4 guys moved me. The head guy kept pulling me off to the side saying he would take care of everything, especially if I treated them all to a nice lunch and tip. Was very sly and sneaky. Insisted I not help take boxes down to the truck. Noticed mucky later he was down at the truck most of the unloading. Now I know why. He went rummaging through my things.
When I called the company all he seemed concerned about was me signing a waiver to not sue!
Horrible experience. I have moved quite a bit by at rosa with no problems. Should have not listened to another person!!!
Our initial interactions with All My Sons actually went relatively smoothly. The guy who came out to give us an estimate seemed thorough and professional, and the estimate (for both packing and moving) came in lower than any of the others we received. The move-out job was estimated to take 9 hours, and I specifically asked whether that included both packing AND loading the truck, and whether we needed to set aside 2 days. I was told that the 9 hours was for both packing and loading.
On the day we were scheduled to move out, a crew of 3 movers showed up and began packing. After a couple hours, it became clear that they were behind schedule, and they started calling the office to request more movers. My husband also called to request more guys, especially as evening came and only one story of our two-story townhome was packed up. We were told that there were no more movers available. The original movers kept packing throughout the night, and the job was not completed until the following morning, almost 22 hours after they had begun.
Not only did this create an extremely stressful situation, but it also meant that we did not have time to clean the house before our buyer did her final walk-through, and it also meant that many of our items were packed extremely poorly, in some cases literally thrown into boxes with no packing paper or packing materials of any kind. This resulted in a very large number of broken and damaged items, as we discovered when we moved into our new house a week later and began unpacking our things.
After 6 days of storing our items, All My Sons came to our new home to unload our belongings and reassemble our furniture. They did send more movers this time, and the job was completed by later that same evening. However, as our furniture was brought in, we noticed scrapes and scratches on a number of pieces that had definitely not been there before. Several smaller bookshelves were cracked and broken. As we opened boxes and began unpacking our belongings, we found many broken items, including a number of irreplaceable things that we had either received as wedding gifts or acquired together overseas.
During previous moves, we have had perhaps 1 or 2 (and in some cases, zero) items damaged. In this move, we had over 30 items damaged. In addition, there was massive evidence of incompetent packing, which was no doubt made worse as the original crew of movers ran out of time and started rushing to complete the job. Many items, including an expensive printer, a small TV, and framed pictures, were put into boxes with literally no paper, bubble wrap, or packing materials of any kind. Fragile items were thrown together, loose and unwrapped, alongside bare screws. My wedding dress and my husband's suits were at the bottom of two different boxes, crumpled beneath clothes, blankets, and shoes, instead of being hung in wardrobe boxes like much of our other clothing.
Most inexplicable is the fact that, after going through all our boxes, we are still missing at least 3 separate groups of items--clothing (including several pairs of expensive designer jeans), an entire bookshelf's worth of children's books (the bookshelf did arrive broken and cracked, but the books are nowhere to be found), and a box of items from our pantry. When we called to ask about the missing items, we were told that there were no boxes of ours left in the warehouse, and that the warehouse manager had personally supervised the unloading and reloading of our crates into and out of the warehouse. They have no explanation for where our missing items might be or how they could have disappeared.
For this move, we went with the standard basic insurance coverage (maximum of 60 cents per pound of damaged/missing items), thinking that our belongings should be safe considering the fact that we were moving only a few miles away and storing our items for only a few days. Now that so many of our items have been damaged or lost/stolen, we will need to submit a claim to recover a little bit of the money we will need to spend in order to repair and replace our belongings. We just discovered that this process will require us to sign a notarized form stating, among other things, that after accepting settlement of our claim, we will not make "verbally or in writing, any negative or derogatory remarks about All My Sons or its employees." This feels manipulative and only adds to the negative experience we have had with All My Sons throughout our moving process.
In conclusion, our experience with All My Sons Moving & Storage was truly terrible, and we would NOT recommend their services to anybody.
Once they were finished unloading the trucks (cigarettes in hand and dropping F-bombs loudly) we were asked for a tip. When I explained that I will not be providing one based on their service, the driver argued about it. We also had to chase them down after we discovered that one of the guys had "accidentally" kept a Kershaw knife we let him borrow to check box contents during the move.
As we began unpack our boxes we discovered MANY fragile/valuable items were packed unsafely, TONS of items were packed in the wrong boxes and since NONE of the boxes were labeled AT ALL, this has made unpacking a total nightmare. We had to put many items in storage with this move, and I made a point to meticulously label all items in the house that were to be put in boxes or wrapped for storage. Despite clearly labeled items and us explaining this to the men, all of this information was ignored, and items that were not supposed to be stored were in boxes with storage items and vice versa.
All of these issue could have been overlooked with a roll of the eyes and a comment that moving is a nightmare...until we discovered that many items were stolen from us prior to unloading. So far we have discovered that my husband's dart board was stolen, along with 2 sets of darts. We know they were not simply "mispacked" because the thief had to get into a metal box that stored the darts and took 7 of the 12 darts & the dart board. We are also missing a stereo & speakers.
My professional set of Calphalon pots and pans were also taken, not sure why they would want them I can't imagine they are worth much used...but having to replace them will cost at least $1000. We are still unpacking and hope this is the worst of it.
We are reaching out to the management office tomorrow to seek resolution and I will update this review once we find out what they plan to do rectify the mess we are dealing with.
Needless to say I feel violated that a company we trusted to help us with one of life's most stressful events made it a horrific experience for us. We selected this company because they are a family company and endorsed by UNC, I'm really disappointed in our experience with All My Sons Moving & Storage, Raleigh NC
UPDATE: We found out what happened to our items and reached an agreement with the management. Management advised that 2 of their movers stated the items taken from our home were gifted to them by us and they no longer had the items in their possession. While this is NOT what happened (We had no idea that one of our stereos had been taken until the mover told his boss we had given it to him!); I have changed my grade for "responsiveness" based on management's willingness to provide us the reasonable replacement fee for the items taken from our home. We received the check in the mail yesterday. While we would not use or recommend All My Sons Moving and Storage, Raleigh NC, I am thankful that the management was willing to offer an amicable resolution without a lot of discord.
Kareem and his crew did an amazing job and made this stressful move go very smoothly for me. They are skilled, cheerful, and fast, but not too fast as they were very careful with all my things. They were great with the unloading and helped me get everything placed properly.
This company is very straightforward with their pricing and does not add on a lot of extras. Their estimate beat the two others that I received for the move. They use smaller trucks and in most cases, I believe, only your things are loaded on it.
I definitely recommend them, but must add that their office personnel are very rude and not helpful at all. I was quite worried as my moving date approached because I had not been able to get questions answered or any type of reassurance that things would go as I expected. Thankfully, it all did go very well.
In addition, they came out prior to appraise the move and gave us a "maximum cost" guarantee. The team came in $50 under the maximum.
A friend referred them to me after a similar move and I would highly recommend All My Sons to anyone who is moving.
