That only took 1 minute. Not sure why they made an issue of it. I literally just took a screwdriver and switched it.
Anyway, about 5 minutes later, they said they couldn't do the install because the pipe was blocking a nut they needed to access. After going back and forth for about 10 more minutes, they finally just left. They pushed the old washer back into place and it wouldn't close any more. So I had to run out and knock on their window for them to come in and fix that before they drove off.
So we were without a working dishwasher and I accepted the delivery since I didn't want to wait another week or so for a few other hacks to come do the same thing.
We ended up hiring a plumber (Michael & Sons) to come do the install. It cost me much more than the $79 Home Depot was charging, but at least the job was done.
The plumber from Michael & Sons says this happens all the time. They sub the work out so we don't really have anyone to yell at. I had to call 4 times to get a refund on the Home Depot install and then they rejected my review on their site.
So, needless to say, I won't be using their install services again.
Overall we were pleased; it just took much longer than we expected. The cabinets were delivered on June 17th and the backsplash was installed yesterday (August 12th). Installers were very good: professional, thorough, fast and for the most part dependable. There were some communication problems between us and some of the supervisors both at Home Depot and supervisors with some of the sub-contracting companies but it all got worked out. (There were times that it was difficult for us to believe that everyone understood that phones were meant to be used. Calls were sometimes not returned as promptly as we would have liked in some situations and other times not returned at all.) I truly believe if a person knew what was involved and how long it was going to take for such an extensive remodeling project, no one would ever decide to do it but we are very pleased with the final results.
I would like emphasis that installers (Eddie, Aaron, Gary P.) are outstanding in their line of work. Gary Rogers and Christina at the Knightdale Home Depot are the best. The design of our kitchen by Gary Rogers could have not been any more perfect and the cabinets are exactly what we wanted.
They came right on time and they were quick and very careful. It was a great experience.
The main problem was that Home Depot in our area relies entirely on the services of Aspirations Building Co for contracting. It is their only contractor for kitchens. As such he is overworked, and paid minimal attention to our job, relying on sub-contractors with virtually no communication between them to do the work.
At first we didn't notice this, because the cabinet guy worked with Home Depot replacing the parts we needed changed, and handled the measurements, demolition and eventual installation. As with any renovation there were a few issues (electrical, height issues due to previous home owners installing wood floors around rather than under the cabinets). We assumed that all of these were being communicated to the contractor, Chris, who would ensure that everyone was one the same page.
We had to ask Home Depot for his information, because they did not initially provide that information, which we found odd.
He didn't respond promptly to phone calls or emails. And never provided us with the timeline or checklist of services that we assumed existed somewhere.
Each subsequent contractor appeared on the scene only after WE contacted them directly having pried the information from Aspirations Building, and then with virtually no clue what they were there to do. More than once scheduled services had to be rescheduled and there were many possibly legitimate excuses, but it seemed like a business should have some mechanism to cope with illness and accidents and such, this one did not. When we did manage to schedule services, more than once the sub-contractors were only informed of the job that day, even if we scheduled a week out or more. Since Chris was the official and quot;Project Managerand quot; he did little or no managing, instead relying on us to do it. If we didn't call or harass him by email, it wouldn't happen.
The last piece came when there needed to be some adjustments made to the bar. There was no coordination or agreement about how that would be managed to accommodate our needs, and little interest in working with us. That was eventually settled, but only after going all the way up the chain of command at Home Depot to Store Manager. When the project was completed there was zero follow up from Home Depot or Aspirations Building.
By in large, we are satisfied with the end result, but it felt a lot more like a DIY project than we hoped for. We met with our Sales Person the first week of January. We were told 3 weeks to get the cabinets. 3 more weeks to order the countertops. Add in 2-3 weeks for various issues. Actual time, 4 months. Three times the estimate. Now some of that was because some cabinets needed to be returned and reordered (one was stained, one was mis-ordered on accident).
We will not use Home Depot again.
I recently took a shelf that I need screws for to mount on my wall.
The lady who helped me tried several items before finding the perfect one, but we found exactly what I needed.
Then there was the time that I needed toilets. I was looking and one of the clerks walking by told me about a rebate that the city offered. I ended up getting $200.00 back from the city due to a program they had! I spend much more overall, but she was very helpful!
Our only advice to others to ask about the edging process--and we wondered if a finer grained stone also might be less prone to machine edging problems
