KOLBY CONSTRUCTION

Phil Kolby was very responsive, and was able to fit me into his schedule for the next day after we spoke. I had an interior door with hinges that were coming out of the frame. It appeared that there was no stud behind the frame to hold the hinges in place, so we feared that the entire frame would need to be taken apart and rebuilt. Phil was able to make the repair with special screws and careful placement without having to take the frame apart. The door is now secure on its hinges and works as it should. Although the price was a bit high for the work performed (about an hour), it was far less than the cost of tearing out the frame to make the repair - not to mention avoiding the mess.

I called him out twice for a couple of different estimates. The first time, everything went well. Second time I called him, he was in a rush, didn't seem like he was willing to do the work and the estimate seemed a little high so we hadn't proceeded with that. He left a little flyer with me and answered back with an email. Their estimate seemed higher than normal. He didn't really discuss a lot details. It's just how we would do it and what he would do. He's just asking what we were looking for.

He was great. He came out and got it done. He also took care of our gutters. He did a wonderful job. The thing about him that is really good is that he will call and tell you if he can't come. He will stay until the job is done properly. Sometimes he might say I was suppose to start on Monday but I have to finish up the other job. He will finish up the other job. It's hard to know he's been in the house. That's how clean and tidy he is and how he puts everything away. It's almost hard to tell if he's been there. You really have to look to know if he's been there. He does a fantastic job. He and his wife call us back immediately after we contact them. They are very responsive.

Phil was very professional from the start to finish. They cleaned up every single day, so other than the obvious repairs, or some neatly stacked equipment, you would not have known they were there. They did everything they said they were going to and did a good job of communicating with us. Let me say that even though the job cost more and took longer, it was because they did such a thorough job, they found things that had been overlooked during the inspection. The dormer windows had much more structural damage than initially suspected, so we had them repair them properly. Once they had fixed the identified wiring/electrical problems, we had them do some additional work while they were there. We had initially put down a deposit and had an ongoing tally of additional expenses (including things we added while they were here). When it came time to write them a check, Phil pointed out that he had overestimated a repair and that I needed to reduce the final amount. We fully intend to use them again, and highly recommend Kolby Construction again in the future.

They build stairs for us and also a deck that is on our way from our house to the backyard. They designed and built a stair landing going down from our screen porch to the yard below. They cut a hole in our screen porch to put a door way and we had to buy a door for that. We explained to him what we wanted and he fixed it for us. He made the whole process easy on us. They did a great job for the price that they charged. They were punctual and extremely reliable. I was very happy with their work. I would like to use them in future too.

I needed a general contractor to effect some repairs beyond a simple, quick paint job. The woodwork on my house had degraded in localized spots due to several causes. I learned of Kolby Construction from a recommendation by my neighbor for whom a room addition was done. I chose them because of the detail of their quote, their price for the level of the work to be done, and my inspection of their work on my neighbor's house. Phil Kolby listened when I described my goals of not only repairing existing defects but also of proofing my home against the elements to mitigate the need for future repairs. He responded by providing a level of care and attention to detail in his work that rivals any I have ever seen. I was particularly impressed with his surface preparation in repairing degraded wood and caulking seams and gaps. I followed closely behind and have yet to find any spot that was missed, however small. His work crew was professional, skilled, and courteous. They took great care to protect my property (roof, brick siding, plants, walkways) as they worked through. I am especially grateful that Phil actively sought areas in need of repair instead of simply painting over them, as some might have done. I feel confident that this will head-off more extensive and expensive repairs that would have been necessary soon but for Phil's efforts. I should also mention that Phil used super-premium construction materials, including a top-of-the-line paint, epoxy, and silicone caulk. I feel that these will add years to the life of the areas repaired.

It was excellent work completed in a fast manner. Top quality, no doubt. They workers were very polite as well.

Estimates were given for each project without cost and at our convenience. Phil Kolby and his employees were courteous and the quality of their work is impeccable. They arrived on time and cleaned up any construction debris immediately.

Had numerous plumbing issues within days of moving in (sink simply not connected to sewer, backed up sewer) and when we called the builder they told us it was the plumbers issue. The plumber said it was not their issue and we had to pay over $450 in fees to correct. General items, hardwood floor varnish started to peel up the day we moved in because the job was done poorly (builder did not take responsibility), re-surface of front walk they didn't move some weeds and surfaced around them, trim done with bad wood. Recently started construction on a sun room on the back and when the contractor pulled up the patio they found that the builder had not followed code and covered up an old corroded patio. This has lead to deterioration in our soil both under the patio and under our home footings. We are now in the process of paying thousands to correct our home footings. Overall the work is extremely low quality and we continue to uncover issues.
