It went great. We called and found out directions to the place. There is a little lounge to wait in while they work on your car. The people were courteous.

I did not want to take my car to the dealer for obvious reasons. After I read a few positive reviews online about Lake Norman Tire and Auto in Mooresville, I decided to give this place a shot. Well, as long as you pay whatever the owner (Ken) asks, he remains very friendly and accommodating but once you start asking questions about the charges, things rapidly change.
He was asking too much for the parts I needed for my car so I decided to buy them online (100% fit for my car). Since he could not make any money on parts, he overcharged me on labor. When I asked him to explain the charges and the hours of labor he is claiming, he came too short with explanations. Obviously I expressed my frustration about the overcharge, later on he got very angry and upset. Although I kept very calm and was even willing to pay the whole bill right away, (I just wanted to get out of that place and needed my car back), he started threatening me with calling the police (Police? for what?). Later he refused accepting my credit card and asked for cash money only, although he knew that I needed my car that very day. Well he was not done yet, then he started cussing at me and eventually kicked me out of his shop, took my car keys away and asked his associate to lockup my car in a secure place in his shop until I bring him the cash (Really?!) And all these happened in front of another customer. Wow,...and all I did was asking for an explanation. I have to say that his behavior was absolutely unprofessional and inappropriate. If unprofessionalism was against the law, I would have definitely taken him to court. Any way,
Unfortunately in the current system as consumers we don't have many rights or options to deal with individuals as such. I think this type of people very well know that consumers would not go through the hassle of legal actions like hiring a lawyer, court etc. for a few hundred Dollars dispute. Yet consumers do have the right to put their reviews online and warn other people about places like this. I do believe in the power of online reviews. Ultimately we as consumers are the one who spends the money and deserve adequate service.
Thank you Angie's List for the opportunity.

Response from Lake Norman Tire & Auto Center
"[member name removed] came in twice prior to receiving any repairs to receive a quote and complete review of all work to be preformed. We gave [member name removed] a written quote prior to him ordering his own parts for us to install. Many shops will not even install customer's parts but a Lake Norman Tire has no difficulty helping out a customer looking to save money. [member name removed] must have agreed to the pricing because he ordered all of the exhaust system from an unknown supplier....and them brought the parts and vehicle into Lake Norman Tire to have them installed. Prior to installing the purchased exhaust system [member name removed] had gone out and purchased..... we once again confirmed the total cost of repairs. The issues arose when [member name removed] came to pick up the vehicle...after the installation was complete. [member name removed] requested that we raise up his vehicle so he could review the repairs....he also asked that we return the converters and muffler that we removed from the vehicle ....which we placed in the bed of his truck. Upon cashing out the invoice..... after all of the estimates.... he started to tell us in VERY LOUD terms that he felt we should have charged him less. I (Ken Silverman the owner of Lake Norman Tire) showed him the Mitchell Labor Guide (the standard automotive repair labor guide that most automotive repair facilities us to quote labor charges) and how we were HUNDREDS of dollars below the estimated recommended guide for the installation of those parts...and that discount was reflected on his receipt. [member name removed] proceeded to state that "Just because he had an accent I shouldn't consider him backwards"...That I probably overcharge all foreigners.....that I was a raciest! He made quite a scene....I asked him to leave. At Lake Norman Tire.....we do absolutely everything we can do to make sure the customer know what they will pay BEFORE we do ANY work on their vehicle. WE WILL NOT WORK ON A CAR WITHOUT PREMISSION....and in this case, we gave him multiple quoted prior to him even ordering the parts from his own supplier. This man continued to negotiate well after the work was completed and then started throwing the RACE card around. As an Angie's list member, let me assure you his testimony is not an accurate depiction of the facts."

I came in today to get an inspection and it was my first visit to Lake Norman Tire. The staff were great and went beyond the scope of a regular inspection. Coming back for sure.

Went great.. Met with the owner directly - he took the time to put the car on a lift, looked all through the engine, heard it run and gave us his recommendations - at no charge. Even for its age and miles he felt it was safe for our daughter and didn't feel there was anything that needed to be done at the time. We just really appreciated that he took his time and expertise, looked over our car and made recommendations at no charge. It has many little leaks going on and he totally could have insisted that he try and find them and fix them but instead he recommended just keeping up with checking fluid levels rather them dumping tons of money into it. Seemed to be a very fair, honest, good person.
