What started as a repair request to water damaged ceiling area grew into a complete re-do of the main living areas of our home. We had been planning on doing interior painting and removal of old carpet with replacement in hardwood but couldn't quite fathom the process. While speaking with Mr. Ammons about the feasibility of doing all of this work, Mr. Ammons provided excellent suggestions and guidance. Project included: removal of old sliding door and replaced with insulated patio door; repair shoddy drywall work before painting; repairing and re-applying textured ceiling 'paint' to match rest of ceiling; painting multiple and high ceiling walls with odd angles; painting trim through out and adding shoe molding after installing 3/4 in hickory hardwoods. About 90% of the way toward finishing, our chimney leak re-appeared - Mr. Ammons and crew immediately climbed up on the roof to cover the chimney in the pouring rain. The next day they tackled removing the cap and finding the source of the leak (after a roofer had supposedly sealed the chimney chase and cap a couple of years ago...). As the final piece of the project, Mr. Ammons tackled the steps separating the living room from the hall and dining areas. The craftsmanship is excellent throughout, but the steps really stand out as well done work. We are very pleased with the final outcome.

Mr. Ammons and his crew were superb. I called with less than one day's notice for removal of restaurant kitchen counters and equipment - and they did amazing work. I knew nothing about the this kind of job, and they stepped right in and knew exactly what to do. They had the whole process organized and underway before I even arrived (I was 15 minutes late; they were right on time), took apart very large counters and equipment, and moved them to a storage space. My van didn't have a hydraulic lift, so the moving was difficult. They were very nice about this, and totally professional. The work was done more quickly than I thought, and they had everything under control. Total pros, respectful to me, and courteous to everyone involved - I would hire them again in a minute for any task they're willing to take on. They are very skilled, and flexible regarding which tasks they will perform. Awesome job.

2 men spent 4 hours replacing the wood and painting. There was a delay due to weather and another job but I was in no hurry. Site was left relatively clean afterwards and they were the best quote. About 1/2 of others. I would hire them again in a second.

Mr. Ammons came to my house to take a look at the job and give me an estimate. Despite other carpenters' unwillingness to take on the project, Mr. Ammons was willing once we talked about the risks of what may happen to the furniture. I paid a deposit and sheduled the work for the next week. When Mr. Ammons arrived to do the work, he had been thinking about the project and suggested another way to get the armoire to my office. Instead of cutting my furniture, he disassembled a part of my balcony and moved the armoire in one piece. This plan was less time consuming and risky. The plan was executed well, the balcony looks exactly like it did before, and my furniture was not harmed in the process!

Mr Ammons removed my rotted wooden front porch posts and replaced them with polyethylene porch steel core posts that I had ordered. He came on time to give me an estimate of the cost for the work and he came on time to do the job. Althought the rotten posts he had to remove had not been installed correctly and this complicated the replacement with the new posts he did a great job. When there were options regarding how the posts would look he explained the options and asked me what I preferred and made excellent suggestions when I was unsure. I was very pleased with his work. He left my front porch as clean or cleaner than he found it and hauled away all the debris/rotten posts. I would highly recommend the quality of his work.

I obtained David Ammons' name from Angie's List. I've had animal damage to the soffit and fascia in two locations on my house, caused by squirrels. I've had squirrels in my attic for a couple years now. They keep chewing away at a location at the far end of the house until they find a way in. In that location, I wanted the repair to include metal grating to thwart the squirrels this year. Oh -- and my house is situated on a slope. The areas which needed repair are three stories up. I called David, and my call was answered by a staff member. She took the information, and arranged a time for David to meet me at the house. He arrived on time, surveyed the damage, and gave me a quote. I probably could have had the work done for a bit less, but David inspired confidence and I hired him. He is busy -- he said my job would be placed in line and would probably be two weeks away. I gave a deposit, and less than two weeks later, I got a call from his office and we set a time for the next day. David arrived on time and completed the repairs in 5 hours. We noticed a couple additional holes around a dormer. He gave me a quote of only $50 to repair both, and he fixed them as well. All in all, I am very pleased with the service provided and would hire David again in a heartbeat. And if you should hire him, tell me I'm crazy if you don't see a slight resemblance to Richard Crenna!.

They were very prompt getting back to us from our initial email query and provided a quote within a few days. The work was done quickly and professionally; they didn't try to sell us a new fence (like another company we had contacted) but did exactly what we wanted for a reasonable price. Would definitely call them again, and have recommended them to others.

He did the bathrooms, door frames and replaced some water tanks. On his last job I spent about $1100. His work is excellent but I think his invoices should be more detailed. I am not happy with the invoicing. I will use him again in the future for some things.

We were overall very pleased with the carpentry on the project. We wound up terminating our relationship with them after they put the cedar siding on the side of the house. We gave him a can of the product we wanted used, and he ended up using a vinyl base stain to put on the outside of our house. We gave him very specific instructions. It destroyed $2500.00 worth of stuff on the outside. He placed the wrong boards on the outside of the house. He is very meticulous in his work. We have no issue at all with the carpentry, but we did not like the finish.
Response from AMMONS GENERAL CARPENTRY
"I have been trying to decide for 2 weeks how to respond to this review. Needless to say I was hurt, disappointed and then angry. I take pride in my work and my business and to have someone say that they were not pleased with the finished results was just not acceptable to me as a reputable businessman and person. The incorrect siding was not put on the house. It was the stain that was not correct. I was given an old paint can lid with a little of the stain remaining on it. I thought I was getting the correct stain. The color was a perfect match but after the new cedar siding was installed and stained the customer displayed dissatisfaction with the result. I was then told the original stain was oil based and the one I used was acrylic. This was the only absolute downside. Immediately ( the very next day) I tore down the new siding, replaced it, and left it unstained at the request of the customer. All of this was done at no additional cost to the customer. When I finished the job I was paid the remainder of what they owed for the original job and nothing at all was said about them not being satisfied or unhappy with the finished project. This is my business and income for my family and I would do anything to rectify any problems the customer would have. I was also mentioned in the review how meticulous I am about my work and work ethics. This is why I just didn't understand the review. Since this negative review I have not even had one referral from Angi's List. As the members of Angi's list can see this review is so inconsistent with the other reviews I have had that is is just hard for me to comprehend why it was written in this way. Again, when I left the customer when the work was completed they displayed no dissatisfaction with the finished project."

When Mr. Ammons came to give me a quote, he actually helped me decide on Pergo instead of hardwood based on the height difference between the installed products. I wouldn't have known enough to know there would be a drop into my kitchen, for example, if I had gone with hardwood. He really listened. They showed up every morning at 8 a.m. and worked (with short breaks) through lunch and beyond. They cleaned up every day. I found them professional and enjoyable to boot.

Mr. Ammons and his crew were very timely for each job. Any issues were promptly brought to my attention, including issues that may require future attention via another type of service (i.e, condensation on exterior windows, which would need replacement). Mr. Ammons explained each job in detail and the best/time efficient approach to each job. The estimate at the beginning of each job was very close to the final cost.

Overall, everything went very well. The quality of work was good and he did exactly what he said he would do for the price quoted. The only negative was that I had to follow-up with him twice instead of him following up with me as requested.

Picked 3 recommended companies from the website. Submitted my problem and address to them via e-mail. Mr. Ammons responded promptly and said even though it was out of his normal driving range, that he would be glad to come out to my property and give me an estimate. Because I travel alot for my job, I was unable to be there when he came out to take a look. He promptly showed up the day he said he would and immediately gave me a call. After discussing the situation, he suggested that given the high cost of cedar and the superior durability of pressure treated lumber, I should consider cutting off the existing posts below the deck then sinking the treated lumber into the ground and securing them to the original ones. This seemed to make sense, but I was concerned that the look of my beautiful cedar deck would be compromised. He assured me that once the staining was completed that it would not look bad at all and that I was also getting a superior base, while saving quite a bit of money. He sent me an estimate and we ultimately agreed on the price. I provided him a deposit of half upfront to cover materials and he set a start date. Before the date arrived, he contacted me and told me that due to unforseen problems with another job, he would not be able to start on the date we had agreed upon. While this was not a big concern initially, as a week went by I did wonder when my job would begin. By the time I contacted Mr. Ammons again about the new start date, he replied that he had already been out to the house and had most of the construction work lready completed. I was very happy to hear that and was even happier when I arrived home and saw the great work. The craftmanship was excellent and the area around the entire deck looked practically undisturbed with little to no mess at all. Then the rains came. Due to weather conditions, we had to wait a number of weeks until the cleaning and staining could done. However, as soon as it was possible Mr. Ammons came out and completed the job. Even though he lost a day's work due to my giving him the incorrect stain color indication, he still kept his great attitude and had a color mixed to match my original one. I am very pleased with the job that David Ammons did for me and would highly recommend him to anyone.

I contacted David online and he got back to me with a quote within a couple of days. We had some problems trying to schedule the job because both my wife and I work. I asked him if he worked on saturdays and he said no problem. We scheduled the job the following weekend. He showed up right on time and did exactly what he said he would.

Dave came to the house when promised to look at the job and work up a quote. He gave a fair quote for the job. He started the job in the time frame that he indicated he would. If he had a hold up and could not come to the house, he called and let us know. He kept a neat and clean work site and he removed all construction debris. The workmanship was top quality. We would use him again on future projects.
