We contracted with Fine Edge Landscaping to install a large patio with 18" high wall around the patio. We also had lighting and landscaping done around the patio. Fine Edge had their concrete contractor bring out a color pallet an we chose a color for the concrete that matched the stone being used in the wall. When the concrete cured it came out very pink not evven close to the color we chose. We were told that the concrete had to cure and it would turn to the color we selected. Approximately 4 months after the concrete was poured it had not cured to the color we chose, it was still pink. Fine Edge Landscaping did not want to tear the concrete out and they hired a contractor to come out and put an acid eching stain on the concrete. The color they stained the concrete was acceptable to us so we finished the contract and paid for the completed project. Within 6 months of the stain being applied it started to chip off the concrete. Fine Edge Landscaping had the staining contractor come out and paint more sealer on the spots that were chipped off. Now the concrete had a patch look to it and the stain kept on chipping up all over the deck. At this point the contractor who put the stain on had Sherwin Williams (the stain manufacturer) come out and look at the application. The representitive from Sherwin Williams told me that it looked like the original comncrete was the problem because the concrete surface had a lot of powder residue on it and the stain could not adhere to it. Now it is everybody pointing the finger at each other. Fine Edge Landscaping hired both the original installer of the concrete and the contractor that put the stain on. Fine Edge doesn't want to take responsability and keeps trying to put me in the middle to get the resolution. Fine Edge Landscaping needs to fix the problem, I contracted with them and they are responsible for taking care of the problem. I have been trying to get Fine Edge Landscaping for almost 2 years to take care of this an they use one stalling tactic after another to avoid taking care of this. Now he won't even return my calls. We have also had a lot of problems with the low voltage lighting that was installed. Lights that are supposed to have a 5 year or even life time warranty keep burning out. When I call to get a replacement it takes a long time for Fine Edge to respond with the new bulbs. The control box they used is so complicated that they had me buy another controler that was easier to use. They won't respond anymore and have told me that I need to drive over to the lightiing store to get the replacements. This is very poor customer service. Over all our experience has been exteremly disapointing and I am going to have to take leagal action if Fine Edge Landscaping doesn't take care of these problems and live up to their contract/warranty. I would not reccomend to anybody for any work.

They did come out and they had to make some adjustments in the cost.  They did not realize what I needed and how much soil I needed in some places.  It was not on the contract but that was ok.  They came out and did the landscaping and that was good.  There was a warranty on the plants.  They said that they could only give one month of the guarantee.

We had a very hot summer and I lost a few of the plants.  I had an agreement that they would come back out in the fall and they would take care of the things that needed to be taken care of in the fall.  He did not come and I was disappointed with that.  I was not pleased with that follow up.

I had to call them back again in February when I thought the water line might have frozen and I might have been loosing water.  He said he would be back and get a list of the plants that you need to have replaced and he didn't call and my nephew called and the person that answered the phone said that they will call back tomorrow.  After waiting for 2 weeks, I decided to do it myself.

I received an email contract from the company and I have just ignored it.  I did a lot of work myself so I don't need them to come back out.  They did put in a lawn irrigation system and only guaranteed it for one month.  They put in top soil and mulch and pavers were put in.  They did a beautiful job.  He did a stone work for me with a ledge seat.

The only thing that I disagree with is that he said he was going to come back and call and they did not.  He said that he was not the most expensive but not the cheapest either.  I would not use them in the future.  The work is great but there is no follow up!
Response from Fine Edge Design
"The origial contract was no warranty on the shrubs since they were planted in the heat of late Spring. It was constantly 95 - 97 degrees when the planting was installed. After many attempts to educate the customer on the downfalls of planting at that time of year, she insisted to finish the entire project. The irrigation system mentioned was just a simple drip system connected to a battery operated timer which was connected to the outside faucet. Something had to be done and a true irrigation system wasn't in the budget. We were also the ones who has to remove the tops of our stone columns and re-build them higher ( at no cost to anyone ) when the fence company she hired made the gates the wrong size. It wasn't a small fix and cost us somewhere in the neighborhood of $700. Tough one to swallow when it's not your fault and nobody else wants to take the blame. But, she was a very nice person to work with so we decided to help in any way we could. When we went back to fix the columns, I was amazed at the condition of the once beautiful landscape project. Weeds were everywhere, some 3' high. Several of the plants were dying from neglect, lack of water or both. I mentioned that we could replace them in the Fall when it was a better time to plant. Well, Fall rolls around and she did call to let us know that several plants were dead. We made a site visit and counted 22 dead plants along with more rampant weeds. I try to tell people to let me know as soon as you see a struggling plant because most of the time we can save it. But to call us after the plants are dead really doesn't make it easy to save them. Especially when that many have died because nobody was even trying to take care of them. We use premium organic planting mix and organic fertilizer and we never have anywhere near that failure rate. Granted, we did take a little longer than usual to get an estimate to her for the replacements but at that specific time, we were very busy and I was under the impression she thought they were under warranty. As hard as we try to please everyone, there is no way we can meet our customers' expectations for every single thing. This is how some in the service industry get a bad name. Most people don't see the little things we do while on site that they don't get charged for. And then when you manage to have one little slip-up, BANG!!! That's when they let you have it. I wish I could clone myself so I could be at every customers beck and call but it just can't work that way. We take immense pride in our work and it shows in the quality and attention to detail that we provide. Are we perfect? No. Nobody is. But we never stop trying."

Dave, Mike and Justin are the best! Not only do they all listen to the customer they ask questions. That's an awesome way to do business when you have to please a customer who lives at your jobsite! We knew we would have to deal with alot of mud. We have two dogs who don't like to go for walkies, they LOVE to run around the backyard and chase the local cats away! Prepared like it was for war, we dealt with the muddy doggie feet for a few weeks and boy was it worth it. Dave and his crew worked everyday it didn't rain and was always consistent with the workload. He communicated with us as to what was next, told us when we needed to expect an arrival of materials and made very helpful suggestions on lawn care and such. We even expanded our initial plans and Dave was instep the whole way. One day Dave came to me and wanted to know what design I wanted him to cut on the ends of the pergola beams. He liked my choice and went with it. My whole backyard looks totally awesome. There is not one point I can think of that I would change, even with the construction process! I love to go out and just stand under my new cedar pergola! Speaking of cedar, I had wanted to use cedar for its outstanding weather resistance. Dave could easily get rough sawn planks and 6x6's at a decent price so we went with those. I had wanted smoothed wood and since I am a woodworker I had a 13" planer to smooth out the wood with. Dave was awed by this and went with it. We spent a couple hours planing the wood and it looks wonderful. I was impressed with the fact that Dave and the guys didn't mind letting me, a woman, work with them. We now call him Uncle Dave and tell our doggie children that they will have to answer to him if they tear up our new sod. Dave and the guys have been gone only 3 hours and we already miss them. I am sad to see them go, but I guess we can't get keep them from making other people happy wioth their yards! We love you guys! We'll call in the Spring when we are scheduling a party to show off the new backyard!
