Bond Roofing
About us
We've all heard all the buzzwords about how people do business, or at least claim to: "Personal service", "attention to detail, or "hands-on". My question is if there is any other way to run a successful business? Sure, Bond Roofing provides all of these, if we didn't we would not continue to grow as a business. From the beginning, we'll sit down to discuss your questions and concerns, determine what your current or planned roofing system needs, and offer a proposal, if you so choose. And yes, it's a proposal, not an estimate, because the price you get is the price, not an estimate of one. Certainly, there are unknowns from time to time, but those will be addressed before any work is done and you will know what to expect. It seems communication has always been somewhat lacking in the construction and home improvement business. It's something we try to do very well. We'll communicate with you every step of the way, from the initial inspection, to the product selection, and through the scheduling and the final inspection.

The low bid was for $10,800, the high bid was $15,500, and the Bond Roof bid was $12,500.
(all three vendors quoted approximately 40 to 43 squares of roofing (4,000 to 4,300 square feet).
I didn't choose the low bidder as their estimator/sales person was very "pushy" and kept saying that they didn't agree with the manufacturer's instructions on how to install the shingles.
I told Bond that I chose them and they called back within the week to schedule the job.
They called mid-day on a Friday and said that they wanted to start the next Monday morning, and I agreed to that.
I was expecting a truck load of supplies to arrive over the weekend, but none did...(neither had a dumpster for the old shingles).
On Monday morning, at 7:45 AM the job supervisor arrived and was surprised that the supplies had not been delivered.
He also said that the work crew's truck had broken down in North Raleigh (i'm in South Raleigh) and that he would get them,
and that he would check on the supplies.
The dumpster was delivered at 8:45 AM.
To make a long story short, the supplies were finally delivered at 1:30 PM, but the work crew never made it on Monday.
The supervisor called at 1:30 PM to tell me that they were still waiting for the truck to be repaired and that he would call me back within an hour to update their status. He finally called at 3:30 PM to say that they would wait until Tuesday...
On Tuesday the crew arrived at 8 AM and worked until 6:30 PM (very dark) (including a lunch break).
On Wednesday the crew arrived at 8 AM and worked until lunch. Rain was being forecast for that afternoon so they spent late morning getting the exposed areas covered for the rain. It started raining about 2 PM and there were no leaks.
It rained all Thursday (still no leaks).
Friday they worked from 8 AM to 6:30 PM. They asked if they could work on Saturday and I agreed.
Saturday they worked from 8 AM to 6:30 PM.
On Sunday afternoon a couple of the workers showed up and did clean-up for about 4 hours (picking up nails and shingle fragments that had not landed on the tarps that they used to catch debris).
On Sunday one of my cars had the "tire pressure" warning go off and I found a roofing nail in the sidewall of the tread (more on this later).
On Monday the crew started at 8 AM and finished the roof and clean-up at 3 PM.
On Tuesday the supervisor came by to inspect the site and haul off any leftover items that I didn't want. I mentioned the flat tire and he said to send in a copy of the receipt with the bill payment and that they would take care of it.
The bill came via e-mail on Wednesday, and I sent the payment in with a copy of the tire bill (the old tire couldn't be fixed and had to be replaced)(a total of $170). A week later I received the check for the full amount of the tire replacement.
My overall review:
The work crew did a very good job. The only issue that I have noted is that they used some brown aluminum flashing that had a clear plastic film on it to protect it from being scratched, and they forgot to peel the film off of it, so in certain light the flashing looks "shiny". They did a great job on the step flashing (where the roof hits the siding or brick) and edges.
On the first day, the supervisor would tell me that he would call back in an hour with an update on the status of the work crew and supplies, but it would be 2 to 3 hours before he would call back. His should have been more prompt in calling back.
So the work crew gets an "A" grade, the supervisor a "B", the office a "A" (for the tire payment).
Overall, I'll give them an "A-".
Would I hire them again: Yes
We decided on Bond Roofing for the following reasons:
- 1) Jeff beat the lowest price that any of the high volume/low attention to detail "storm chasers" gave us;
- 2) they're a local company that's been in Raleigh for decades;
- 3) they take their time and pay attention to detail (it took two days to do our roof, while the "storm chasers" only spend a day);
- 4) they hand nail all of the shingles, where others use nail guns that can shift shingles and cause ripples and gaps; and
MOST IMPORATNLY
5) CLEAN DEMOLITION/CLEAN-UP - they use tarps to make sure nails and other debris aren't left behind.
Clean demolition was a MUST on our list. We have a dog and a 19 month old child, so the thought of random nails in the yard really scared us. We were lucky enough to see they type of demolition that other companies use. Our neighbor used one of the "storm chaser" companies, who did not use tarps and basically just swept up all their mulch as their clean-up process. They got nails in his A/C unit, and it makes an awful noise now. His contract says that he'll have to pay for their legal costs if he ever takes them to court. It hasn't died yet, but when it does it's going to be a mess when he tries to get them to pay for it.
Jeff's crew did a very thorough job and the roof looks great. On top of the top-notch job they did, Ryan, the project manager for our roof was nice enough to help me unhook our stove from the gas line. We were having appliances delivered the same day, and there was no way that I would have gotten that thing unhooked without his help. He was happy to help. You'll not be disappointed if you decide on Bond Roofing.
performed repairs. Let us know that we can get 4-5 more years out of roof, instead of telling us we'll need a new roof.
