As a locally-owned business focusing on residential landscape design, installation and construction, we provide each customer with a beautiful solution tailored to their individual needs. We listen to what you have to say about your property, and work hard to make sure that your results maximize your budget while pleasing your aesthetic senses. Good landscape design involves much more than placing trees, shrubs, and other plants on your property. It is an art which deals with a conscious arrangement and organization of outdoor spaces for human satisfaction and enjoyment. A good plan is essential to a successful landscape installation. It is comparable to handing off a set of detailed architect's drawings to your General Contractor. We start with an in-depth interview to determine how you envision using and enjoying your landscape. Next, we take a complete site inventory and analysis to determine project opportunities and constraints. We then incorporate all of these elements into a comprehensive plan that fits your home and lifestyle. A well-thought out design improves access to the various parts of your outdoor living spaces and actually increases additional living spaces by creating private places for relaxing. Fine Lines Landscaping will design and install a landscape that best complements the style and layout of your home. When done well, landscaping compliments and enhances the architectural style of your home and is a permanent capital improvement, adding not only aesthetics, but also value to the property. According to real estate appraisers, a well-designed landscape can add as much as 40 percent to a property's value. We have 3 full-time employees and several seasonal employees. We use subcontractors to provide irrigation, grading and bobcat work. We are registered with the NC Landscape Registration Board and have been assigned 1465 as our registration number. We do not charge any trip fees for work in Wake County and there is no charge for the initial visit. We offer very competitive general labor rates; sometimes $10.00 less per hour than other landscaping companies. We hired this firm to install an extensive landscape plan for our home. The owner met with us, seemed very knowledgeable and highlighted her extensive professional credentials. Her pricing was high relative to others we considered but we liked what she described as her approach (no subcontracting, her extensive knowledge and relationship with nurseries, her knowledge of native NC plants, that she was on-site at all times, etc). She walked through details of our plan and provided a comprehensive proposal (>$50,000). We determined to hire this firm and take the project in phases. What the owner portrays she will do and what she actually does are quite different. After we committed and provided an initial deposit it was weeks longer than she indicated before her crew started work. We were over billed for labor and materials on each invoice received during the project. When we pointed these out to the owner she apologized for her error(s) ("I was exhausted and wasn't paying attention."). Despite her guarantees on her work, within weeks of the initial project being completed we pointed out a small number of plants that were not as healthy-looking as the dozens of others she installed and we were repeatedly assured over the next several months that they would be fine despite my providing pictures that showed they were getting progressively worse. She indicated in numerous email communications that the plants would be replaced if they did not "make it". This fall it was clear they had not survived and when pressed on replacement she declined. We will not be continuing with this firm for the additional phases of our project and we would not recommend this company to others.

Our backyard has been transformed in a beautiful and tranquil respite. The landscaping staff are SUPER! They are the kindest and hardest working people we have ever met. They go beyond the call of duty and are so easy to work with. Wendy is very knowledgeable about plants and the mechanics of the landscape installation.

The provider was very nice, professional and punctual. We walked around our yard with the provider looking at our current landscaping. She made comments, but we didn't have any "take-aways." If we wanted any specific suggestions or a plan, that was going to be another appointment and additional cost. We didn't feel that we really got anything for our money, hence the "D" rating for Price.

Wendy surprised us by working us into her schedule two months earlier than we originally anticipated. She and her crew were prompt and professional arriving early every day and cleaning up carefully before leaving. Wendy discussed the options for the placement of the new plants and gracefully accommodated my last minute requests for changes. The end result is beautiful. I hope to be able to use Fine Lines to complete the remaing sections of my plan soon.

We had several turf, water, and landscaping issues that we needed advice on, and Wendy Kanable offered a service of a consultation for $50 that we decided to take advantage of. Wendy came at a scheduled time and we spent an hour looking at problem issues with our property's landscaping. She had many good suggestions for improvements that we could do ourselves, that we would need to get help from lawn care specialists to deal with, and some that she said her company could do at a later date, as they were booked solid at the time. We certainly got our $50 worth. Our only problem with Wendy was that later, when we repeatedly contacted her by phone voice mail or e-mail to determine if she could do some of the hardscaping we had discussed, we got absolutely no response. We have since implemented or are currently implementing most of her suggestions, but have gone to other businesses to get the work done. It seems the courtesy of a response and saying one is too busy to take on new work is not to much to ask of any business. It is for this reason that we have given this business less than a perfect mark on responsiveness and professionalism.

Wendy and her crew showed up the day of the job on time and got to work right away. They removed all the old shrubs, installed the new plantings and cleaned up. They did a wonderful job and my yard looks beautiful. I would recommend Wendy and would hire her again.

Wendy was immediately responsive when I first called for a major landscaping project at our home. She referred me to a landscape designer she works with, Cat Valand, who is awesome. Cat developed a wonderful and creative design that involved plantings for the sunny front yard and shady back yard and hardscaping. Wendy took meticulous measurements and developed a pricing proposal that was very detailed, including labor, stone, plants, mulch and irrigation. She takes time to give a precise estimate to avoid future surprizes, which I appreciate. Installation took place in two stages, early summer and mid-autumn to repect the best conditions needed for the plant. Our yard with its new stone walkways, retaining walls, and fabulous, healthy plants continues to receive compliments from our neighbors. Everyone working on the project has been extremely professional and conscientious. Workmanship on every aspect has been on the highest quality. There have been no problems whatsoever. The team has been punctual, responsive, honest, flexible, and totally wonderful to work with. My yard has been transformed.

They were very accommodating on scheduling a Friday appointment based on our schedule. She clearly knew a lot and had some examples of previous work they had performed.
Our backyard is full of large trees and we have no grass, just pine straw, so we were looking for suggestions of what to do and what to plant. A large concern for us was planting some fast growing privacy trees to go against our fence.
It took several weeks to get her proposal, which she was upfront about. Most of her recommendations were for hardscapes, hardwood mulch and some plants. The cost of the hardscapes far exceeded any investment we wanted to make. In her proposal she recommended removing some of the largest trees we had. I was open to removing some trees, but not the ones she recommended. The privacy tree recommendations for were partial sun trees/shrubs, which won't currently work, but would have worked had we been willing to remove the trees she suggested. In the end we came out with one type of plant that we could try to do against the fence, but not much else.

During our consultation you asked me to provide ideas and plant choices for 3-4 garden spaces in your front yard: the front foundation beds, the bed under the large maple tree, the bed at the driveway entrance, a new proposed bed near the mailbox and a bed midway up the right side of the driveway. I emailed you the planting suggestions and quantities on July 20th. I'm wondering if I missed something or if you did not get thst email. Please let me know if that is the case and I can forward you the original email."

Wendy was excellent and I'd happily recommend her services. I had two quotes from other contractors for almost $2500 to solve the same drainage issue. I will take part of the blame for the discrepancy because I thought I knew what needed to be done (short retaining wall with drain pipe and backfill) and asked for a proposal to install. However, I explained the actual problem (downspout causing a bed to wash out all over and across the sidewalk) to all three contractors and my question was, "The only thing I know to do is install a drain and put in a wall, do you have any other suggestions?" Wendy was the only one to say, "Well, yeah, here's what I'd try instead." Her first recommendation was the pipe from the downspout and the pop-up drain ($250). It helped, but the area still washed out so she then recommended the edging ($360). Voila! Everything is great and although a wall would have been prettier than the edging - I was happy to save the money!

She sat in her truck and drew up the design. She did a lovely job and we probably are going to go with that design. However, with her and other landscapers I have talked to, I am having a devil of a time having landscapers to come back. I think they have business coming out of their ears. She was very professional and I liked her a lot. I would have hired her, but I think they have so much business they can only do a certain amount. I used her because she was one of the top rated people and she also had done some work for a friend of mine several years ago. Her price was good and her punctuality was perfect. Her professionalism was also perfect.

We had called a couple of other providers, who never even came out to complete an estimate of the work (!!!).
By contrast, Wendy showed up on time, provided a very good quote for the work that needed to be done, and even accommodated our tight timeframe. Her team was meticulous, spreading exactly the way we wanted and cleaning up afterward - leaving only just the beautiful end result.

This meeting went well. We communicated through the messaging feature, which was very convenient as I was very busy. Some of the other businesses required phone calls, which are sometimes hard for me to make during business hours.
We met and walked around my backyard, which was my primary focus and because we have a very large lot. She was very humble and was quick to point out where she did not excel. By the time we were done, I had information about my trees, locations and contacts for potential hardscapes, had discussed lawn concerns and referral for that work, and options for plant material. She even helped me identify some challenging weeds and how to treat them. It would have cost me a great deal more in time to research many of these issues to determine who to call and what to ask for. This way, I could verify the referrals she provided for my specific issues and will start setting up appointments to tackle my wish list.

Wendy was early (fine by me) and gave me some good tips/information for some of the landscape issues I had; poor grass growth, bare spots, tree roots, water wash-outs, etc. In all, I felt I got good value for her time and advice. The only issue (and it's a minor one) was that I asked for an estimate from her for some of the work she recommended. She said she would provide me one by e-mail that weekend. It's been 10+ days, and I never got that estimate.

The work was scheduled while I was actually on vacation but I was very pleased with the results. Everything looked nice and as expected when I returned and all the debris had been removed. It's been so much easier to keep up since then!
