The workers we pleasant and friendly.
One shutter (of 12) has had a problem locking shut but they have very quickly come out to help with that.
I can say that on every occasion we have dealt with them they have been responsive and helpful.
I think shutters like these at the beach are always going to need upkeep, and tuning.
The salt air eats anything but stainless steel, aluminium, and plastic, and eventually seems to eat those too!
I am comfortable with Atlantic Breeze being a partner for the future with our shutters. They know the beach, and live and work here. You need that for work on coastal property.
These shutters are so much better than putting up plywood, for storms like we used to. We just shut them when we leave.
They keep out intruders (they lock) and the sunlight. They are noise proof when closed too.
When I received a quote from Atlantic Breeze (AB) in February 2012 for protection for 8 windows, I was informed that the installation would be completed about 6 weeks after finalizing a contract for the work. I signed the contract and paid a 50% deposit a week later, in early March.
After two months without hearing back, I called the AB office to see when the installation would be scheduled. I was told that they would check and call back. They did not. I continued to call about every two weeks. I never received a call from the AB office informing me of the status of the work until early June. Finally in early June, AB called to schedule a time for installation.
When the workers arrived, they looked at the house and said they did not know the house was brick, that they did not have the proper tools, and would have to go back to the main office to get the tools. They returned half a day later. They started to install tracks for plexiglass panels but they were not of the design we had asked for. That caused another delay while they ordered the proper tracks.
By the end of June they had completed installation of only one set of shutters out of 8 total windows to be protected. The shutters were hung crooked and were scratched during the installation. I wrote and delivered a letter to the company that if the work was not completed to my satisfaction by the end of July I would consider the contract invalid for non performance. The owner came by to observe the status. Within two weeks, the job was finally completed. The scratched shutters had been touched up with paint. The workers said they would leave the touch up paint, but never did. I called to ask that they drop off the paint when convenient -- I never received it.
Thankfuly, I have not yet had the occasion to test out the product during hurricane conditions. However, the service was unacceptable and unprofessional.
During installation (a) one of their workers dropped a drill on our cement walkway and put a divot in it, (b) one of the shutters had a large scratch of paint missing (c) another shutter was made too small for the window it was on, (d) two other shutters had been installed on the wrong windows and (e) molding they installed under two plexiglass sheets was stained and dirty. I notified them of these problems one week later. They promised a quick response to correct them. They came out quickly and took down the plexigalss.
However, I had to make repeated phone calls and visits to their office before they finally came out to my house in Feb, 2012 with two new shutters and correct the problems. By that time (5 months) the paint on the old shutters had faded and did not match the paint on the new shutters. Atlantic Breeze said it was likely due to premature fading. They wanted to take one shutter off and send it back to the manufacturer to have it checked out for fading. I was not willing to do this because hurricane season was coming and I had already waited 5 months for them to come out to my house. I had paid them for a full set of shutters to protect my house (I live near the ocean).
Since the shutters had a 5 year paint warranty from the manufacturer and since they had delayed this resolution for 5 months I felt they or the manufacturer needed to find another way to fix it. The manufacturer could have sent a rep to my house to see if it was faded. Or, since they were his biggest retailer and they are the professionals, the maufacturer should have believed them that the shutters were faded. Instead, they told us his suggestion was to take the new shutters and put them in the sun for a few months until they faded like the old ones!
After this, I again had to make repeated phone calls and visits to their office until the March when they agreed to replace all the shutters at their cost.
Even with this it still took a number of phone calls and a certified letter I sent to them until the end of Nov 2012 to get them to replace all the faded, scratched and undersized shutters.
Overall it took them 14 months to fix these problems. Ironically, had they come out in the first two months and replaced the scratched and undersized shutters we would have never noticed the fading since it was a slow process and they likely would not have had to replace all our shutters. They never did fix the divot in the walkway.
Our experience was very unsatisfactory and I will not use them again.
