Recently had him come out for landscaping and tree removal. The job was clear brush, lay mulch, aerate/seed, and remove tree. We talked, he took notes and then measurements. His measurements came up very short and he didn’t take note of what was said in our conversation. I wanted mulch to cover everything with as little maintenance in shrubs as possible. He is willing to fix mistakes he made as long as you pay the extra. He used two differrent colors in the mulch so I have patches of dark brown /black in my brown mulch. Overall the job was completed with a shortage in the mulch and the edging all of which he measured. At that point I gave up because it was going to be more cost/labor to fix his mistakes. I’ll just go to Lowe’s and get more mulch and spread it myself to finish the job. As for the darker colors in the mulch, they’ll eventually fade.

John breached the contract by committing to service our property and then coming back a few months later after he had done a terrible job maintaining it, claiming he needed more money each month and could not continue under the contract he committed to. Utterly ridiculous that he came back asking for more money while plainly performing a terrible job at what he was paid to do even after we gave him multiple chances to redeem himself at and at his request at times. We entered a yearly contract which contained equal monthly payments. We paid him for an initial cleanup which took several attempts because of the sloppy job that was being performed. We then paid for Maintence during the month of December at over 200 for coming out 2x and blowing some leaves around my yard. The month of January was another dumpster fire. I contacted John several times after they supposedly came out in which I notified him on the sloppy appearance of the property upon their departure. In the end, John breached the contract by doing a sloppy job and then notifying us that he would not fulfill his contract and wanted to raise the price on another one. We notified him that a fair resolution at that point would be to not pay for January due to their non performance during the month and the fact that they would not be coming back during the summer which is when the more frequent visits would have balanced out the winter monthly charges. John has since continued to harass us with rambling incoherent communication and demands which in my opinion sounds like someone who is inebriated when he communicates at times considering his abrupt and garbled, caustic tone. John comes off as emotionally unstable and unpredictable due to the nature of his interactions with us. Even in previous communications he responded to the our complaints about the level of service in the past with extreme defensiveness but then will seem contrite at times and admit that the work that was done was unacceptable. I honestly just want him to go away and leave my family alone and stop harassing us. This company is a nightmare to deal with and honestly not sure what to expect from him next. I am considering my options at this point to encourage him to stop the harassment.

"I started with [Member Name Removed] when the property was a disaster. It looked like nothing had been done for many months. He had large branches from all the trees laying everywere and leaves over 1 foot thick. One of the problems was [Member Name Removed] misled me on how much of the property needed to be maintained after I quoted him based on a certain square footage. The remainder of the property was covered with leaves and looked like a natural area. I brought this up and he said we would adjust the contract later. [Member Name Removed] would complain and say we did not come, just blew the property. We left slips on services performed, which included spraying for weeds on the natural areas and the turf grass, and pruning, etc. Not everything can be perfect in the winter. As anyone knows, in the winter things usually don't look lush. He also had a beech tree that drops its leaves in the winter over his patio. One night he texted and said we did not pick up the leaves. I was there and we did, but that day we had 20-30 MPH winds that made the tree drop more leaves on his patio. After that I texted back and said I wanted to drop the service because it was impossible to make him happy. He texted back and stated he was wrong and we were doing a good job. He also was unhappy that his trampoline had leaves in it. It had sides that didn't have flaps to easily clean it. I said its not traditionally landscaping maintenance but still we cleaned it out. I said I would buy a tarp to put over the trampoline to keep out leaves and he said no. I said I was misled with the property and wanted to adjust the amount by 10% because of the extra grass to be aerated, seeded, cut, and fertilized along with weed control. He did not want to continue and I said fine. Then he didn't want to pay. By the way, the initial $400 dollars was about 23 man hours and with the fuel etc I pay my guys I did not make money, which is fine. I am defensive when a person makes false claims against meand my business and fails to look in the mirror at the type of person he is. I am not perfect and have a lot of customers that know I do what I say. I've been in business over 10 years and have maintained a high rating with Angie's list. Its funny that any low reviews I have received are from customers that don't want to pay their bills My previous review is a A on a $12,000 retaining wall. You be the judge."

John the owner and his assistant Louis did all the work. They demolished and disposed the original wall. Then dug the footing for the new wall . Filled this with gravel and installed a french drain. The wall and the stairs were built. They spent approximately 8 working days. They worked around the wet weather and were communicative about the downtime necessary for some drying time. John and Louis are meticulous and took pride in their work. john has followed up to make sure no unforeseen issues have come up since the job completion. I would use them again.

Not well. I had a beautiful lush lawn to start with. I am an absentee property owner, so I was clear in my instructions that I needed complete care and to communicate with me whenever we needed to change our watering settings AND to keep the gates closed in our fenced in section because we had a young puppy. They communicated only once about the lawn watering (they told us we watered the yard too much and for us to cut back, which we did). They did cut, trim and blow the yard weekly. No complaints with that. However, the yard became over run by weeds; brown patch took out too much of the yard, despite my pleas to treat the yard earlier than they finally treated the yard; the grass started to die because of lack of watering (per their instructions); and despite many complaints, they repeatedly left the fence gate open. Finally, I told them if they did it again, I would have to terminate their services. They did and I did. When I told them I was terminating them, I also told them of all of the other issues I was having with the lack of complete lawn care I was receiving. He acted as if this was a surprise despite the fact he knew I was an absentee owner and their person should have reported the lawn and landscaping issues to him weekly (obviously not since he seemed surprised at all of the issues I was having and that I was not happy). When he came over to personally look at my yard at my request, he also mentioned my roses had a virus. When were they planning on telling me this and more importantly, do something about it. Apparently, if he didn't personally come over, my roses would have died because the guy servicing my yard clearly didn't see that issue. There were other more minor issues, but basically, you get the point. And to have the right to terminate the contract with them despite what I considered less than complete lawn and landscaping care, I have to pay a $140 termination fee (the normal amount is one month's service which was $285) for no service provided. Bottom line, they were significantly more expensive than my previous lawn care company and delivered much poorer quality work. I would not hire them again nor can I give them a better evaluation. I relied and trusted on them to be my eyes on my lawn and landscaping. Instead, I feel taken advantage of since I could not supervise their work being gone so much.
Response from TLC-The Landscape Company
"I never dealt with [Member Name Removed] and every time I was there she wouldn't answer the door. I did speak with [Member Name Removed] and he was often away. We left notes on watering the lawn and they never responded. It is impossible to have a beautiful fescue lawn without water in the summer when we have 90 + degree tempertures in the Charlotte area. They have a track record of dropping a company when they agree on a 12 month agreement. [Member Name Removed] just wanted to stop the service without complaints of the lawn before this. The one complaint was the gate left open. I was told the last company was let go earlier too without warning. They are mad that I wanted a cancellation fee when they were with me for a little over 6 months. I agree the new guy did leave the gate open. He was told so it was our fault, I have a company that I am proud of."

They did a very good job. John Troeschel is the owner and his work ethic is something you don't see a lot these days. He stands behind his work and is very responsive to any requests I have made. Lewis also worked with him and worked very hard as well. I would highly recommend them to anyone and I will absolutely use them again.

REPOSTED SINCE MARCH TO ADD PHOTOS..... Not good. We received a few quotes, but liked John very much, so decided to have him do the work. Unfortunately for all of us, he had never done this type of stonework before. We first authorized him to proceed in late Sept. Called him in October, but he was having difficulty getting and keeping an assistant (the stones are VERY heavy). He promised to call me a day before he starts work. But, in early December, I get a call saying he'll be there that day. What? I'm at work. Calls back and forth, but finally the steps were PARTIALLY done just before Christmas. Again, there were assistant issues and other things (steps weren't level, trailer breakdown, we went on vacation, etc) that occurred to delay things until late January. He couldn't fix the unevenness of the steps since he had already completed pouring the concrete behind them. Unfortunately, we now have to find someone else to fix our steps since they are difficult to walk on. The second photo shows the new stone steps from above and shows how they are unevenly spaced.

Great. John got back to me the next day after I emailed for a price quote late at night. Because I was on a tight time frame, he arrived that very day, talked me through what he would do and trimmed and cleaned up right away. I like that he has a horticulture degree and understood my desire to preserve the look of the tree.

super nice guy and once he got started work was done promptly and under budget. The initial delay may have just been a failure to communicate. I plan to use TLC again.

The project consisted of two parts, a retaining wall and a paver patio. For the patio I would give John an A+ in quality and price. He was able to fit it tightly into the existing hardscape and cut a beautiful curve into it. It is graded properly with the slope so that drainage is not a problem. We love the patio. For the wall, it is a D-. There were issues getting it straight and level and in the end, he was never able to get it quite right but into the 3rd week of a job that was supposed to take 7 days, we were just ready for them to be done. His attention to detail was just not that good. The biggest issue is the grading, the dirt behind the retaining wall is up against the garage wall, above the foundation block. I was skeptical about this but deferred to his expertise as he did not think this would be an issue. It is in fact a HUGE issue because now when it rains heavy, I get water and mud INSIDE my garage. John came back out to try to fix it, he was not particularly enthusiastic but came out to avoid a unfavorable review. The lack of attention to detail was again evident in the attempted solution to pull the soil away from the garage. I am still getting water and mud in the garage and I no longer have confidence in his ability to resolve this problem. I will need to find a permanent solution, most likely I am going to need to regrade and probably put some sort of barrier between the garage and the dirt. This will likely come at a significant cost. Pictures show completed project and water in garage from July 2017 I do not like posting negative reviews and I had high hopes when hiring John, I like to use a small independent rather than a big company. Since I rely on reviews myself, I felt obligated to post this. Because of the issues with the wall and drainage, I would not recommend TLC.
Response from TLC-The Landscape Company
"This is [Member Name Removed]'s issue- I went out there and he said that his engineer friend said to put stainless steel against the wall. I told him this is his way and I would do this different. He wanted to do this his way which I did. I did it exactly his way and he was there the whole time and I showed him each step. In the future I will have a disclaimer issued but he assured me that we were in great standing. I did the stainless steel 7 months ago and his water issue is coming from the back of the garage which I did not do."

Very satisfied. The price was well worth the service, and the worker was dedicated. For the sod, the worker didn't appear to use herbicide 7 days before installing sod. Weeds are starting to come up, but this is minor so far. I appreciated the professionalism of both the owner and worker. The worker started quickly, and I appreciated the owner being able to meet my short timeline.

TLC is a small business run by one guy with part time labor. He doesn't mean to but He does get behind so you may have to chase him a bit. it took a while to get him to start each project, but once he did, he was very good to work with. He takes pride in workmanship and spends time mentoring his workers so they understand what they are doing and why. And he is also a problem solver. John Troeschel is very knowledgable about all things landscaping and hardscaping. I have more landscaping projects ahead and plan to use TLC.

Okay. Friendly, but showed up a month late and was too busy to get the job right. Fence repairs are not up to standard. Same with path - nice stones, but not installed correctly and grass not growing around them for the look I asked for. Half of planted bushes died and grass never grew where trees were felled because irrigation repairs were not completed, despite an extra charge to look at the irrigation system, grind a stump and plant grass. Drain repairs got water going in the right direction but did not level ground to prevent injuries. Did some hard work but did not meet expectations for almost $5k.

john and his helper dug trench in the wet area of the backyard and put in French drain to the front yard. Also added sod to the backyard. It's incredible how dry the yard is now.
They did cut a wire to our Invisible Fence but fixed it at no extra cost.
They did such a great job that we let our current landscaper go and hired TLC to cut our grass and preformed various landscape chores. They cut limbs off a river birch that was touching our roof and pergola, spread Grade A mulch, and trimmed hedges
we are very happy with John's crew. They even pick up and take away various piles of weddings and trimmings I do over the week. ?
