We had an absolutely horrible experience with this company. We were referred to Sean by our real estate agent and it turned out to be a disaster.
The Facts:
1. He charged a $245 fee to bid the project and put his engineering stamp of approval on it. I didn't know the bid would cost money until I received the invoice in the mail.
2. He bid the project for 2 week timeline. A month later it still wasn't complete. I was paying for my family to stay in a hotel during the renovation.
3. He underbid the refinishing of the wood floors by $2,000. I ended up taking on that project in order to prevent him from cutting corners in other areas of the project. He still cut corners.
4. I had to inform him multiple times on what the contract stated to prevent him from cutting corners. Ex. When he replaced the back door he tried to reuse the old siding and trim, even though the contract said it would be replaced with new. He tried to patch a section of water damaged drywall instead of remove it and replace as stated by the contract. He tried to just add CO detectors instead of replacing the current smoke alarms with combination units as stated by the contract.
5. He said the city did not require a permit for this project. When things started going bad I called the city to double check his work they had no recollection of his conversation with them and stated that the renovation clearly needed a permit. He then failed the city inspection due to his work in the crawlspace.
6. The backdoor that he replaced leaked profusely and didn't fit right. He refused to take responsibility for his work and always tried to blame someone or something else for the problem. I eventually had to bring in another contractor to rehang the door and had no problems with it leaking or its fit since.
7. The drywall patch that he did was terrible. It sticks out like sore thumb every time I walk into our kitchen.
8. The paint job is the worst that I have ever seen. He spilled paint all over the floors, to include my freshly sanded floors, tile, countertops, cabinets and sinks. There were paint drips everywhere and his ability to cut in was atrocious. There was wall paint on the ceiling and ceiling paint on the wall. When I brought in companies to bid to fix his work. Most refused to touch it.
9. He also cleaned out his drywall putty tools in our sinks. When I cleaned out the traps under the sinks they were over halfway filled with the putty. He had complete disreguard for our home.
10. He was unable to replace our broken window during the month that he worked on the home.
11. In the bid he stated he would fix the moisture problem in our crawlspace with a code approved method. When he was done we still had major moisture problem. There were puddles of standing water throughout the crawlspace due to our HVAC lines dripping from condensation. When a permit was finally pulled and an inspection done, he failed the inspection due to inadequate vapor barrier coverage.
12. He also attempted other projects outside of the written contract that also went horribly wrong. He replaced a tub and in the process chipped two of my tiles. He didn't mention it until I pointed it out to him and then he tries to fix it by placing a large piece of quarter round along the side of the tub. It didn't even cover up one of the chips. He attempted to install an undermount sink. When he was done there was large gap between the sink and the granite counter-top that he tried to fill with caulk.
In summary, his craftsmanship and integrity is well below that of the industry standard.
The job went very well. Sean, the owner, brought sufficient workers to accomplish the task in a couple days, and cleaned up so well, you wouldn't know they were ever there at all.
Three years later, there is no musty odor, crawl space temperature stays fairly constant and humidity never goes above 52%.
We couldn't be more satisfied.
Very capable folks. Seemed like they did first rate work!
