Watson iron and steel did our railing for our back porch in 2019. They had to come back and make some corrections, but all in all, we were pleased with their work. We had them come back out a few months ago to measure for our new railing on our front porch. We told the man who came out to literally replicate the railings THEY made to match the back porch exactly. He looked and the back railings, measured the height, the distance between the pickets, etc. I was very clear, and he seemed to understand perfectly… it was simple “just make the exact same thing you made last time.” Yep, got it! Well apparently it wasn’t as simple as it seemed! On the order, they added additional posts instead of screwing into our pillars, and they added twice as many pickets. The communication between the man who came to take our order and the woman who executed the order was obviously quite poor. They told us that they needed to come out and measure again since we didn’t want the additional posts, and even though it was their error, they still charged us an additional fee because they had to make another trip out. We argued endlessly about the fee, but finally gave up and just paid the fee. It was ridiculous. fast forward to today… It still isn’t what we asked for! They did screw the railing into our columns instead of installing additional posts. But we still have twice as many pickets out front as we do in the back. It looks tacky, and after shelling out over $3K for the tiny railing, I hate it. I asked my husband what he wanted to do about it, and he said not to bother because there’s no way they’re going to fix it now that we have already paid them. Isn’t that sad? That we’re not even going to bother trying to work things out with these people because we know they won’t do it. And don’t forget, we’re repeat customers. ? I wish there were more iron companies in and around Charlotte, but sadly, this seems to be the only one. The first picture is our back porch railing. There are 6 inches between the pickets. The second picture is our front porch. There are 3 inches between each packet. They definitely don’t match.

Not good! Iron railings rusted three weeks after installation! I called Watson Steel and Iron and spoke with Eric, who answered the phone. After describing the problem, Eric was very abrupt and stated that we were on our own after installation. They would not send anyone to come and look at the rust. He said that iron will rust. I told him that properly painted iron will not rust within three weeks! He offered no help, other than telling me where to buy the paint. I do not advise anyone to hire Watson Steel and Iron.

"Thanks for the time you took to provide constructive criticism. You seem to forget we clearly tell customers that Iron will rust and needs maintenance. You signed that statement in your proposal. We offered you a non rusting option but you declined. Sorry you’re not happy. It would take less than 10 minutes for you to do the maintenance."

Iron railing rusting after 2 months from installation? Told "that's just the way it is with iron". 2 months is pretty terrible quality. Most people will tell you that if properly painted, iron railings will last for many years. Not these people or their products.

It went well. Watson Steel and Iron Works came out and measured the damaged railing, gave me a price fairly quickly and called me when it was finished and ready to be installed. They scheduled a date and showed up to install it when they said they would. I had to have the railing updated to meet code. It looks great and was reasonably priced.

Watson representative first came to take measurements and discuss design. He was very professional and thorough. Watson installers were also very professional, timely and expert in their trade. Extremely pleased with everything including contacts from the office advising when work would be done, etc.

Great, they were quick to respond and installed in less than normal time! They were so great to work with, very courteous and professional. They installed our neighborhood's mailboxes originally and knew right off which was ours so they could custom make it.

Watson was very friendly and professional from the initial contract, to the measurement, to the quote, to the installation, to the follow up. While at my house I was able to see some handrails they had made of other customers. The workmanship was exceptional. I would give them an A+ if I could. It would be great if all contractors were this easy to work with.

They went to great lenghts to accommodate us. We needed a small amount of brick repair work done before the rest of the railing could be completed and it took awhile to find a brick mason to tackle this. Watson worked with us patiently throughout the whole process. They were always polite and helpful. We love our new railings! They did an outstanding job at a reasonable price. We will choose them again whenever we need this type of work done. Thank you Watson!
