Trae Steele Construction

Beware of Trae Steele Construction, LLC out of Monroe,NC.  They were a subcontractor hired to replace my roof in October 2012.  They completed the job and I paid the contracting company in full.  I have the stamped invoice to prove this.  On Saturday 3/9/13, I received a threatening letter by certified mail from Trae Steele Construction, claiming I owed them $842.98 and if I did not pay by MONDAY 3/11/13 at 5 pm, they would put a lien on my house!  They had sent this letter on Wednesday 3/6/13 (I have the tracking information).  It is my belief that they hoped I would not have enough time to gather information and in my fear of a lien, that I would pay the money.  And while, I do not know if they are owed money from the contracting company (nor is it my business), I believe they decided it would be easier (and cheaper) to send a certified letter to me (who does not owe them money) than to pursue this matter in court against the people, they believe do owe them money.  Thankfully, I had all my paperwork and a lawyer in the family!  Trae Steele Construction was past the legal deadline to place a lien on my house.  It was an empty threat.  The letter was a bullying, scare tactic to extort money.  And while I am not concerned about this situation for my family, I am concerned that others may fall victim to this tactic.  So please share this information with people you know!! Do not write a check without checking the information first.
