DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. Damaged some of my property. Refused to pay. Refused to provide business insurance info. Had to file c a complaint w/ Department of Justice Consumer Protection Division. They will respond w/ long winded excuses and lies but trust me DO NOT DO IT.
Response from Burgess Flooring
"We voluntarily offered to replace the shell of a dishwasher door for the client because she accused us of scratching it (even though she had installed it herself days before, according to she & her husband). She stated it MUST be replaced by a GE tech or it would void her warranty (GE has since stated this is false). She arranged for a tech to install the door shell for a quoted price of $100 after I purchased the shell from GE and had it shipped to my home and dropped it off to her son at her home. I have a signed document from her stating the repair would be $100. After the tech came and left the client emailed me a receipt for $393.98. She had scribbled all over this and changed the price to $231.88 I asked her about the discrepancies, she became irate and began screaming at me so I disconnected the call. I then called GE about the "invoice" who told me that that was not an invoice, it was a repair estimate and the client paid nothing on that estimate. While I was sorting this out with GE, the client called and left me several messages, including one that threatened her coming to my home(she has previously been arrested for assault & battery). Once I had all the information from GE I called the client back and told her what they said. She repeatedly used foul language while screaming at me telling me GE was lying and later decided that the technician from GE pocketed the cash she paid him and she would handle the situation with GE. I simply have asked repeatedly for a paid receipt, not estimate of repair, emailed to me from GE and I will reimburse the technicians bill and the client refuses to give me the receipt or allow GE to email a copy of the receipt. I stopped speaking with the client once she decided she was going to call her homeowners insurance. I told her I would sort it out with them. Since then she has threatened a police report will be filed, she would leave negative reviews all over the internet, and she would file a complaint with DOJ Consumer Protection. All I ask for is a receipt. I'd be happy to provide any and all documentation to anyone who would like to see it. I have the right to refuse to give her my insurance information, per my insurance company because we were paying out of pocket for the repairs because it was cheaper for us this way. I have tried resolving the issue over and over with the client, however, she refuses to cooperate and continues to try and damage our companies reputation."

Joe botched our hardwood floor installation on 11/20. Contacted Tina on 11/21 about the boards being shifted and large gaps throughout half the floor. They blamed the problems on bad milling and said they'd hold the check. 12/5 the check was cashed "accidentally" and wood was on order.  12/17 I contact - still hadn't ordered wood. 1/6 I contact - still hadn't ordered wood. 1/13 I contact - still hadn't ordered wood.  January deadline given. No contact again until 1/27 when the flooring inspector I hired calls her. Report found that Joe installed wrong, voided my warranty, and that the entire floor needed to be replaced.  1/28 Tina admits they were liable, says she'll pay for the replacement wood. 2/5 sends refund for installation and only $700 of $2300 in replacement wood stating that they decided that was a fair amount.
Anyone can contact me for a copy of the flooring inspection or conversations. Joe is a sloppy contractor and they don't stand behind
their work at all. They had almost three months and didn't even order wood, then got mad at me for hiring an inspector that proved not only were they at fault but that their original plan for repair was insufficient. Tina also lied in her response to my facebook review then
blocked me so I couldn't respond.
Response from Burgess Flooring
"The reviewer is correct, we did accidentally cash her check, and we also offered to immediately refund the cashed check, with our check or cash. After a day or two of trying to meet with her to refund the check, she told us her 'husband" said not to worry about the refund. She is also correct in the fact that we tried ordering wood that was UNAVAILABLE from the same company she ordered it from. We had to wait until it came back into stock before we could order it. Once the wood came back into stock I told her I was going to order it and she stated she already had. When I asked her for a receipt for reimbursement, she provided me with a screenshot of a shopping cart. The pictures our previous client provided on this post are 1) a picture of the ends of wood at the wall which SHOULD be covered by quarter round, but the client opted not to pay for installation of quarter round, and the vent cover hole which she never purchased vent covers for. There is no need to make perfect cuts for something you will never see if you finish the job. Our previous client also opted not purchase the required barrier for her floor, and after a conversation with Joe, gave him the go ahead to install the flooring without any type of barrier, which voided her warranty. When Joe spoke with her regarding her uneven subfloor, some beams higher than other which caused an unlevel surface for install, she looked around and said everything looked great and told him to finish it and left. She came home, examined the floor and paid Joe, and was very pleased with the install. 2) In the first photo the board is slightly smaller than other boards, but with the product she purchased, it is stated that all boards will not be perfect because of the wood she chose. We offered to pull all the wood and correct any areas she was not happy with, and install the underlayment which she chose not to do the first time and she chose not to do that. This was going to be done free of charge, even after we refunded the installation charges, plus an additional $220.00. We did everything possible to make this client happy. We charge her $500 for installation and this install has now cost us $3400.00. We feel as though this client has intentionally set us up for failure and has gone above and beyond to try to ruin our company and reputation. Please also note that I received a phone call from another flooring company that did her main living area installation and she also was unhappy with their installation and did much of the same to them. The client ended up hiring another company to reinstall new flooring in the 2 rooms we installed flooring in and did not disclose to them that in the inspection report it states that her subfloor is no level and HAD to be repaired before any wood floor could be installed, which she did not do. I bring up these other issues with flooring companies because it shows a repeat pattern of the client as a consumer. Sometimes it isn't the companies, it can also be the clients."

This is the second time we have had Burgess Flooring come out and do work.  The first time was the laminate in the kitchen and living room and then this time it was to finish it off by doing all 3 bedrooms.  They showed up on time and got to work and finished up in record time!  This included carpet tear out and also helping to move a few larger pieces of furniture out of the way.  We plan on having them back to tile a couple of bathrooms in the future and they definitely will be the ones we call if we get another home and need the flooring done!

We decided to go with Joe after our first experience with him. In our first experience he replaced the flooring in a home we sold and installed bamboo floors and carpet throughout. Because of his excellent service and professionalism then, we knew he would be the only person we'd call 2 year later to do the same work on a rental property. Great job and service!

Had work done by Joe last August, but just joined Angie's List and felt compelled to write a review due to such a positive experience.  Worked with Tina to get the estimate and she was beyond responsive and helpful; answering many questions I had completely and quickly.  Joe came over right when scheduled and knocked out our floors in about 2 days.  We thought there was no way he could get it all done in the time frame he suggested (2-3 days) but he exceeded expectations.  Work was flawless and the finished product really transformed the feel of our house.  We could not be happier with the cost, responsiveness, and craftsmanship provided by Burgess Flooring.

"Thank you for taking the time to review our business. Being that the job was performed over a year ago it means much more to us because it shows that Joes work has lived up to expectations after a length of time has passed. We appreciate it! ~Joe and Tina Burgess"

Tina and Joe are one of the best contracting teams we've ever worked with [and we have worked with many].
Tina is the admin side of the business and worked with us on scheduling, estimating and logistics.  We scheduled 3 weeks in advance.  She was patient to provide a thorough run through of our materials list.  She made a couple of suggestions to save a little money in the materials process.  She reconfirmed the crew 72 hours in advance.
Joe is the owner/operator of the business.  He does not sub the work out.  He is at all the jobs and had one helper on-site.  His work is outstanding.  He is very meticulous about his cuts and the nail down work is top notch.  No noticeable creaking or cracking.  The stair work was well thought out and executed as well.  He did just under 1000 sq ft of hardwood in 3 days.
We are really happy with Burgess Flooring and will hire them again in our next home.

Part of the reason it was so inexpensive was because we had purchased all of the materials already, thinking we were going to do it ourselves and pulled the sink and vanity and changed our minds. We had already purchased the tiles and the grout and the baseboard and the sealer. His service was great. He was very prompt. They came in and did it all in one day. It was a small bathroom but he was just very efficient. He started out by blowing all the leaves and debris off of the sidewalk so that he and his worker wouldn't track anything into the house because they set up the table saw in the front yard. He was very good about telling me, hey we are going to let the dry, we will be back in a couple of hours to finish doing it. They were just very unobtrusive as they could be with an air compressor and whatnot in the house.

D  for Disaster! We used Joe Burgess' services to remove existing flooring and install glue down engineered hardwood floors. The floor started to "pop" all over the place after just a few days post install. The shoe molding was cut and placed unevenly and wood putty was slopped on as an attempt to cover it. He also scratched the new floor in few places, and made a few dents in the walls as well as an end table. As soon as I noticed that the floor started to come unglued , I texted and called him and his wife. Unfortunately, I noticed the popping about 20 minutes after I gave him a check for his work. I thought  of cancelling it, but I still had a hope that he would return and fix the issues. I also talked to his wife, Tina, and she assured me that he can fix the problem. Weeks later and a few more phone calls, he still did not call, although he had time to cash the check.

After writing my first review, Tina finally reached out in attempt to resolve the issue. She informed me that they were in a rush to leave on vacation and mistakes were made. I understood completely and was willing to give them another chance to fix all the problems. The second time Joe came over (30 minutes late), when I asked him HOW he planned to fix the damaged items, he got agitated and said he is going to replace shoe mold that was cracked in half due to too many too thick nails and put more wood putty to cover uneven cuts because it is very difficult to cut a 45 degree angle and he is not going to do it (talking about being in business for 13 years!). That was not what I was looking for as a repair. After Angie's List got involved, Tina said that they are willing to do the repairs only if I leave my own house. Obviously I was not comfortable to leave my own house and allow someone who already caused damage to do ?repairs? that we already discussed and I did not like.

At the very beginning there was a miscommunication. Tina provided an estimate over the phone that was $1200. Joe came over to check out the job site and confirm the estimate. My husband offered to pay extra for renting a glue down hardwood removal machine ($300) to make sure the old floor is removed neatly and the slab was clear of all debree and ready for a new floor. Previously I got several quotes for the job so I knew to ask if the estimate includes shoe mold and a glue as those items are expensive. Tina said that the estimate includes everything. When Joe showed up to do the job, he said that they do not provide neither glue nor shoe mold. He also did not rent the machine to remove the floor. After an argument and obvious miscommunication and not to lose the day of work we agreed that we will pay for the glue and Joe will pay for the shoe mold. Unfortunately, hardware stores did not have enough hardwood shoe mold in stock so my husband had to buy about 20-30ft of laminate shoe mold. When the job was completed Joe not only did not subtract the price for the shoe mold as we agreed, but charged us extra $150 for the machine that he has not rented. His rational was that the had to do it by hand and it was difficult. Duh! That what was the original plan.

Apparently I am not the only one who has an issue with the way Burgess Flooring runs its business. There is another review (off Angie?s list) where Joe tried to overcharge his customer and did a poor job installing the floor and shoe mold. Too bad I saw it too late. I also talked to few contractors to do the repairs and they all were amazed at how poorly the job was done.

The bottom line - Joe Burgess has no business installing flooring. He runs an unprofessional business and does not take pride in his work. I always try to write good reviews as I understand that is how the company makes first impression on most potential customers. I  DO NOT recommend using his services. Below are just a few pictures I took to show his ?master craft?.
Response from Burgess Flooring
"We contacted [Member's Name removed] to resolve the issue a few months ago, but we were headed out of town and so was she. We jointly decided to wait until both parties were done with summer vacation to do the repairs. We discussed that Joe would come in and replace the shoe moulding that needed replacing and repair the pops in the floor and how they would be repaired. When Joe arrived to start the repairs she informed Joe (my husband) that I told her we would replace all the shoe moulding in the home. He told her no, he was going to replace the problem areas. Originally the homeowner purchased a cheaper, composite shoe moulding for her project because it was a rushed install and they didn't have time or funding to get real wood shoe moulding. When Joe arrived to do the repairs not only did she want the entire area done with new shoe moulding, she wanted us to purchase the upgraded all wood shoe moulding. She insisted that I told her we would. I never said such a thing, because I know the price difference is not reasonable. I would have never agreed to it. She pushed and pushed Joe, arguing with him to the point that he felt like he needed to leave before things got out of hand. We were more than willing to repair the portions of the project that she was unhappy with, we were not willing to upgrade her flooring because she didn't purchase what she needed or wanted the first time. So, due to her demands, we were unable to complete the needed repairs on the flooring. If she had allowed us to do the repairs as agreed over the phone prior to arrival, she would not have had to hire someone else to come in and do the repairs. Also, the reason that the original job was more than the estimate is because there was more work added when Joe arrived to complete the original job. The client has also stated to me that she has had problems in the past and had to hire someone else come in to do repairs because the other companies refused to come back as well. These are her words. This shows a pattern of behavior. We have an outstanding reputation and we are very caring people, but we will not give into unreasonable demands of clients because they are pushy and bully my husband. Joe will come in and do the needed repairs, but it will be when [Member's name removed] is not at home, and he is allowed to complete the job without being harassed. He will replace the shoe moulding as needed, in the areas needed, with the same shoe moulding that she originally purchased. We will not pay for an upgraded shoe moulding. There comes a time when one gives in and stops trying to defend themselves because it is too exhausting to keep up with the untruth. I would ask anyone reading this review to PLEASE read our other reviews. We have a perfect rating if you disregard this review and we are proud of this. We are getting blasted all over the internet with this same review being copied and pasted, but with different names, and, luckily, other companies are not allowing the reviews to stand because whoever is doing it did not use their services to hire us. With that, and the fact she claims we have other reviews like hers on Angie's List with the same claims, which you can clearly see is not true, I would ask that you look beyond her statements to the statements of every other review on Angie's List. Thank you- Tina and Joe"

Over the many months that it took my wife to finally decide on a replacement wood that suited her, Joe and his wife Tina were patiently there every step of the way for us.  Joe even drove over to look at some Brazilian Cherry flooring that my wife later decided was just "too light".  Once we finally purchased our new flooring from our local Lowe's and had it delivered, Joe and his helper were able to remove all the old 3.5" flooring and reinstall the new 5" flooring in only two days.  My wife was worried that this big project was going to leave our home in a mess from all the dust that would be generated as the wood was removed and replaced but when Joe left you would never even have known he had been there (other than our beautiful new floor of course).   When Joe was done we were both 100% pleased with the result and my wife is not the easiest person to impress.  Joe provided professional advice before the job, and delivered professional results during the job for what turned out to be an exceptional price.  We will be replacing the carpet in our bedrooms sometime later this year and I will not hesitate to use Joe again for that job.  I can without hesitation, give Joe and Tina my highest possible recommendation.  You cannot go wrong with Burgess Flooring.

After having had a very bad experience with "Empire Flooring" we decided to search Angie's List for someone to install our floors.  We decided to call Joe (Burgess Flooring) after seeing the postive reviews and the work on his website.  On the day Joe arrived to give us an estimate, he arrived on time and was very professional and courteous and remained this way throughout the entire process.  What I appreciate most about Joe is his patience with me and my husband.  This was our first time undergoing such a project..  We had LOTS of questions about types of flooring, pricing, measurements, ETC...To the average contractor we would have been very annoying, but Joe was very patient and helpful.  On the day of the install Joe and his team arrived on time and worked very efficiently.  Overall, the experience was exceptional and we would highly recommend and use Joe again.

My experience with Burgess Flooring was great. Communication with Joe/Tina were great. They answered all my questions and did a quality job. I had all the flooring replaced in my home. All the work was completed in less than 3 days. Completely satisfied. We are planing to have two full baths and laundry room flooring changed to tile in the future. Burgess Flooring will do the work.

Contacted the company via Angies List and discussed work to be done by company and what work we as the customer would do.  Was able to communicate with company via e-mail and telephone successfully.

Company returned a quote for work to be performed and they broke it down by area.  We were not sure we had enough funding to do all that we wanted to do.

Based on the great prices we were able to do quite a few areas.

Company contaced us to establish a dates and times for installation.  (This big of a job took 2 days).

Company contacted us the day before schedule install to ensure we were still ready for the work to be done.

Company arrived on time.  They actually went to work as soon as they walked in the door and definitely was not slow about it.  They actually exhausted me.  I felt they needed to slow down.

Completed areas and communicated with us for some items that we needed to purchase.

Left on day 1 leaving the areas clean and safe for our family.

Arrived on time on day 2, began work immediately and worked throughout the day to fully complete the job.
