We had a new addition of a mudroom and a basement finish. We took several quotes from companies and while M&B / Mike Brown wasn't the cheapest he seemed honest. I like to support small business and didn't mind that it would take him a little longer than a larger outfit. Mike hung the sheetrock to the mudroom. The area around the door opening had uneven corners and appeared to need another coat and sanding to even it out. The corner seams on the 45 degree areas were very wavy and uneven. In addition, the walls were bumpy and appeared to need a good sanding. On the outside of the mudroom there is a piece missing that wasn't finished. Mike said he could place the missing piece of wood that the framer forgot. Mike also told me that if I put the board up there he would come finish it. Either way, he never came back to complete it. In the basement, Mike had another company come in and hang the sheetrock. Since the electrical was already in place he charged me an additional amount to hand cut around the boxes instead of using an electric tool. However, the company he had to install the sheetrock cut around the outside of the box using the tool. This left the electrical outlets and switches no where to rest against the sheetrock as they are meant to be and left the openings too big for the electrical covers. I had to install spacers and larger covers to compensate for this. This cost me additional money to correct. Mike did the mud work for the basement and primed it for me. On the ceiling, you could see every seam and on the walls several seams also showed there as well. One window where it was sheetrocked there was corning beading applied but not a full piece. This left a bump in the middle of the bottom edge. As with the Mudroom, where there were 45 degree areas and some corners it was wavy and rough. In one closet where the walls came together at an odd angle he told me that I would have to caulk it because it was imposible to get his tools in to work on it. Mike told me to go ahead and paint then he would come back and do a point up. I started the ceiling but became so disappointed with the quality that I stopped. I called and emailed him to ask him to come back on several different occasions but he would not respond. I hired another company to come in and fix his work and it cost me an additional $1,000 to fix. They were able to fix most of what he left including the odd angled closet wall but because a couple of areas were so badly done there are a few imperfections. I was very disappointed with the quality of his work and his customer service. I cannot recommend him.
