He told me what he thought the problem would likely be and the worst case if they had to pull the transmission to fix the leaks. He communicated clearly every step of the way. He and his son are great to work with and I'd take any of my cars back to them for service.

While they were not able to pinpoint the problem, they gave me some good advice on potential problems. Unlike ANY other shop I have used, they did not charge for the diagnosis. Strongly recommended.

I called a local AAMCO and the wanted $95 just to do a diagnostic on the car. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I did some research and Dauntless was well rated on Angie's List and Yelp. I called Gil and he was very upfront, willing to discuss price, wtc over the phone. He clearly knows his stuff. I took it in, Gil did a diagnostic (drive, on lift, etc.), and gave me an estimate. He identified the bad mounts and axle as well (I knew about the axle). I was headed out of town in two days and told him that I'd call him to schedule. The next day the tranny left me stuck in an intersection on the way home from work. I was able to get it home. The next day, while traveling, I called and left Gil a message asking if he could get my car at my house (I told him where he could find the key). He called me while I was in the air and we texted while I sat in the airport in Atlanta. Within an hour he sent me a pic of the car being driven to his shop. This all happened between Christmas and New Years. I picked up the car 1/3 (he had to wait a few days for parts because of the holidays). He did all the work (included the mounts and axle replacement) for the estimate he gave me on the phone. There's a followup visit in 30 days at which point the 12 month warranty starts. So, essentially, there's a 13 month warranty. I can't say enough good things about this experience. Gil is a real standup guy and a vet to boot!

THIS IS GUY (Gil) IS A RIP-OFF ARTIST. He charged me $295 for transmission flush where I found out that most shops charge only $175. He spent the whole time telling me how honest he is, so that I would believe that his pricing was legit.

This guy is a joke--STAY AWAY FROM THIS HIM! His name is Gil Gutierrez.

In addition, I found out, from a different mechanic, that my transmission does need to be rebuilt, so in addition to overcharging me, Gil sold me something I can't use because they have to trash all my new fluid in my transmission! I'm extremely disappointed and people like this should not be allowed to conduct business.

"Thank you [Member Name Removed], for your kind words. Just the facts please...You brought your Buick in asking me to beat a junkyard price you were quoted by a local shop in Fuquay-Varina 19 miles from my shop. I asked you to share your [Member Information Removed] trouble codes, so we could compare apples to apples. You confided that their in fact were NO DTC's. and if I would just ride with you, you would show me what your concerns were. Only after a trip on I-540 and through Brier Creek did you [Member Information Removed] apologizing to me about how miraculously, your vehicle would not act up. FIXED! you said "wow Gil you laid hands on my car and its fixed." Only then, did I suggest a service to remove and install new filter as I know a restricted filter can cause some unusual problems, You sir, were embarased, that you had wasted my time, "here to serve" I responded, You reap what you sow. We then proceeded to remove your transmission pan, replace your filter and replace your transmission fluid. As per our procedure, we engrave mileage and date in every pan we service, Never did we discuss a flush , as I cannot offer that service, due to lack of machine to flush with, we still do it the proper way. More entailed, but also more efficient. I do not apologize for anything we did, as I had your best interest at heart when I serviced your vehicle.....How easy is it to condemn a transmission and then replace it with a junkyard transmission for 2800.00.... A NO BRAINER RIGHT? However I am a rebuilding facility!!! I did not take advantage of you,, but I am sure someone will soon, Good Luck with that. I call them as I see them. Yeah, I am Honest to a FAULT...Good Day Sir...... Gil"

I called Dauntless and spoke with Gil when I had the transmission alert on my truck. I worked with him to have the truck towed to his shop. I am a very busy manager and dad, and Gil worked with me via phone, text message (along with pictures) to keep me up to date with his research and diagnosis. Based on previous reviews on Angie's list, I felt that Gil and his team are trust worthy. I picked up my truck today (3/30/2016) and he asked that I drive it for 200 miles or so and bring it back for them to check for leaks etc. and then my 12,000 mile 12 month warranty will start. So far so good and I really appreciate a trust worthy business that busy professionals can do business with. Parts and labor cost $2677. This is less than what I saw online that other 2004 Ford truck drivers had to pay for the same type of work.

I was extremely happy with the service I got. One of my least favorite businesses to deal with are transmission companies and even car dealers. I have had problems with, in the past where they said I needed a new transmission. I took it somewhere else and they repaired it for $15 and the transmission worked for years after that. I am happy that Angie’s List was available and I read a lot of good reviews before I took the car in. I was very happy with what they did. They could have told me that I needed a new transmission but they didn’t. They found a solution to repair it. It was not cheap but it was not nearly the cost of a new transmission. It is working now. They told me what needed to be done and they did it. I think their price was fair for what they did. They drained the transmission and refilled it 3 times. It is $45 each time for the transmission fluid, plus labor of driving it and getting the temperature up between each time they drained it. They drained it and refilled it again. So the labor was a big part of the cost but I think it was a fair price. The car works and they did well. I called them ahead of time and made an appointment. They were ready for me when I got there. It took them 45 minutes to road test the car, put it up on the rack and check it out visually. They told me what they thought was wrong with it, what repair needs to be done and the cost. They were correct in all of those. They knew what they were doing.

I have a 2005 Honda Civic with 120K miles.  The transmission seemed to be slipping.  When I arrived on-site I described what I was experiencing and we look a road test.  Gil was very thorough in explaining what he was looking for and what he observed. Our road test was 45 minutes.  He said he didn't think it was too late to save my transmission.  He suggested changing the fluid and seeing if the situation improved.  I agreed it was worth a try.  He showed me the color of my fluid - it was black/purple when it should've been red.  I took it for drive and it did shift better.  Within the next 3 weeks, I had the fluid changed another 2 times and the car has been running much better.
When I asked why he suggested changing the fluid 3 times he explained that each time the fluid is drained, only ~3 quarts comes out.  The transmission has ~9 quart of fluid in it so we are only diluting each time we replace the fluid.

Dauntless Transmissions replaced the transmission in my truck close to a year ago.  The original agreement was that he was going to rebuild it but he found problems with reusing the old unit.  He went ahead and got me a case at no additional cost.  I recently took the truck back to have it serviced due to a reverse issue.  They went above and beyond standing by their warranty.  He found that frayed wires leading to the transmission were causing shifting issues.  He not only repaired the wires but he removed the transmission, opened it up and installed a new improvement to correct common reverse issues for this year of GMC transmission.
Being a small business owner like Gil (the owner of Dauntless), I felt obligated to try to pay him something to cover his costs for the "extra" work he had done.  He refused and would not take the money saying that he just wanted to keep me as a satisfied customer!
I highly recommend my transmission specialists at Dauntless Transmissions.

Quite well.  I originally got a quote from him for rebuilding the transmission.  He told me that it was based on the assumption that nothing unusual was wrong inside the transmission, but that he could not tell that without opening it up.  I had the car delivered to him.  And he did some initial tests on it.  He indicated that he felt that there was a problem with 3rd gear, but that it might possibly survive for some short period of time without any major work.  He also warned that eventually, it would go out.  I was convinced, based on my own experience with the car, that his view was accurate.  He did tear it down and found plenty of g*** from worn clutches inside.  He said that the mess had clogged an internal filter, causing fluid flow blockage to major components inside.  He took photos of the defective parts and the mess clogging things up and sent them to me.  He rebuilt the transmission and was done days before I thought he would be.  He also added an external filter and a separate transmission fluid cooling heat exchanger.  This was to guard against the possibility of more unobservable contamination still being inside the original cooling system in the radiator.  The only way to know it's clean is to tear it open, destroying it.
There were a few minor hiccups in the process.  When I came to pick up the vehicle I took it for a test drive.  The transmission worked fine, but I noticed that it pulled quite noticeably to the right.  He had sent someone from his family out to let me  pick up the car on a Sunday.  Since he was not there to discuss it (He was quite sick that day and could not meet me there.)  I left the car there for him to resolve the steering problem.  I spoke to him the next day.  He said that removing the transmission requires disassembling much of the front end, requiring a realignment.  It was built into the quote, but they had just forgotten to do it.  He had it realigned that day.  I returned to pick it up at about 7:30 that night.  He met me there.  The test drive proved that the steering problem had been resolved.  I noticed that there were a three retention clips missing from the plastic shrouds in the engine compartment.  He found two and replaced them immediately.  He offered to drive out to where I work the next day to replace the third.  I told him that I thought I had some at home and would take care of it myself since they were so inexpensive.
The final price was notably higher than the initial bid, but it was because of his having to replace components inside the transmission which were abnormally worn or burnt.  Since he told me up front that it's not uncommon to run into additional expenses once the transmission is opened, I did not feel it was unwarranted.  I had had a transmission rebuilt by another garage on a different vehicle.  The same thing happened there as well.

First off, they're a full service mechanic and not just for transmissions.  This is a great mechanic for those of us who don't know much about cars.  After having this guy as your mechanic for a while, you will.  I originally went to Dauntless because I was advised by the dealer to get a mechanical flush of my transmission fluid.  I read conflicting views about this type of flush possibly doing more harm than good, so decided to consult a transmission specialist.  The service at Dauntless was top notch.  I got stuck in a traffic jam and arrived a half hour late, but they still spent a lot of time with both me and my car, and I never felt rushed. Gil's son Max test drove my car with me, and when he checked my transmission fluid, he educated me about what we were seeing.  I was only expecting a transmission fluid flush, but they put the car on the lift and checked it over thoroughly.  Gil then offered to let me see the underside of the car, so he could point out an area that will most likely need repairs within the next year or two.  He advised me about what signs to look for when I do eventually need repairs, and gave me advice about how to hold off the repairs for as long as possible.  (The advice was to buy new tires, which doesn't make Gil any money at all.)  If there was something I didn't understand, Gil explained it until I did, and showed me examples of parts we couldn't easily see to demonstrate how everything works.  This is a good solid family run business.  Everyone I dealt with was patient, articulate and methodical.  They have an energy and enthusiasm for their work that I personally have never experienced with an automechanic before.  I'm used to dropping off my car with a service rep and not seeing it again until the mystery man behind the curtain is done with it.  At Dauntless I was standing side-by-side with the mechanics, seeing what they were seeing, and my questions were encouraged.  Gil is a real character and is very entertaining, but I've no doubt that he'll cry along with you if he has to deliver bad news about your car.  I do feel that he would do everything in his power to avoid costing you more money than is absolutely necessary.  He takes far too much pride in the business he has built to do otherwise.  I can't imagine being treated better if I were the man's own daughter.  Definitely recommended!
