Floors Unlimited did not follow the specs required by the 'Bona Hardwood Floor Finishing' manufacturer. Bona Hardwood Floor Finishing specs require a sealer to be applied to the bare wood before coating with their finish. Floors Unlimited explained that a sealer is NOT necessary.
After sanding, the bare wood floors were left exposed to weather & moisture for 5 days before even the first finish coat of Bona was applied.
Within one month, the first floor had slight cupping which became serious by August, 2010. Floors Unlimited refused to accept responsibility for the cupping and wore us out with excuses and delayng tactics.
While having a cracked floor tile replaced, the tile installer noted that the cracked tile was not properly adhered to the subfloor. Therefore, he checked and found other loose tiles. Then we contacted our builder, Rick Scheper, for help and advice. He requested a second a opinion. We brought in a person known in our area to be a tile authority. He confirmed that some of our floor tiles are loose. Neither Floors Unlimited nor Rick Scheper will correct this situation.
"[member name removed], In response to your complaint. I will have to disagree with most of the comments made. I have a hard copy proof that you were advised not to go with anything over 3" wide due to the humidity in our area. You were notified many times just like every customer we deal with that wider wood tends to cup when exposed to high humidity but yet you repeatedly said you wanted a wider board. In response to the "cracked tile" issue. Tiles sometimes crack when the house starts to settle which we have no problem repairing free of charge within our year warranty. I again have a hard copy of an email between you and our company where not only did we offer did we offer to repair the tile(s) but I tried to schedule a specific date and time to take care of them. You refused and said the crack was very unnoticeable and would prefer to leave it be. When going to your home to look at the hardwood issue mentioned above, your husband again addressed the cracked tile with the owner of our company and even though it was after our year warranty was over, we again offered to repair this area and again it was refused. We are sorry that you feel this way, but the complaints you have listed are not at all accurate and we have the hardcopies of communication to document this."
It seemed clear when we met with the manager/owner that they were not particularly happy about having to return to fix their "flubs." Had it not been for our good, well-respected general contractor's full backing & cooperation, they may not have returned.
I left the "how much did you spend" blank because this work was part of a contract to build our new home.
