BEWARE OF RCA!!!!
RCA was doing cold calls in my neighborhood back in May 2015 and after inspecting our roof (for free), they determined that we had hail damage from a recent storm and they offered to replace our roof. I did some quick research on Angie?s List and Better Business Bureau and thought they would do a good job. I work in the insurance industry and so I am familiar with a lot of the process. They got the claim set up, arranged for the insurance company to come and do their inspection and scheduled a day/time for the work to be done. Everything was smooth sailing until the actual work day. They told me multiple times (and even put it in writing) that they would be there at 7am the day of. 7am came and went and no roofers. At 7:30 I called to follow up and got no one. I called back again at 8am and was told they would find out what was going on and let me know. At 9am I was told they were finishing up on another job and would be there by 11am. At this point I was getting very frustrated as I had spent half of my morning making phone calls, trying to find out where the roofers were. They finally decided to show up at 12:30pm and get started. However, only half the crew was there ? the other half didn?t arrive until mid afternoon. I made it very clear during numerous phone calls that morning that they were NOT to get started if they couldn?t finish the same day. They assured me they would be done by 7pm. I left during this time to take my dog somewhere else so he wouldn?t be disturbed by all of the noises that day. When I returned late afternoon around 4:30pm, they were still scraping old shingles and tar paper off of the roof!!! They also had the biggest mess I had ever seen in my yard and landscaped areas around my house. There was trash, work equipment, foam pads, coolers and even a microwave all strewn about my front yard. I found out later from talking to my neighbors that they arrived around 12:30pm but didn?t get started working until around 2pm because they were lounging around in the shade in the front and back yard. At 6pm I asked one of the guys (who looked to be in charge) if they would be done by 7pm. I told them I had a young child that needed to go to bed and they could not be banging on the roof that late. They told me they should be done by 7pm but it may be closer to 8pm. At this point I was so ready for it to be done so I agreed to let them continue until 8pm but no later. They FINALLY stopped banging at 8:15pm but didn?t pull out of my driveaway until after 9:00 after they finished ?cleaning up? (or after I thought they had cleaned up). I was also told from the beginning (and again in writing) that the Project Manager would be at our house the same day to check on the work and make sure everything was progressing smoothly. The Project Manager NEVER showed up!!!
The next day we were able to go outside and inspect everything. While the roof looked great, the yard was a DISASTER!!! Over a period of 2-3 weeks afterwards, we were finding nails everywhere in our yard. This was probably due to the fact that they cleaned up in such a hurry, in the DARK! I think we eventually picked up 75-100 nails left in our yard. I made it clear to them when they started that they had to clean up any nails they had dropped because I had a young child and a dog and couldn?t have them stepping on any nails. We also had trash, pieces of tar paper and shingles all over our yard and in our bushes. Many of our landscaping plants had been trampled, broken off, burnt by the tarp on them in the hot sun, etc. It took us well over an hour to clean up their mess. We also have an irrigation system and found that they had broken one of our sprinkler heads and actually took the head with them and threw it away (I guess maybe trying to cover it up). At this point I was furious and called and asked to speak with the manager/owner. I was eventually able to speak with him and he assured me that everything would be taken care of. He assured me that the Project Manager had been fired (for my issues as well as others) and that everything would be handled. He did send another crew out to fix the sprinkler head and to clean up any additional mess. However, by that time, I had done most of the cleaning up.
There are probably a dozen other issues that I could elaborate on but this review is long enough as it is. I just want to let others know what our experience was like so that hopefully no one else has to go through the same issues that we went through. It was such a nightmare and I hope to never have a roof replaced again. If I do, I definitely won?t use RCA!
I would definitely recommend this company and coordinator.
The claim process involved my mortgage company as well and they helped take care of getting all the information needed to both the mortgage company and my insurance company. The work finally occurred over a two day period with a full crew here each day. The result was beautiful and even some friends and neighbors commented on how nice it came out.
It looked like a construction site while the roof was being done, however by the final evening they meticulously went around the complete house picking up everything. Especially important was a guy rolling around a huge magnet on wheels to pick up any potential roofing nails that were hidden in the grass or under the bushes. The next day other than some trampled grass it could hardly be noticed how much work had been done.
They are still working through the insurance / mortgage paperwork and I have been very pleased with their handling of this entire project.
"THANK YOU FOR THE REVIEW AND FOR THE OPPORTUNITY YOU PROVIDED US TO ASSIST YOU WITH YOUR ROOF REPLACEMENT. (removed member name) LIVES IN A BEAUTIFUL LUXURY HOME AND WE ARE VERY HAPPY THAT HE IS PLEASED WITH OUR WORK. IT IS A GREAT COMPLIMENT WHEN SOMEONE TAKES THE TIME TO COMMEND A COMPANY ON THEIR WORK, AS IT IS MUCH EASIER FOR PEOPLE TO ONLY POST NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES. WE VALUE YOU AS A CUSTOMER AND ARE VERY APPRECIATIVE OF THE BUSINESS."
