Worst experience EVER! My husband and I hired Gordon Smith to repair our hot tub and we got scammed. He showed up, gave us an estimate to repair the hot tub and order a new cover. We didn't know anything about hot tubs and trusted that he would complete the job. It was excuse after excuse from that point on (car accidents, sick mother, bad knee, stolen car, etc), he showed up twice and left to get more parts each time. The work was never completed and I (stupidly) paid him in full for the job. DO NOT USE HIM, I had to hire another company and pay over $1600 to fix his work. We also did a background check and found out that he has been in jail, has numerous charges against him (fraud mainly) , a suspended license, and arrested several times. We tried calling the police but they told us we would have to sue him civilly.

I couldn't disagree with the other reviews more. I called Gordon when I was selling my house and Sundance had the buyers convinced the hot tub needed $800 in repairs. Gordon came out for no charge, made 2 small repairs, verified that Sundance was completely wrong and charged me $10. I doubt that even covered his gas. Gordon saved me almost $800. He is one of a very few state-certified hot tub technicians, and the only one in this area. I would use him again absolutely.

This has been a nightmare! Gordon Smith (formerly Dr. Hot Tub in Wilmington, NC) spun lie after lie in servicing our hot tub. After I fell for most of them and wrote two checks for materials and service, Smith never answered my phone calls (6 to be exact). I had no idea when he'd return, if my hot tub materials were ordered, etc. After reading numerous other reviews on the Internet, I quickly realized I had been scammed (and wasn't the first he's done this to). Smith was head of the former Dr. Hot Tub company in Wilmington (NC) where a WWAY Troubleshooter report aired on local TV about this same scam in June 2010. A warrant was put out for his arrest at that time. This was a follow-up story to another done in May 2009 on Smith.
Fast forward to Above the Rest Hot Tub and Pool Repair in Raleigh, NC. Same story, new company name. Unfortunately, same crook behind the scenes.
Needless to say, avoid dealing with this man.
