Rocky Top Tree Service and Landscaping

7/3/2020 to 7/10/2020. Initially, I was pleased because they showed up when they said they would. Rocky's son, Donovan and and his fiancee, Winter were our first contacts. We were very impressed with them. We exchanged our budget and ideas. Rocky got involved when the work began. The whole project went to **** after that. Rocky started telling me that everything Donovan and I had agreed upon would cost extra. .When I showed him the contract and the agreed upon price, he ignored it. He was in on the negotiations, by phone, for the initial estimate. Fearing that Rocky would leave the job half-done, I paid him what he demanded. At that point, I thought the money had been handled. The biggest slap in the face was when he knocked on the door and informed me that I owed him $300 more. I told him that I didn't think I had the extra money. His response was, "I'm sure you'll find it." He claimed that he had to dig down trenches around the paving blocks to distribute pea-gravel that I had purchased. My husband and I watched his future daughter-in-law and his two young grandchildren create small furrows with their fingers around the paving blocks. They opened a bag of gravel and pour some pebbles into the furrows. From beginning to end, this whole process took 10-15 minutes. As they were packing up to leave, I noticed that the job was not finished. When I called him on it he said, "that's what you told me you wanted." It wasn't! I had to drag his son into the conversation to support my claim even though I had it in writing. Prior to his work, I had received 3 estimates which came within a few hundred dollars of each other. When I complained to him on the phone later, he told me he would talk to me about the additional money when he had finished the job he had left undone. We never saw or heard from him again. A job that was estimated to cost $2,800.00 to $3,000.00 ended up costing me $7,000.00.

They were fine. They were here when I called them, they attended to business, there was no sitting around. They did a beautiful job of cleaning up, because they took a lot of limbs down.

The day before Rocky came out and gave me an estimate of cutting down my very tall leaning pine tree. The next afternoon, he and his crew came out, cut the limbs off the tree, cut the tree down, mulched the smaller pieces and hauled off the large pieces of tree. They were prompt, professional and very efficient. I will use them in the future.

The job went very well. We were consulted throughout the process and they took care to do exactly what we wanted/needed. He made helpful suggestions, and had a large enough crew to complete the job professionally, completely and quickly. We will certainly hire him again.

I contacted Rocky the week of June 3, 2103 and told him of tree to be removed and he came by on June 10th while I was gone and surveyed the tree and property.  I spoke with him on June 10 th and he gave me the price and I said ok, let's get it done.  He said he would be there within the next couple of days....didn't show or call.  I called him end of the week and he said he would be there 17th or 18th and would call me to confirm, when I didn't hear left him a message to let me know which day.  No response and no show.Called him again and left message expressing we wanted the tree removed and that we may consider other work as well.  He returned call on the 25th and said he would break away and come by that day and look at what else we may want and price and do it all same day.  He didn't show.We called again July 1 asking when he would get this taken care in a message.  He called right back and said he would want to look at other work to combine all in one day as he was going to be bringing a crew of 6, my response was to tell him we would need some dirt brought into the back yard and leveled out, he said well if that was all he would have to come by to give a price.  At that point having been told that story before and it not happening I said let's just stick with the original plan to remove the tree as agreed on June 10th for the price quoted.  I asked when would he would schedule that, he said July 3rd or 5th, I said OK and he said he would call July 2nd to confirm that  (as I had been told on previous occasions and no call  came )  Today again was a no show nor no phone call.
I would have to say I could not recommend to anyone.  Integrity is all important in running a business and keeping your word as to work date is the basis of success.  I would be completely flexible if a phone call when have been made to tell me something has prevented me from getting there a certain day.  Rocky doesn't operate that way.  There has been 4 no shows to date.  Guess he has too much business.

Rocky and his crew were great. Showed up earlier than expected and finished the job quickly. They were professional at all times. The price quoted is what I paid. Rocky came and got me several times to see the progress and make sure I was happy with the work they were doing. Clean up was fantastic , would never have known they just trimmed out 2 trees on my property. I am very happy with the quality , price and speed of the service

I got a verbal quote from the owner (which was very reasonable) and scheduled the work to be done. The work team showed up on time and worked through to the end of the day.  As planned, they came back the next day to finish the job.  They cleaned everything up and took all wood, branches and debris away.  The final bill was as quoted. The work crew members were very friendly and professional. I would not hesitate to give them my highest recommendation!

He cut down 2 trees and trimmed  limbs off two other trees that were low to the ground.  This was agreed upon in his
estimate to me.  He then came to collect his pay and told me the bill was $500.00 more than he had given me for the estimate.  I was there all the time and no other work was done.

*Update*

He never discussed any additional cost with me. He never explained the extra cost to me either. There was never a tree to be trimmed but 2 to be taken down. I was going to leave one about 12 ft. high as it had ivy on it for the brids to nest in over winter as they always did. He suggested I take it always down but never said there would be an additional fee as it only took one cut to remove the rest of the trunk. I asked him about trimming low hanging limbs off the two trees in front as the time of his estimate. He said "that won't be much to cut them off". Now he is putting a false report on your list. He came to my house and wanted to know why I would put him on Angie's List. I told him exactly why charging me $500.00 more and not even explaining why or what it was for. He even lied to me when he came out. Said he would have given me the extra money back if I had not written on your list. That tell me he knew is had done wrong in charging the extra $500.00. Hope you will put this additional information to correct his lies.
