We used John's movers back in 2016 and their service was exceptionally good. We were very pleased with the care and professionalism of their entire staff. We also used John's movers this year (March 2020) and are EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED. The staff moving our property out of the house did a satisfactory job with one major exception. They broke the fitting between two pieces of a sectional sofa. I actually raised my voice and told them to STOP forcing the pieces apart and explained how the fittings work. It is broken now and can't be repaired. Fortunately it is in a place where it will be used very often. Our closing was moved due to the hacking of Durham County's systems. We didn't know what the new closing date would be, so John's moved our property into storage. It turned out that our closing date was moved out only one day :-( We had horrible service from the crew that brought the property to the new home. One of the guys told me that he had as substitute because the guy that showed up to work had a fever so they sent him home! Here are our major complaints with the move-in (March 2020): 1. The property was brought to the new home in a bunch of wooden crates on a flat-bed 2. I had all the boxes marked with the location they should be placed in the rooms .. that was ignored, so I had to carry many boxes up the stairs myself 3. Many pieces of furniture was damaged -- scrapes, digs, scratches, etc. I don't know if this happened on the move-out, storage, or move-in. 4. They planned to leave without putting together a very large and heavy bed. I had to plead with one of the guys to help me put it together! 5. They did not unpack any of the large pictures, mirrors, and TVs. They left them wrapped up in the moving blankets. They left 5 of their moving blankets behind! 6. There is at least one box missing, but it/they did not contain anything valuable 7. Most of the garment boxes were smashed and the clothes piled up on the bottom These are the major complaints. There are a bunch of minor problems not worthy of mentioning. I think it would have gone much better if they did not move the items off the truck and put into storage for one extra day. I should mention that the owner's son-in-law was present for the move-out and the move-in. We don't plan to move again in the foreseeable future, but if/when we do, we would never call John's Movers again. I definitely do NOT recommend this company. Their service in the past 4 years has dropped from "excellent" to "terrible." I also thought for several months about writing this review, so I am not doing it out of anger or trying to retaliate. It is an honest review. I hope it helps someone.

I was very pleased. Everyone I worked with in the office, the estimator who came to my house and the 3 movers were very courteous and professional and helpful. The 3 movers arrived on time at 9:00am. They were very careful with my belongings at both houses and worked nonstop until everything was loaded and unloaded. They smiled, were friendly, constantly checked with me all day to be sure where I wanted them to put items until the job was completed at 7:15pm. They did not try to rush even knowing they still had a 2 hour drive back to Raleigh that night. I would use this company and the 3 movers assigned to me again.

Response from John's Moving & Storage
"We have never moved anyone by this name (or with that last name). I respectfully ask that this review is removed from our page. As far as the cost of $500, that would be impossible as well if we did a full pack and moved them to Ann Arbor, Michigan."

They damaged several pieces of furniture. I paid extra for full coverage insurance and it has been almost 4 months and it is still not resolved. They sent someone out to "repair" some of the pieces and made it worst. They have not been responsive, I have to follow up every week and I continue to get the run around. Don't use them! They are careless and the follow through has been terrible.
Response from John's Moving & Storage
"I am so sorry that there was damage on your move. We did send our repair company to attempt to repair the damaged desk and it was not to Mrs. [Member Name Removed]'s satisfaction. On September 18th, 2017 we sent a check to the customer so she could buy a new desk. Again, we are very sorry this happened but we did in fact resolve the matter."

They were very unprofessional. They left things at the house we moved out of. They also damaged the elevator in the condo we moved into. There were several items that we found broken as well. It was very expensive for a local move.

John's Moving and Storage did an awesome job from start to finish. We were downsizing from a large house, and even though we got rid of a lot before the move, there was still a lot we were holding on to.Our team was Deon, Dennis and Elijah - these guys were super-strong, hard working, and they communicated well as they worked at getting our furniture navigated through some extremely difficult doorways (refrigerator) and stairways (king sized bed, and some big bedroom furniture). Deon did everything he could to make the moving experience the best it could be for us. He kept saying, and quot; We'll try it, and see if we can't get that up thereand quot; and I was surprised by how many pieces successfully reached the second floor! Dennis also has moving experience that shows. He was friendly and very competent. Elijah was quiet, strong, and a hard worker, too. They were courteous, helpful and supportive, and they obviously know how stressful moving can be for customers!

We selected John's because the company markets itself as being the preferred provider of our real estate agent, whom we liked. The moving team showed up on time (only 15 minutes late), were friendly, and each person appeared to be working diligently. We didn't have any meaningful complaints until they scratched our dining room table jamming it through the door. Their words. At that point everything changed. The moving crew was totally unapologetic. The representative at John's, Jessica, was curt and rude on the telephone, and completely unapologetic. The scratches on the table will be quite expensive to repair and we feel that they arose from uncustomary practices. Unfortunately we selected the basic insurance policy and so we will have to cover almost all of the cost to repair the table. Jessica was insolent and petulant with me on the phone, and she speculated that John would not be interested in helping us any further in covering the cost of the repair beyond the bare minimum covered by the policy we chose. I've never used a moving company before and next time I will select a better coverage plan. I will also ask the company its policy on jamming furniture through doorways, and I will absolutely NEVER work with John's again.

They are a really good company and John hires good people. You can tell all the employees are well trained with good attitudes. They don't often make mistakes, but if they do they let you know right away what happened. They're fast, courteous, and make moving more enjoyable than it usually is.

They were prompt for the estimate and professional. The gentleman who completed the estimate was very confident in his numbers. The team that moved us was good and they moved quickly most of the day. The moving out was paused for a lunch which we provided and packing the truck as our stuff barely fit. Unpacking was slower than we thought as well and we put most of our furniture back together including all of my sons room and our king size bed. The office staff was helpful when we wanted to add another TV to the move and we understood it would add another $150 to the cost. We also paid 2 days of storage. Our biggest disappointment was we went $1000 over budget!! I was floored when they presented the bill. The estimator was so confident is his estimate and boasted his years in the business, guess he's not that accurate after all. The bottom line: the movers were professional, they are all background and drug tested, and John's is fully licensed and insured. I will not use Johns again due to the incorrect estimate. My suggestion is you go with a company that will not charge you more that an additional10% of the original estimate.

They were an hour late because they went to the house we were moving INTO instead of the one we were moving out of! Beyond that, it all went very smoothly. The movers were very professional, polite and conscientious with the cargo. The office staff called several times before the move to answer any questions and to confirm times, etc. I would use them again.

Brent did our quote and his estimate was very accurate. The movers came on time and spent about 2 days packing. We took the replacement value insurance and were glad we did. Their rates are reasonable for this coverage. Despite our move taking place at the beginning of their busy season, they did a good job of packing everything. Given we were going into their climate controlled storage facility, they loaded our goods into containers which went directly into storage. This reduced the handling of our stuff which reduced the likelihood of loss or breakage. They also gave us 1 month free storage at the beginning of the storage period. At the end of the storage period, they charge for a full month, even though we used about 12 days. Apparently, this is fairly standard practice. The delivery date we wanted was kept as we requested. Even though they were a few hours late in arrival on the day, they finished the delivery that day. There were a couple of items that I had to put back together myself, but other than a bit of time this went well. The wear and tear on our goods was about what we expected and they made good on one item that was broken during shipment. Overall, compared to previous moves, we gave this move experience an A rating and would highly recommend John's moving

Good overall communication. Showed up on time with friendly movers and seemed to perform their work in a professional and efficient manner. No major issues/damages, although we did only use them for the larger and less fragile items.

It was better than we anticipated. A very professional team showed up very early, went straight to work, and completed the move well before the time estimated. We had no breakage, and only a single scratch on one piece of wooden furniture (and it was in an place that was not evident). It was the best move we ever had.

Almost all of our furniture had scratches or dents on it which we found very disconcerting given that all of this furniture had already been moved cross country twice and had remained scratch and dent free. The foot board on our custom bed frame was scraped on both posts, like it had been dragged across a rough surface, like a sidewalk and had ruined the posts. Our new oak floor in our kitchen was dinged and scratched by the furniture that was placed there. When confronted about the custom bed frame, the lead mover became contentious and left without reassembling the bed frame. They also took the screws necessary to complete the assembly. Overall the staff were discourteous and rude without much concern for our possessions. A sharp contrast from the other moving experiences we have had. We filed a complaint with the company and received a call from the owner who basically said that this wasn't the way they did business. We completed the paperwork for the ruined custom bed frame and were told over a period of a few months that someone would come to look at it and see if it could be repaired. When that never happened we followed up with the owner through several calls and left messages. The owner requested we send photos of the damaged furniture and finally mailed us a check for $54.00 based on the type of coverage we purchased.

Positive. Frank (sales person) is a nice guy who gave a thorough presentation of his quote and answered all questions without being rushed. Movers arrived on time, were professional, and worked efficiently. Took two-thirds as long as estimate. Negative. Morning of move, I was a presented with a disclaimer limiting responsibility to $50 per piece of composite wood self assembled furniture. This should have been mentioned during initial sales presentation. In the future, I will try to insist that all paperwork be presented with the initial quote. Although we were told we did not have to empty vertical files, movers insisted that we at least partially empty them. I have a problem with the idea, which is industry wide, of charging customers extra for insurance for damaged goods, i.e., insuring that the movers do the job they are being paid for.

John's Moving recently gave us an excellent move, and we are sincerely appreciative. They didn't break anything and had very courteous, professional workers. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to someone else. They were referred to us by our realtor. We didn't use a moving company the last time we moved, but we knew we needed one this time. We had some very heavy furniture and a lot of boxes.
