There cannot be a better way to buy a house beside using a Buyer's Agent, an in particular, Barbara Gressens of Buyers Advantage Group. A listing agent is bound to watch out for the interests of the seller, no matter who retains them. But a buyers agent is 100% on YOUR side. In addition to being a knowledgeable, professional agent, Barbara has worked in the house building sector before, and as we looked at houses, she was in the attic, crawling in the crawlspace, and generally could point out all kind of details about the physical condition of the home. We started looking right after New Years 2009, and closed on a house on April 30, 2009. There were times when the ad looked great (don't they all) but Barbara took one look at the house and tell us to "run away." We had an idea of what we wanted when we started looking, but Barbara helped us refine our parameters, and in the end, the house we bought was not from a listing we found, but one Barbara suggested to us. And through the offer, inspection and closing, she was right there. The day of the closing, some repair items had not been addressed. They were small things, not what I would consider "deal killers," but Barbara spoke to the seller and his agent, and rather than delay the closing, she got the seller to pay us some cash so we could get down to the business of moving. We are hoping to find some land and build our retirement home a few years up the road, and there is not a doubt in my mind that we will call Buyers Advantage Group when we're ready.
