UPDATE (4/14/2014): Terrible working conditions. Cold. It snowed. Mud that oozed over the installer's shoes. I warned my contact at the office. When I told her that I had a steep grade & required ramp length & angle flexibility, my salesperson assured me it could and would be done. At an extra, to-be-determined price. When I brought to the installer's attention that a 6" (or more) drop at the end of ramp 1 was unacceptable, he became angry and defensive. After an argument, and refusing my offer to run out and purchase the needed materials, he patched together an extension so that the ramp at least reached the ground. I protested the steep angle. Per the installer, he was never informed of my requirements and he had X materials and limited time to complete the job in order to turn a reasonable profit. He stated he wasn't sure he had enough materials to complete ramp 2. I told him I didn't care how it looked, just do it. My mistake. It looks awful. Apparently, he didn't want to carry the materials to the site (every contactor I've had has not had that problem), so he asked if he could back his trailer into the side yard. I agreed. Another mistake. There are very deep tire tracks due to the muddy conditions, one of which is on my neighbor's property. He never offered to fix them, so I am stuck with the job. He installed 2 cheaply made handles on the doors which are keyed differently. I have to replace them because, in addition to the inconvenience of 2 separate keys, the handles can be easily removed with a screwdriver. I had to have ramp 1 removed completely and rebuilt so I could use the door opening in the manner that I told the salesperson. I am still working on an acceptable solution to the door handles and tire tracks. To give credit where it is due, the installer helped me with door placement, canted ramp 2 without further argument, and recommended an excellent painter that I would use again and recommend to others.
He called when he was about to leave the shop just to go over the selection and make sure he had the right materials. He showed up (1 guy) and built the whole thing by himself. Unbelievable! He worked like no one I've seen and it came out perfect. They didn't charge me anything until he was done.
I think I got the best building for any money and would definitely use them again.
I met Rob at the Southern Home show and explained what I needed done. I had all the measurements with me. He explained that if all the information I had matched exactly what need to be done he could give me a price. The price sounded good and I asked him how soon he could do the work. He replied the following Saturday would work for him. I explained that I might have some business to take care of and might not be home, he said that would not be a problem. He said he would stop by during to week to check the exact placement, which he did.
Rob and his helper Scott showed up on time Saturday morning and started work right away. I had to run some errands and left the house. I got back several hours later, Rob and Scott were gone. There was no trace of what had happened except I had a beautiful fence in my backyard. NO mess, NO scraps, NO damage to lawn or bushes. It was as if magic was performed.
Rob was terrific to work with, extremely pleasant, and did a great job!!!!
I will call him again!!!
