"After reviewing our records, I do not currently have a Mr. [member name removed] as a Englert LeafGuard customer for the Raleigh NC office. As there are a lot of cover products on the market, it seems he has purchased a different two piece product."
LeafGuard installed their patented gutters on our house a few years after we purchased our house (sometime between 1997 - 2002). When we renovated our house in 2008, we asked them to reinstall their gutters. All of their installations are very well done and have saved us a lot of time. We have a lot of tall pines in our yard and their gutters have cut the cleaning of our gutters from once every two weeks to once a year.
We had a leak in our roof at the junction between our deck and our main house and this leak may have been introduced during our renovation. We obtained a very high estimate for the leak from another company and called LeafGuard to see what options they would provide. They came out and fixed the roof leak and we've had no issues with it since. In addition, they agreed to fix the soffit at a VERY reasonable price. (My husband punched a hole in the soffit as a quick fix to the leak until we could get an official fix.) Mike, who came out to do the work, provided me with very helpful advice for additional steps to take that had nothing to do with the fix that they did. LeafGuard has been an excellent company and we will very gladly work with them in the future.
I was pleased with all aspects of the work, from the estimate to the finished job.

"I regret to inform you that after going through our records, the Englert LeafGuard Gutter System was not sold to you or installed on your home. Unfortunately, a lot of companies use the words leaf guard to describe their product. We do use all our own employees, all of whom speak English. We have never had an employee named Nick. We have a set price per foot, which anyone can get at our office. We never play pricing games. If you have any further question or if I can be of any further assistance, please feel free to contact me at our Raleigh office - 919-832-2253 Dawn Scherer Office Manager"
The product works really well but I am writing this review now because some of the things we didn't know at the time that caused problems later. The company changed ownership between when we signed a contract after an estimate and when the work was done, but we were not informed of this until after the work was done. At that time, a return visit to the home was needed so I called the company based on the contact info on the contract. It was then that I found out that the work was done under a different owner/business. We had selected LeafGuard partly based on the product but also on the reputation of the local company. We shoud have been informed of the change of ownership before any work was done but no effort was made to inform us.
.We were told when we signed the contract that new downspouts would have to be installed to accomodate larger volumes of water. We were also told that additional downspouts would be needed as our downspouts were too far apart based on the Leafguard standard . All of the existing downspouts drained into pipes underground to carry water away from the house, so we asked that the location of any additional downspouts be discussed with us before they were installed. We were told they had to be no more than a certain distance apart but if there were options we would be consulted. This didn't happen. Instead, we ended up with two additiional downspouts in the front of the house and one on the back. The two in the front drained water directly onto soil at the foundation, one next to our front porch, the other on a corner next to the front porch steps. The one in back drained at the junction of the foundation and a brick patio. As our house is on a hill, the first time it rained, we had washout from the front downspouts and water accumulating on the ground and the patio at the back. This is why I called for a them to come back. Another unexpected outcome was finding over 4 dozen 10 inch long nails scattered all over our yard from where they pulled out the old gutters. It appeared that no one had attempted to collect the nails. I informed the owner when I called about the drainage problem and he acknowledged that the nails should have been cleaned up.
They came back one time to address the drainage. Their solution for the new back downspout was a boot and a short corrugated pipe that redirected the water under our deck. They offered no solutions at the front. Later we discovered that water was pooling under our deck and foundation from the pipe they installed. We also had water pooling in the area of one of the front downspouts. The other front downspout drainage created an erosion problem through the middle of our front yard. So we had to have corrogated drainage pipes installed at all three downspouts to carry water completely away from our house. They are ugly, the alternative is to excavate trenches starting at each downspout and run the drainage pipes underground-a lot more costly and disruptive to existing lanscaping and hardscaping.
The LeafGuard gutters work great. We have a number of tall trees that drop a ton of leaves on our roof. Our old gutters were always clogged an a pain to clean. Leaf Guard means no leaves ever. The very disappointing part is that there seemed to be no consideration of the problems created when a new 4 inch downspout is dumping large volumes of water onto soil or concrete or brick at the junction with the foundation. I don't know if this company has increased its attention to this issue since our installation, but anyone who is told they will need more downspouts needs to know before signing a contract, as they will likely incur additional costs to manage the drainage..
First a man came to do the estimate. A different man came to take down my old gutters. Then I had the house stained twice including a very large deck. The gutters were installed after the staining was complete. With rain days off it was about a month before everything could be complete.
"Thank you for such a kind response, but our product "LeafGuard" is a one-piece gutter system. We are not a cap, filter or screen."
