We picked out the closest shingles we could find, called and emailed Daniel with our selection. A WEEK LATER, he ordered the shingles after more phone calls and voicemails (when we could leave them). He made us purchase the shingles on our credit card!! He said they should arrive that Friday and that they would be here then to install the roof.
We desperately wanted to get the roof on before Hurricane Irene came through that weekend. Did they show up that Friday as promised?? No. We called and called and called and could never get Daniel. The rain started pouring and within 45 minutes, we had leaks in the addition. We called and called and called Daniel, and still couldn't get him. We at least wanted them to come out and put tarps over the addition so we wouldn't have any more leaks. In the end, our GC had to put tarps on the roof, on a Friday night at around 7pm (when they had already left for the day), in the pouring rain.
We sent Daniel a not-so pleasant email and received a response saying that our GC must not have felted the roof properly. He blamed them for the leaks even though we'd been trying for a couple weeks to get the roof installed by ORR. He said that though the shingles were there, they would not have installed them in haste because they wouldn't have held, etc. He then blamed our GC again for not drying in the roof properly and said ORR would be out first thing on Monday to install the roof. He also said we could contact him at any time over the weekend. We called, and his voice mailbox was always full.
Were they there that Monday to install the roof?? No. They finally came on Tuesday to start work on the tornado damage repairs. They removed the old soffit and fascia and left the underside of the overhang completely unprotected overnight, and it rained again. The following day they came out and put the new soffit and fascia on. They started on the roof work the following day, completing the tornado repairs and starting on the roof for the addition. They got as far as they could, and ran out of shingles! (This happened when we had the original roof put on too -- see my other review for ORR.) He ordered more shingles, on our credit card again, and said they would be delivered on Friday and they would be out that Friday to complete the work. I told him we were both going to be out of town that weekend (Labor Day) and that we could meet with him anytime the following Tuesday to finalize payment. He said something like, and quot;Oh, I was planning to come by Friday to pick up the check.and quot; He then backtracked and said they would have all the work completed by Monday (Labor Day) and would come by Tuesday to collect the check.
When we came back on Labor Day, they still had not finished the roof on the addition. We had called multiple times over the course of the weekend and never got Daniel.
We finally got them out on Tuesday to finish the work. My husband had to instruct the guy (Randy) who was working here that he needed to also finish puttying the nail holes on the soffits and that there was a piece of molding missing from one end of the soffit. He reluctantly did so and finished the soffit work. Randy spent most of the day here for about 2-3 hours work. I think he spent more time smoking on our roof than nailing shingles on.
Daniel came the following day to collect payment and to sign forms we needed for insurance purposes on the tornado damage. The total amount owed looked a little high to us and we found out that he was trying to charge us again for the shingles we had already purchased on our credit card!! We got the corrected amount, wrote him a check and hope we never have to see him again.
To sum up, Olde Raleigh Roofing is a completely unprofessional and unreliable business. Daniel Terry is extremely hard to get in touch with and has very little professional courtesy for his clients. They have no sense of customer service, even for repeat clients and tried to overcharge us by about $1000 in the end. We will never use them again (warranty or no warranty) and we will never recommend them to anyone else.
