"I have reached out to this client several times, twice by email, and once by phone, with no response. We did have an issue with the shower door not being what was expected, but the rest of the project went well, and looks great. Below is the first email I sent to the customer asking for clarification of their remarks in the review. Hi [Member Name Removed] and Alice, I have read your Angie's List review of our work on your project. I'm disappointed that we were not able to complete the project to your satisfaction. I will be responding to your review on the Angie's List website but I wanted to email you first and get some clarification on your remarks. You mention "inferior materials were used". Which materials are you referring to? Are you having problems with anything we installed? Is the shower not preforming as it should? We installed tile, plumbing fixture and vinyl trim pieces that you provided. The rest of the materials, 2x4s, tile backer board, and thin set were all industry standard items that we have been using for years without issue. If you could clarify that would be great. We had a discussion about the vinyl trim pieces that fell off during the demo phase of the project. I told you that it looked like they were not installed very well by the home builder. At our first meeting about the project I mentioned that I would like to remove the knee walls completely and make the new glass full height. You declined this option. Then I mentioned removing the vinyl trim on the front of the shower and installing tile. You declined this option as well. That left us with keeping the vinyl trim as it was. As we demoed the existing shower, a good number of pieces came loose and fell off. You provided me with new trim pieces to install, which I did with glue designed for vinyl trim. You should have no trouble with the trim pieces I installed. I will gladly refund you the $165.00 I charged you for the installation. You said that the price for the shower glass was "out of line". Did you get other quotes to compare my price to? You agreed to the contract price of $2450.00, and never mentioned to me an issue you were having with this price. Can you clarify please? I agree that the shower door did not come in the way I had assumed it would. It was my impression that the door would not have a metal frame around it. I must not have made that clear to the glass vendor when they measured and quoted the job. Or maybe I wasn't asking the right questions. I'm sorry the glass didn't turn out the way either of us had intended. Your final comment on the review concerns me greatly. You say that we were trying to "get well". You even put it in quotes. What exactly are you referring to here? As I said above, I will be responding to your review but wanted to get some more information from your first. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, Jonathan Doering"
"Thank you for your review. Back when this work was completed, June 2014, I allowed my customers to [Member Information Removed] the discussion about permitting their projects. Some wanted permits, some didn't. If the customer didn't ask, I wouldn't bring it up either. I see now how that was the wrong approach, and how costly it can be for them. It is now my company policy to discuss the entire permitting and inspections process with each client at our initial meeting, and let them make the decision to get a permit or not. In some cases permits are needed, and in some cases not. I'm sorry we didn't have a better outcome on your project. I am using this as a learning experience and plan on doing better in the future. I wish you all the best. Jonathan Doering."
