Josh Wise did appear for an estimate and I did receive an estimate, although delayed by several days. After agreeing on several details and a schedule, I never heard from him again.

After about a week, I called him again to see if he had received my email. I asked him to call me back if he had not. I never heard from him again. If he couldn't do the job, I would have appreciated him at least telling me that.

Josh fixed our "punch" list of about 20 items that we had ignored for about 3 years. He built a shelf for our TV, finished off the tops of a couple of bookcases, finished the trim around our dishwasher, patched a spot on our roof, stained an audio cabinet, painted a couple of doors, fixed a skylight, shortened some blinds and performed other smaller repairs. He knocked out the entire list in approximately 2 and a half days. He was always courteous and 100% professional. He didn't try to drag a task out just to make a buck and came up with a few solutions that actually saved us money on materials. I would absolutely hire him again and will recommend him to my friends.

It was excellent work and they did it for an excellent price. He was very slow to respond to my phone calls and to coming over. I asked him to come back to do some more work on the fence, but he hasn't come back. He did excellent work, but he seamed very overworked.

Josh warned me on the phone that he'd be tied up for a couple weeks before he could do the work. This was fine as the work has needed doing since we bought this fixer-upper last Fall. I asked him to come out and quote the work and liked him immediately. We agreed on which projects to do now (I have plenty more) and the pricing and what materials I would provide: the door unit, a door frame package, the siding, and paint. He explained just what look for and what sizes to purchase. He called asking if Monday and Tuesday of the third week out would be OK and I arranged to work at home those days and agreed. He arrived on time with one helper and despite the awful heat (each day over 100) they completed all of the agreed projects in a timely manner. The work appears professional and I am very satisfied with the value. When I noticed some missing nails and minor gaps in the caulking he wanted to come out even though I simply planned to do it myself - it was minor. Josh came and tidied those little things up which says a lot for his company!

IF THE MEMBER RESPONDED TO MY LAST EMAIL (THE LAST EMAIL I HAVE RECORDED IS ME ASKING FOR THE ADDRESS AND WHEN A GOOD TIME TO COME OUT WOULD BE), THEN IT WENT TO MY SPAM FOLDER, AND I NEVER SAW IT. Josh was friendly, communicative and got all of the tasks done in one day. He checked in with me if I he had any questions or concerns. I am happy with most of his work. However, the kitchen light he installed has not worked for more than 6 months. I have exchanged a few emails and phone conversations with promises from Josh to get right back with me to schedule a date to repair the light, but then I never hear from. I am fed up and frustrated. I am hoping that by posting this negative report, I will get a response.

"Back in early December, this member sent me an email telling me the light was not working. I PROMPTLY responded, but did not hear back from her for a few weeks, at which time I emailed her again to see if she still needed the light fixed. She said she had been busy, and she would get back to me soon. At the end of February she contacted me to say she was ready to have the light fixed. Unfortunately, Doug, the electrician, was no longer working for me at this point. I tried to schedule a time for Doug to get out to her place, but with his current work commitments, I was unable to coordinate this. The $70 charge was Doug's charge, I did not make any money off of the light installation, and legally, since I am not a licensed electrician, I cannot do that work. I told her this, but she has still chosen to take this action, which is her prerogative. That said, if the member had been available back in early December, this would have been rectified long ago. I feel like she should take some responsibility for this - if she needed it fixed, she should have made time for it immediately when it was not working. Since the $70 charge was not my charge, I am not in a position to refund her any money. Also, Doug does his own work now - and I can't get him out there to fix the light. I am highly doubtful that the light was improperly installed, as it was a simple light installation from an experienced electrician."

I first contacted Josh Wise on approximately July 24th., asking for a quote powerwashing and exterior trim painting. I received an e-mail response on August 2nd. where in Josh asked me to call him. I did. In fact, I called 3 times, leaving two messages. When I received no response, I sent an e-mail, on August 10th saying that if I didn't receive an immediate response, I would take it as an indication that he was not interested in the work. I received a response that day from Josh's wife saying he would call. He did. We spoke briefly, and agreed to meet at my house in Raleigh that Saturday, August 11th. Josh said he might be busy, but that he would call "an hour or so ahead of time" so I could be sure to be at the house when he arrived. Well, I never received another call from Josh, either as a head's up that he was on his way, or as an apology that he was unable to make it. After this, I decided this contractor was too unresponsive to deserve by business.

SINCE THIS IS AN EXTERIOR PAINT JOB, I EXPRESSLY TOLD THE MEMBER THAT THERE WAS NO NEED FOR HIM TO BE THERE WHEN I CAME BY TO LOOK AT THE HOUSE (SIZE, CONDITION) IN ORDER FOR ME TO GIVE AN ESTIMATE. I RECEIVED A RUDE EMAIL FROM HIM ON THE EVENING OF MONDAY, AUGUST 13TH THAT STATED THAT IT WAS NOT HIS PROBLEM ABOUT MY DAUGHTER'S ILLNESS, MY BIRTHDAY AND ANY OTHER PERSONAL ENGAGEMENTS AND THAT I WAS UNPROFESSIONAL. THIS IS A CLEAR CASE OF A MISUNDERSTANDING BECAUSE I NEVER COMMITTED TO MEET THE MEMBER AT A SPECIFIC TIME. PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO READ THE PLENTIFUL POSITIVE EXPERIENCES AND TAKE THIS ONE WITH A GRAIN OF SALT."

The overall experience was absolutely fantastic. I didn't think it was possible. Three neatly dressed, bright-eyed, well-mannered, well-spoken young men arrived on time and wasted no time in running through my lengthy to-do list. Josh Wise and his crew are to be commended for their terrific work ethic and customer-friendliness. For obvious reasons, it took awhile for Josh to get me worked into his busy schedule. But I was not in a hurry and he remained in contact with me to keep me posted on his availability. It was worth the wait and I will be calling on him again!

After a several-week delay (Josh is very busy right now), they came on a Friday to estimate the job, then the following Monday to do the work. They came on time. Josh had estimated $200 plus materials for the job, and that's exactly what it cost. I watched them do the work, and I was completely satisfied with it. They worked steadily and carefully, with much attention to detail. Josh and Doug also pointed out some other needed repairs and provided cost estimates. I'll happily hire them again for those repairs.

We were extremely pleased with A Wise Idea. When we hired them, we had a short list. We were so impressed by the quality and value of their service we kept adding more items to the list. Their range of services is much greater than that reported by Angie's List or even their web site, which the owner tells me is still in the development phase. Basically, A Wise Idea is a company with two guys who have quite a few skills and considerable experience. They work together, but Doug is the main electrician and Josh is the main dry wall repair and carpentry guy. They are honest about what they can and can't do. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.
