on time and high quality
After Mcgee finished the deck job, Mike Prince would not return my e-mails or phone calls. I had to pay $1500 more than his estimate to get the job done.
The original column work was done by Mcgee as a subcontractor for Fortis Homes, now K Hovnanian. I had documentation with Fortis about the footings. I contacted K Hovnanian to get a copy of the documentation with Mcgee, but they don't have any documentation from Fortis. My firm belief is that Mcgee intentionally installed improper footings to save money. I think it is doubtful Fortis would not have specified how the deep the footings should be when I specified to original soil.
I don't think it takes an engineer to know you don't build heavy brick columns on fill dirt behind a 9 foot high wooden retaining wall on footings 12 inches deep. My wooden wall would have lasted another 10 years if not for the failure of the columns. I just spent over $37,000.00 on a new wall and columns due to either Mcgee's intentional deception or total incompetence in 1995. The official response through Mike Prince was to lie and commit to help me, and then leave me in the lurch. I guess making a profit matters more than integrity to Mr. Prince; and apparently to Mcgee as a company.
