Helms Electrical Contracting & Service Company

Mr Helms listened to what we warned done and explained how he would do it. We read about the whole house surge protector on the internet but were unsure what was involved. He explained why it would be a good idea since we live in a high electrical storm state. To install the protector was not expensive so we decided to have it done. Mr Helm came with his two man crew to perform the job. He showed them what needed to be done and left. They worked all day and completed the job. Mr Helm called later that night to make sure everything was done the way we wanted it. We assured him we were happy with the results. His workers were very professional.

Mr. Helms always gets back promptly and can usually get any work done within a couple of days.  Many of my fixtures are 25+ years old but he has kept everything working, and when something had to be replaced was able to shuffle lights around so the ornamental ones are still in the places where they will show.

I needed someone fast to install a grounding wire in order to proceed with the sale of my home. Time was of the essence and Helms Electrical & stepped up to the plate and got the job done in a very quick and professional manner.

The 220 VAC circuit somehow was severed overnight.  After testing continuity and crawling through my crawlspace, they examined the location where the power line penetrated the concrete floor of the well house.  Discovered that the wire was broken just beneath the surface of the concrete.  Removed enough concrete and soil to effect an underground waterproof splice.  Rewired from the splice to the junction box, and mounted the junction box in the proper location adjacent to the pressure valve.  Very professional and pleasant to work with.  I'll definitely remember this company for future work, and will recommend them when I can.

Working with Ron was a great experience.  He was able to come out to my house about an hour after I called him and had everything fixed within about an hour of arriving.  I'm so glad that I called him.  I will call him again for future electrical problems.

Overall they did a great job. Checked all the outlets prior to beginning work. We thought we would be able to add to existing panel and original estimate was given based on that. We did have to add a subpanel so cost went up. They did give us new estimate prior to performing any work. Electrician was knowledgeable about what he was doing. He and his partner completed the work and labeled everything for future reference. Cleaned up the area before they left.

They were prompt, courteous and helpful.  They even went to buy the new bulbs!!!  We were surprised by the amount of the bill but in defense it had been a long time since we have had an electrician at this house.

I completely remodeled my kitchen, and the contractor's electrician had been slow to respond to my repeated requests for an estimate on the kitchen lighting portion of the remodel.  The contractor then recommended Helms Electrical.  Ron and Marshall Helms responded immediately to my phone call and set up an appointment for the following day to review my needs.  They arrived on time and began their assessment.  The old ugly 4' fluorescent light had to go!  They checked the attic area over the kitchen for access to run the new lighting and then provided advice on the types of lights (incandescent, LED, halogen) available.  Because of their advice, I chose LED lights.  A date was set for the installation to accommodate the remainder of the kitchen remodel, and they arrived on time and set to work immediately.  Ron Helms engineered the placement of the can lights and oversaw the entire job.  He and his son Marshall completed the work quickly and cleaned up afterward.  
   Because the dining room chandelier had not arrived by the date of the kitchen light installation, an appointment was made for the following week to change out the old fixture for the new chandelier.  Again, the Helms team arrived exactly on time, worked quickly to install a ceiling medallion and the new chandelier, and cleaned up after themselves.
   I am so impressed with my new lighting!  Not only is it attractive, but also it is very practical.  I have plenty of light to work in my new kitchen, and I credit Helms Electrical with helping me to make the right decision.   I wanted "light as bright as the sun" in my work space, and I have it!  I highly recommend Helms Electrical and I will use them again for any electrical needs.

Mr. Helms and his son came out as promise on a rainy cold day.They looked at the area and told me what we needed done could be done on that day. I was very please with their work and my new dryer.My husband wasn't at home so when he came and they had completed the work he to was please, until I told him how much it cost and the discount that was given.We had the cording but not the
three prong outlet cover.
Other than that we're please and would call them again with a understanding that we need a better senior discount.

Mr. Helms was professional, explained the source of the problem, and fixed it without fuss. We would use Helms again and felt the service was very good, the pricing fair. He's an honest business man. 

They are wonderful.  I love their people.

Helms Electrical were responsive and punctual and were very pleasant to work with.  Only concern was with the price charged for the work.  They did not need to send two people to trouble shoot an electrical problem.  My mistake was not finding out the hourly rate ahead of time and specifically requesting one person only.  Both things I did not expect from a contractor rated quite highly on Angie's List.  I have had other electrical work done, involving much more time and effort that did not cost this much and where one person was able to do all of it.
Update on 2/17/2012:  As the issue has not been resolved, I am not at all happy with the service provided or the price charged.

Very good experience.  Would hire again.  Only suggestion to potential customers is to be very specific in what you want done and in what order you want it done.  Make sure you prioritize the work as you want it done.

They were very punctual.  They came out the next day that I called them.  They were very straight forward and finished right on time. It was an all around great experience.

We have used this company for electrical work since we moved to Charlotte 18 months ago. They have always been consistently honest, punctual and very professional. This occasion was no exception. Would recommend them without hesitation.

They were on time, and did a good  job.  They were very knowledgeable and even found some things that our house inspector overlooked.

We researched various companies and though we weren't members of Angie's List at the time, we were able to see that Helms Electrical had a good rating.  We read reviews online and then gave Helms a call.  Mr. Helms answered the phone and set up an appointment convenient for us.  He was punctual, professional and arrived prepared to work.  He patiently listened to us explain the issue and then promptly resolved our electrical problem. He also took the time to educate us on the wiring in our home.  We were impressed with the overall experience and would not hesitate to call Helms again for any of our electrical needs and highly recommend them to family and friends.

I was very pleased with his services. He was able to answer all my questions and gave me great suggestions. He was personable and accommodating. He was willing to come out on Saturday. He never acted rushed and he took his time in my home.

Reached Ron on the first try. He was very accommodating and we set up a service call for later that week. Ron was extremely thorough in the assessment of our electrical work. We've noticed flickering lights from time to time when our A/C starts up. Ron ruled out any wiring problems in our home and determined that the load coming from the A/C was within specs. He took his time, made meticulous notes, and thoroughly explained his findings. In the end, we have peace of mind and highly recommend Ron's services.

They arrived right on time. They were very professional. They explained the inspection and assured me everthing was working fine. They installed the X10 coupler. Next time I need an electrian it will be them.

DELIGHTED! During a thunderstorm last night, a couple of circuits in our house blew out. After checking for tripped circuit breakers (the extent of my 'expertise'), I searched for an electrician on the Shepherd's Guide and found Helms Electrical. Then I checked them on Angie's List, confirming their great service record. Responsiveness & Punctuality: I dialed the company at about 6:15am, realized their hours of operation are 8-5, and hung up before anyone answered. The owner dialed me back a few minutes later, listened to my description of the problem, and committed to squeeze me in prior to lunch. As it turns out, the owner called me at 7:45 and arrived at my house at 8:15. Professionalism: Mr. Helms kept me apprised of his work throughout. He showed me the damage inside the circuit breaker panel, letting me know how long the work should take (after his original assessment), and that he needed to leave to obtain a part. Based on the type of damage to our system, he suggested (but in NO way tried to 'sell') a whole-house surge/lightening protector system, explained what that system would (and would not) do, and left me plenty of time to do some research and make an informed decision (we decided TO have the device added while he was there). Quality: The work appeared well organized, and Mr. Helms cleaned as he went. I viewed the work he did in the breaker box and it was very professionally done. Price: This was NOT money I had planned to spend this week (!), but the labor cost was very reasonable, and I found the additional lightening/surge protector installed was very well priced. In summary -- I was simply DELIGHTED with Helms Electrical -- and I'll absolutely call them again for any future electrical work.
