We hired Jim to put Everlast siding on our house, after reading positive reviews of Ellington Woodworks. We chose to go with Everlast Advanced Composite Siding for our siding project. When we first saw the j channels and trim on the front of the house, we assumed it was not finished. The edges were roughly cut, and the joints were not mitered; while the Everlast siding, itself, looked fine. We were so unhappy with the appearance and quality of the j channels and corners, that we sent Everlast a letter about it. They were so concerned, they sent a rep to our house, who informed us that it was not their product. They made inquiries and informed us that Jim got two quotes from Richard’s supply: one with Everlast corners and j channels, and one with cheaper, flimsy vinyl. Jim chose the vinyl without consulting us, no doubt to save himself money, in cost of materials. We never had a chance to get the right product for our house. Now, we are left with the inferior product, due to Jim’s decision not to inform. We are left to live with his poor judgement, or pay thousands of dollars, to correct for Jim’s witlessness and ineptitude. We wanted this project to be a one-time home improvement; with improvement being the key word. Instead, we are out several thousands of dollars and years of regret for our choice of Jim and Ellington Woodworks. Speaking of Jim’s ineptitude, he also hung shutters at different heights, leaving us with holes in the siding. All he had to do, was to look at how the other shutters were hung. So now we have additional holes in our siding, again thanks to his lack of basic carpentry skills. If you Google “carpentry skills,” you should see a list of several skills a carpenter should possess to be successful. Of those skills, Jim certainly displayed deficits with regard to Communication, Attention to detail, and Problem solving. He did not miter the window trim, and we are left with the “band aids” to cover up for the corners with the inferior product. He wasted thousands of dollars of our money by choosing an inferior product to mix with the Everlast. We would have gladly paid the difference to have better materials and are left, instead, with something that cannot be undone without paying 10,000 or more, thanks to Jim. He also damaged some corners of our windows, by smashing them, leaving holes open to the elements. He was extremely motivated to leave the project. The only way to correct for the Jim’s incompetence, is to pay thousands of dollars, where we already out of thousands of dollars that we will never recoup. We strongly do not recommend Ellington Woodworks. Our experience with Jim and Ellington Woodworks has left us with botched work, and anger and disappointment.

We hired Jim to remove and rebuild the rear deck on our house. We are beyond happy with it. Jim came by and had all the materials delivered well in advance so that the wood would be dried and ready for use once the construction started. Jim did an excellent job on both the demolition of the old deck and construction of the new deck. While demolishing the old deck, all materials removed were neatly put into a trash trailer each day, so the construction area was always safe. Once demolition was completed, Jim was able to get the construction of the new deck done very quickly. Jim applied sealer as he laid the decking so that we can expect long life out of the decking. All railings and steps were sanded and finished with no rough edges left to catch your hands. As an addition to the deck, we had Jim add LED lighting, which is makes the deck more usable at night. We really love it. Jim also was very good at keeping us informed on the construction progress expected for each day during the work. If there were changes in scheduling, he let us know immediately. In addition to the deck, we had Jim install new laundry room plantation doors in place of the old bi-fold doors on our laundry closet. Jim was able to quickly get the doors trimmed to size and hung correctly even with an opening that was a out of square. Having the new plantation doors in place of the old bi-fold doors is a real upgrade and they work great. I would recommend Jim without reservation for any construction project that you may have waiting on your house.

It went very well. His price was reasonable and competitive. He also saw that it would be helpful for me to have a ramp because of my long recovery after foot surgery. He asked me how I wanted it to look and then measured. He returned after a short time to bring the ramp. He made some final details to the ramp so that it would fit the area perfectly! He charged only for the materials!!! He made such a big difference in my life. I will never forget him!

The Ellingtons did a great job and we are very pleased with the results and process. The project was quite extensive and their work was meticulously undertaken with attention to detail and long lasting quality. No part of the job was rushed. In addition to the skylight installation, there was considerable carpentry work, internal ceiling renovations and changes, and roof repair. They would notify us the night before as to the time they would be arriving, and always showed up as planned. They also worked around my wife’s yoga teaching schedule by keeping noise to a minimum when required. They explained what they were doing every step of the way and what the next step would be. Finally, and of great importance to us, mess and dust were kept to a minimum and the room cleaned when they finished for the day. I would highly recommend them.

Jim came out exactly when he said he would for the estimate. He was also very good to coordinate the time to come out and do the work. He kept me in the loop as far as his other jobs were coming (he was helping folks fix their hurricane Matthew damage). Jim and his brother came out on the day and time that he said they would and they worked quickly and efficiently to get all of the work done. They replaced our skylight with an improved model and fixed the railings using treated lumber including sinking the main support in concrete. The work is great and I would not hesitate to call on Ellington Woodworks again.

My wife and I were told that we could not have a skylight in the master bathroom by another skylight installation company. Jim Ellington and his brother were able to install a beautiful Velux skylight to code.

Pro's:
  • My wife and I forgot to send the $300.00 owed after the installation was complete. Ellington Woodworks did not hound us for more than a month. We simply received an email reminding us to send the final payment, which we did.
  • Jim looked at and fixed a roof leak in the master bathroom area while they were here "at no cost!" I was quoted $350 by a roofing company for the same work. He said it was a simple fix that only took a few minutes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Con's:
  • Did not clean up the saw dust and wood scraps that were made when during framing of the skylight. I understand the master bath was a workzone but I did work as a carpenter and always cleaned up my mess after work every day. In the end.... Who cares. Jim and his brother rock!

Jim Ellington and his brother did an excellent job replacing our old skylights. They are very professional, personable and tidy. They used quality Velux skylights as our replacements and they look amazing. We also had them install blinds on our skylights and I love how they look. We are having them come back soon to install a new fireplace mantel we purchased. We would highly recommend Ellington Woodworks!!

Jim replaced an old plastic bubble skylight with a new velux skylight in my master bath.  The whole process went very smoothly and painlessly.  Jim came out to do an estimate within a couple of days of getting my request and came out to install the skylight within a couple of days after I decided.  His price was very competitive, he knew exactly what to do within a few minutes of seeing my skylight, he suggested other things I could do to improve my house (without pushing me to do them) and the work was done quickly and professionally.  Dealing with Jim was quite pleasant and I would recommend him to anyone needing skylight or roof work done.

It was really finished and it looked like my floor.  He made it look like furniture.  It was really beautiful.  He wouldn't even accept payment; we have forced him to.  He really is a very caring person and generous.  He is absolutely clean.  If you need skylights; he is the person.  He is a contractor.  He just saw that I was having trouble getting up the steps and he just did it out of kindness.  If you need any kind of woodworking done, give him a call.

We had an ongoing issue with one skylight leaking.  There have been at least 3 attempts to re-seal, caulk.   This company was very responsive and efficient.  I was able to send pictures of the skylight in advance.  Jim came out soon after to investigate.  He examined the skylights, the roof, and the water stains.  Found that the skylights in the house were not appropriate for that slope of roof.  The quote was reasonable and installation was promptly scheduled.  Included examining for damage that may require more carpentry work.   The two person team that came were efficient, professional, and nice.  Jim examined for damage and thank goodness no "extra" work was required.  The skylights were installed and area trimmed in and primed.  Could not have been happier with the entire exchange from initial contact, initial visit, and the installation!

Very well. He also cut in a hole to accommodate a vent. He checked the roof and repaired the flashing around numerous vents.

Our skylights began to leak and to nip this issue in the bud, we contracted Ellington Woodworks to come out and replace them. Mr. Ellington arrived around 8 am and left at 10:12 am.  He brought a thick painter's protection sheet to place on the ground beneath the ladder to minimize any debris coming from the ceiling while the skylights were being installed in my dining room. He mentioned that the existing skylights were a very early Velux model (FS106) and should have not been used given the particular slope of the roof.  The new ones that he installed were appropriate for our particular slope, featured neat glass coating that helps keep the glass clean, and UV protection.
There was some water damage to a wall near the skylights and I asked whether that was caused by the the leak in the skylights. He said that the two were unrelated and helped to fix the leak right then and there for an additional $75. He mentioned that if that solve does not work, then there would be more cost associated with the fix, but that he preferred a less invasive route at the onset.
Then, on top of that, he noticed that our front door was not shutting properly, and adjusted it at no additional charge.
I can see why he's rated so highly on Angie's list. We will definitely not hesitate to reach out in the future.

It went exactly as promised.  Everything was done in two days; the installation looks beautiful; they cleaned up inside and outside; and they were helpful in locating the documentation for the tax credit.

Work was efficient, professional; clean..did not know they were here; always able to contact easily. The only glitch was that, according to Jim Ellington, the supplier mistakenly did not process the order, causing work to be delayed; Jim stated that he now put in a process to prevent such occurrences.

John installed one new Velux skylight model FCM2246 and also replaced a few shingles that had been damaged by a previous contractor. John was prompt and professional in all communications with me. I will not hesitate to refer Ellington Woodworks to anyone needing exterior siding, roofs, or skylights. The process could not have gone better. Within the next two years I will be replacing the other two skylights and these guys will get my business.
