We were finally forced to make it happen in 2015, when the ?25-year? shingles started leaking at 20 years (we?d experienced unusually good service life, we discovered). So with the threat of disappearing state and federal tax credits on solar PV panels to generate electricity for our house, we decided it was time to install new roofing to stop the leaks, and in so doing, to provide the necessary infrastructure for PV.
We narrowed it down to a very few roofing contractors after scouring websites, friends and other resources, but amazingly (to us), only two actually came to the house and surveyed the job. Our preferred vendor was one of them ? Mark Stith, owner of RoofCrafters. A sales representative from another highly regarded, big-name roofer came to our house, measured, left samples and compiled copious notes, but never followed up, despite his promise to do so. Too much difficulty? We?ll never know, nor do we really care.
In October 2014, Mark embraced the challenge of our house, admitting this was more than he had encountered in his 25 years of roofing. But he relished our throw-down, and took the job, honoring our request that because we were doing some financial juggling, we didn?t want to start the project until mid- to late summer 2015.
The work started in June 2015, which, unfortunately for the roofers, turned out to be an especially hot time, with temperatures hitting 100-plus several days. But RoofCrafters showed up every day. Incredible heat, incredible challenges. Mark and his delightfully efficient and courteous crew crafted a fabulous roof for us, on schedule and on budget.
We?ve waited to post this review until we?ve had at least six months of experience with this roofing system so it might be meaningful. Bottom line: we?re confident in recommending RoofCrafters as a truly reliable, top-quality company.
We now delight in hot North Carolina sun, rain, and crazy North Carolina snow, hail and sleet, knowing that our home is well protected and that we can enjoy the sounds on our metal roof (it?s really not loud, as some might expect ? it?s just nice). It?s aesthetically right for our home and our setting. It has been great, even through a recent mid-January 2016 ice/sleet mess. And, as Mark predicted, it?s been even cooler inside the house on really hot days.
We?re truly relieved that we hired RoofCrafters for our metal roofing project, and recommend Mark Stith without hesitation as a detail-oriented, delightful-to-work-with, highly intelligent roofing professional.
He?s the founder of this company, yet he has been actively involved in every aspect of the crafting of our roof. So have we. That?s rare. Thanks to this partnership, we have a relationship that we cherish, and the best roof possible.
A month later, just as Mark had promised, Roofcrafters was ready to do the roof. They parked their work trailer in the drive and the next morning Mark's two partners, Jose and Gustavo, were on the roof at eight AM. For the next four days, they were on the roof at 8:01AM each morning and worked until 0730P when it became too dark to see. The weather was good; they worked diligently; and the job went without complication. I spent some time on the roof every day and they were glad to explain the job and point out the progress. I note that Roofcrafters seems to specialize in metal roofs, but this was an uncomplicated job, installing standard shingles on a modest house and at each point they seemed to do a careful job and attend to details.
Some of the roof decking needed to be replaced, for which Roofcrafters charged a very reasonable additional hundred dollars for materials. Otherwise, the work was completed for the original estimate and I have every reason to believe that the work was done to a high standard.
Looking over Angie's List, I see a number of roofing companies with excellent customer satisfaction, but if you are looking for a small, local company with a reputation for good work and honest dealing, with guys who show up on time, work hard all day, and are a pleasure to have around your home, I would recommend Roofcrafters.
Mark Stith and his workers were very pleasant and courteous and a pleasure to have at my home.
